Or the Gods and Monsters are the people in the world of Hollywood. The Gods are the celebrities that are worshiped just because they are famous and everyone thinks they're so amazing. The Monsters are the addictions, sins and all of the trouble that comes along with being in that world - "The garden of evil" She was an angel because she was innocent when she was first brought into that world. She was already addicted to alcohol, but wanted fame and love. Eventually she got into the world of the monsters and if she was addicted to things, her life with the Gods/Celebs would be over, but she still sings. She kept telling herself if God is dead, no one can take her soul away. When you're a celebrity, it takes your soul away in a sense because you have to grow up fast and your whole world changes and eventually you get into things that take the innocence away. |

In the land of Gods and Monsters I was an angel (WAS meaning she doesn't feel she is anymore because of addiction, and when I say she, I don't exactly mean Lana) Living in the garden of evil (Which is Earth, because there are so many evil things around us each day like drugs, alcohol and other sins.) Screwed up, scared, doing anything that I needed (You do anything you need to do for the things you are addicted to) Shining like a fiery beacon You got that medicine that I need Fame, liquor, love, give it to me slowly Put your hands on my waist do it softly Me and God, we don't get along, so now I sing (She could feel that she doesn't get along with God because she has become addicted to many things and isn't innocent anymore and could possibly blame God for that happening to her or she could have lost belief due to sins and the way the world she lives in is. She doesn't want to be addicted and sin, but it's too late.) I agree with jojo nunya. Its about her being in love with someone she can't have. She can't help that she's so in love with him. even if she knows that is wrong because he's in a relationship with someone else. "Too many times I have wondered what all trying is for" She doesn't know why she ever tries with him. She feels like giving up, cause she knows she can't ever really be with him cause he's with someone else. "And too many times, I have wanted to turn around and walk away. Knowing deep inside, you can't provide what I need from you anyway." She knows that she should walk away from this. and let go of him. but it doesn't change the way she feels. even if he can't give her everything she needs. "I tell you that i wanna go, but I wanna stay." She's only saying that she wants to go, but she's trying to let go of him, cause she knows that what she's doing is wrong. "I wanna stay, I wanna stay, I wanna stay, but i know I'm gonna lose myself this way." She's becoming a bad person because of the way she feels about this guy. but she can't help it cause he's all she's ever wanted. but getting involved with someone who's taken is not something that she would do. so she's losing herself because of him. The first time I heard this was on One Tree Hill and I've loved her ever since. That song fit the scene perfectly, when Jake was leaving Peyton. My version of what I think about the song was basically a longer version of what jojo nunya said haha oops. |

I don't quite know what this song means completely, but that part makes me feel like she's saying that people judge you and think you're a certain person cause of things you've done. Even if they don't know the real you. They automatically think you're this person cause they've heard things you've done in the past. but idk, I could be way off. I think this song is amazing though.
