I love the line, "Queen of a castle that's made of sand" -- makes me think about putting to much value on things that don't last and don't matter. |

| Mae – Giving It Away Lyrics
|
I don't know if this song is written about a girl or about God - it's often pretty hard to tell ... but I
really love how it fits my life and God so perfectly. "By the way ... clue" makes me think about how I believe
that God has a plan for people's lives, and about how He has brought me this far in my own life, and about
how I trust that He has more plans for me.
"I know that without you I'm giving it away" reminds me about my belief that God gives us our gifts and
talents and that we should use them to glorify Him. If we are using the talents and passions with which
we have been blessed for things other than serving God, it's as if we are just giving them away, and they
are not accomplishing what they should.
One of my favorite lines, though, is "The nights are forever and maybe I'm wrong, but it feels like I'm so lost without you." - It makes me think of how I am learning to be dependent on God for everything that I need, since without Him I
am truly lsot. What a beautiful song.

I think this song is just about recognizing how something or someone changed the singer's life dramatically, and just reflecting on that, and on how he is still growing and changing. Love it! |

I think this is a great song about changing and growing up and moving on. As someone who is about to graduate from college and move on to another chapter in my life, this song can always almost bring me to tears! My favorite part is definitely: "But then if you're so smart, tell me, why are you still so afraid?" -- I resonate with it a lot - kind of feeling sort of confident, and acting like I have my life and plans together, but really being scared of what is to come.
Another part that I really like that is maybe more open to interpretation than some other parts is:
"Slow down you're doing fine
You can't be everything you want to be
Before your time
Although it's so romantic on the borderline tonight"
I don't know what most of you think "the borderline" is - but I think that it's the turning point - a time in your life when something is changing - for example, the "borderline" between college and adulthood or something like that. So, "slow down ... before you time" is kind of about having big dreams and passions and hopes, but taking a step back from them, adn waiting for things to happen in their own time, and "Although .... borderline" is not Love-romantic, but more ... "romantic" in how Anne of Green Gables uses it ;) I think "Although ... borderline" is about not getting caught up in the turning point, and being realistic but positive about your future. At least to me, it is!
My final favorite part (ok, ok, I just like the whole song!) is "You got your passion you got your pride
But don't you know only fools are satisfied? Dream on, but don't imagine they'll all come true" It reminds me of a verse in Ecclesiastes in the Bible that says something to the effect of "with wisdom comes sorrow, with knowledge comes grief" -- the only way you can be truly happy is to be a fool -- which isn't something desireable - so, this part just kind of reminds me to be optimistic, but not ridiculous about it - be realistic.
*sigh* I love this song.

I'm not sure about the over all meaning of the song, but I just love some of the lines ... "I'm a mess, I gues,s It's what I've asked for, It's what I've needed" It makes me think of how, when you're kind of in a bad spot and trying to figure out your life, it's ok to be torn up and confused ... and I feel sort of the same about "It seems like yesterday we had the world our way But some say we're headed for destruction"

My favorite part is the chorus - "I'm not paralyzed, but I seem to be struck by you" -- I choose to think of it as kind of, "I'm not completely in love with you, not fully shut down or anything, but there's just something about you that catches my attention." .. of course, that's probably just becuase that's how I'm feeling about someone these days ;) |

My favorite lines in this song are definitely "write down, to remind yourself of how it can be" and "burning like Joan of Arc to see you, just to feel you" -- The first one, when there's something going on, good or bad, that I don't want to forget, I think of that line, and it's kind of like "write down what you think and feel, to remind future self of your former self." Or sometimes, I think of it as "to remind yourself of how it could be" - like, enjoy what you have and where you are in life - but don't forget how things *could* be - for better or worse, as it will give you a greater understanding of current situations. And the second is just so full of passion ... well, I actually just love that whole verse.
hah, the parts I like, and the reasons I like them for are pretty much unrelated to the song. Oh well. |

I really am not sure what it's about - but I love the phrase "kind of cursed and kind of blessed" ... just in my own life and experience, it makes me think about how things can be good and bad at the same time, and it's more about how you think about it ... love it - that one line is the whole reason I love this song. |

| Anberlin – Blame Me! Blame Me! Lyrics

I adore this song. The part that jumps out to me most is:
And we could ride all night To the pace of a blinking light
(About continuing life, going through the day-to-day motions and patterns)
Wishing traffic was faster
(wishing for change, but the change doesn't seem probable or accessible)
Keeping safe distance
(not rocking the boat)
But courting disaster
(knowing things are about to fall apart)
I think the song is about a relationship that's slowly falling apart, since the people aren't treating each other right. They are letting things go, when they should be addressed, and being victimized by, and victimizing the other person. The relationship is going to pieces, because it isn't being maintained.

I think, like most people said, that the song is mostly just about sexual temptation of some kind ... basically, the singer wants a specific woman to say yes to having sex with him - perhaps premarital, prehaps extramarital. But for me, personally, I tend to intentionally skew the meanings of songs to apply to my own life, and so, for that, I allow it to just mean that I'm looking for a certain guy to say yes to being with me, in general, ignoring the specific sex aspect. |

Bustinloose, I think you got it. The only confusion that I have is that the red preist seems to be the anti-Christ in the first verse, but then it seems to be someone different, someone of God in the second verse. Not sure how to take that. This is my least favorite of the "epic" tracks, musically, and my favorite lyrically. Disasters may come ... the end of the age ... you'll still belong.
Praise God that we are His. |

This song gives me such strength - when I try to do things by myself for too long, and I suddenly realize I should be seeking God's help, "I've always been strong but I can't make this happen" -- the I ask God to help me in the situation "I need to breathe You in" |

I think this song is about how God breaks us before he can make us like HIm. Like, we kind of become a Christian, and go on for a while, then realize that we can't quite get sorted things out on our own, so God has to kill the "Old Man" and then heal us, and make us new |

I'm not sure really, what this song meas, even thought I've tried to figure it out -- I think it's in 2 voices though. The chorus feels like a reply, you know? Like, someone is trying to help someone else, then person #2 is like "I don't really need this - when I feel numb, I'll let you know" |

August evenings bring solemn warnings
To remember to kiss the ones you love goodnight
You never know what temporal days may bring
So laugh, love, live free and sing
When life is in discord
Praise ye the Lord
That phrase is so wonderful ... last summer, before I went back to school, it was getting really hard to be away from my friends - I had made some serious deep friendships the spring before - the verse kind of reminded me to value the love that I had with those friends, and to put my hope in God as it was hard to be away from them. |

I think this is a great song. It gets a lot of negative attention - I read on a similar board one day "This song should be called, 'fat girls, you are disgusting!'" How disappointing. I even read that some people think Mika is supporting obesity. The fact is, not everyone is skinny, and "Beautiful," according to Western standards. Mika is just taking a break from all the crap that girls any bigger than 120,lbs get. Mika is great for loving on us big girls. Being healthy is important - but it has little or nothing to do with who we are on the inside. |

I read that Mika wrote this song about "the industry" and about music, and producers, and popularity, and how superficial, etc, it all is. But you can take it personally too. I spent a long time, recently, trying to be the person who someone else wanted me to be - This song is about having a quick sulk about wishing you could be who someone else wants you to be, then telling them to screw off, because you are who you are. |

I think, in this song - the singer has met, after several years, and old "lover." They've both moved on, they're both with other people, but he suddenly realizes that he's still in love with her. "We are who we were when" - I think he realizeds that they're the same people that they were, then, so things could still work out. The "at least you're still my day-late Friend" - the timing wasn't right, but he's still glad to have her friendship. I think the song ends with them having to go their own ways ... but I always tell myself they don't have to ;) |
