Rush – Cygnus X-1 Book I: The Voyage Lyrics 15 years ago
The slow-strumming guitar at the end with the subtle heart-beat in the background is an awesome sort of cliff-hanger ending. It sounds very suggestive that there is something on the other side of Cygnus X-1. Goddamn this band is talented.

Porcupine Tree – Fear of a Blank Planet Lyrics 15 years ago
The only thing that doesn't make Porcupine Tree one of the greatest bands of all time is their less-than-mediocre lyrics. There is almost no ambiguity, or any artistic creativeness. Other than that, they are phenomenal.

Tool – The Grudge Lyrics 16 years ago
I think Flamingstealthbanana has it right on. It's about how many people justify their faults to gain a false sense of security about themselves due to a self-inflated ego. These people can't recognize fault in their own wrong doings and always find a way to target something else. You will only dig yourelf a deeper hole the farther you go into self-indulgence, bearing the heavy burden of the Grudge. They must hold on to the Grudge to reassure themselves of control. Once we let go of the stone, our minds will be lightened and we will feel innocent, like a child. Understanding and compassion is the only way to communicate properly.
There is a lot of good symbolism in this song.
The stone and anchor is the personal weight of the Grudges we bear.
Saturn ascending and coming round is kind of like a karma effect. Our choices are reflected by planetary influences and Saturn is a negative one.
The crown makes us feel more superior, which is why we bear the Grudge in the first place. To not make ourselves inferior. And it is one of negative energy.

50 Cent – Candy Shop Lyrics 16 years ago
C'mon guys, this is a lyrics website. Let's all try to use this incredible, ambiguous, cryptic poetry to determine the meaning of... nevermind. Why is this fool's "music" even on here? This is nothing but a creative marketing strategy. Shouldn't you be giving your time, money, respect to real art?

Protest the Hero – Palms Read Lyrics 16 years ago
I think the first part could be introducing the theory of how we evolved from aquatic life. Like how only humans and aquatic animals are the only species that always have a layer of fat under their skin, have large oil secreting glands and can expell salt water (tears, large sweat glands). So sea life is the "missing link" between primates and hominids. We have evolved and shed our skin over a million years through natural selection towards a perfect species.
I think it is also commenting on how Religions completely ignore theories of evoloution.
The riverbed represents religious faith and how it it destroys just as many (probably more) lives through war than it is supposed to "save." And when the dust settles, they're all just hurled into their "indifferent graves" anyways and decomposed to give off our Nitrogen, Carbon, Oxygen to create a natural equilibrium.
Bottom Line:
We should read our palms (learn our history) and raise a glass to how we got here. To "celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing" if I can quote Tool's "Parabola." Not foolishly take our life for granted and fight over it.

The Smashing Pumpkins – That's the Way (My Love Is) Lyrics 17 years ago
Who else thinks this song is overrated? One of the worst on the album in my opinion.

Goddamn, this album sucks.

The Smashing Pumpkins – An Ode to No One (Fuck You) Lyrics 17 years ago
The title pretty much sums up its meaning. My favourite line is "Galaxies full of nobodies giving us the farewell run-arounds."

Radiohead – Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
Excellent cover, Pink Floyd's is still better by a landslide, though. If anyone wants to hear another great cover, listen to Tool's version of Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter". That's the best cover ever, in my opinion.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Bleeding the Orchid Lyrics 17 years ago
There are types of orchids that will take years to flower and cost thousands of dollars. I think it is Billy expressing how his fans only want him to play and write songs like he did in the 90s. His earlier music represents the orchid and Billy is bleeding and milking it ("Milk from the flower, blood from the dawn") for the fans but that music will never come back and he wants everyone to accept that and embrace his new music. It is a perfect theme for an album released after 7 years of inactivity.

Tool – Opiate Lyrics 17 years ago
"A blind preacher for the pin-eyed congregation" That line is from "Redneck" by Lamb Of God. I think it captures the meaning of this song.

Tool – No Quarter (Led Zeppelin cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
This is hands down the best cover i've ever heard but Led Zeppelin definately has the better version. They capture the erie, cold and dark feeling that the song is really about.

Lamb of God – Redneck Lyrics 17 years ago
It's definately about Bush. He's a laughing stock of his own stage (America) and a blind preacher for his pin-eyed congregation (meaning he is a lying leader of Americans who don't see anything that is actually taking place). And redneck is probably a nickname derived from the fact that that he is dumb and from Texas. (but aren't all Texans dumb...?)
Good song nonetheless and as for the elections this week, good riddance you piece of shit George Bush. You were the worst president since Nixon.

Lamb of God – Descending Lyrics 17 years ago
This song would fit for any addiction, not just alcoholism. About knowing you have an addiction and you are gradually descending while convinging yourself that you know the truth and that you are above your addiction when it's only getting worse.

"Addiction forms a kind of mental slavery which alleviates the user's guilt" - (Hunter S. Thompson)

Lamb of God – Walk with Me in Hell Lyrics 17 years ago
This song can be summed up in just a couple of its lines:

1) "Pray for deliverance. Some kind of purpose, a glimpse of a light in this void of existence."
2) "Take hold of my hand. For you are no longer alone, walk with me in hell."

It's about people trying to find a purpose to their existence and turning to religion for "answers" and, subconciously, comfort. When the reality is that no one can know forsure what our purpose is or happens when we die. They can take the comforting hand of religion to help them get through this hell we are all living in.

The beginning sounds like something from the Smashing Pumpkins.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Mayonaise Lyrics 17 years ago
This song, to me, shows connection with The Catcher in the Rye.

"Fool enough to almost be it." - Holden was almost fool enough to be part of the phony adult world which he hates so much.
"Cool enough to not quite see it, doomed." - He tried to escape it but he finally realizes the inevitability of adulthood.
"Run away with me tomorrow." - Holden expresses desire to escape his life and run away out west or to a monestary.
"I'm rumored to the straight and narrow
While the harlots of my perils scream." - Holden is supposed to grow up normally (rumored to the straight and narrow) and live a phony life, while the causes of his mental breakdown disagree. (harlots of my perils, scream)
"Mother, weep the years I'm missing
All our time can't be given back" - Holden wants people (mother) to feel sympathy (weep) to him and his cause. (the years im missing from my adolesence.)
"Shut my mouth and strike the demons" - Holden wants to stop complaining and have enough balls to commit suicide.
"Cursed you and your reasons." - Holden has proved his cause of possible suicide.
"Out of love and out of feeling so bad" - Holden can't find human companionship (love) so he wants to commit suicide (out of feeling so bad)
"No more promise no more sorrow
No longer will I follow" -Holden accepts, now that he cannot follow (no longer will I follow) his dream of saving the innocent from the phony adult world and he will not feel bad. (no more sorrow)
"I just want to be me" - Holden wants to be himself and not become phony in order to be accepted in this world.
"When I can" - but he also accepts that it is inevitable to not grow up and he will try to express individuality and freedom whenever he can.

Just my thoughts. Great novel, by the way.
