| Porcupine Tree – The Nostalgia Factory Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I have On the sunday of life on vinyl, and the lyrics are there. They're just buried extremely deep in the mix. If you listen to the mp3, during the quiter parts in the middle solo, you'll vaguely hear some fragments. Too bad they threw them away like that, because I think it's more beautiful imagery that a This Long Silence or a Nine Cats. Alan Duffy was a high school friend of Steven who went on to become the manager or boss for the record company wich released the first PT-Albums. The 'lyrics' were some poetry he had written in high school and gave to Steven to use. Really like the old-skool name. Has a somewhat melancholic sound to it. |

| Simon and Garfunkel – Scarborough Fair/Canticle Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Just to state the facts: Scarborough fair is a traditional folk song, has been around for centurys. The meaning of this song of course varies per person or country. Art Garfunkel was the man who put Canticle in. He reworked Paul's song A side of the hill (a general war song) and sang the Canticle part. Paul Simon sang Scarborough fair. The reason they sound so woven into each other is because Art sings along with Scarborough fair when it isn't Canticle's turn yet. For example: 'Tell her to find me, on a side of the hill...' etc. Personally, this song is bloody epic although it's meaning/symbolism is still shrouded in mystery to me... |
| Porcupine Tree – What Happens Now? Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Not such a fan of the lyrics any more, but the music... The fact that Steven left you with the image of his 'ashes falling through the cloudburst' gives the counterpoint a nice transition. |
| Porcupine Tree – Sleep Together Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Acting on impulses without considering the consequences. I'm not such a fan of the lyrics, but the last sentecence from the chorus, and the orchestra, are magical. 'Let's sleep forever', one of the most poetic ways to describe death. |
| Porcupine Tree – A Smart Kid Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The meaning is pretty simple. The live version from Atlanta has captured me. It's so fragile and beautiful. The best part is achtually that it isn't about a post-apocalyptic world. It's about love. The narrator will love a person till the end of time. |
| Porcupine Tree – Burning Sky Lyrics | 14 years ago |
That is epic. But I've always associated it with the Apocalyps: 'Burning sky': Fire in het sky from building that burn down, the whole world being on fire. Which, to me, makes the ticking clock say: It's just a matter of time before it happens. I like the Spiral Circus-version better because the guitars are louder and the atmosphere is way intenser. |
| Spinvis – Was Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Is iemand de vergelijking met Poupee de Cice, Poupee de son van France Gail opgevallen? Afgezien daarvan, niet slecht. |
| Tears for Fears – The Marauders Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Lovely instrumental. An improvisation by Ian on his new keyboard. (I believe it was the Roland V-Synth) Very simple and the moving kick on a bassdrum keeps it interesting. The paradox-like title makes it complete. Again, TFF shows how to do much with little. |
| Pendulum – The Fountain Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Mindblowing. Never thought Steven would work with a band like Pendulum and they would make it sound so f-ing good. I'm stunned everytime I hear it. Makes me, partly because of Steven's participation, think of Fear of a blank planet. The whole aleination-theme. Steven, putting feeling in his lyrics ('Everything you've given me is not enough' is a superb example), makes this track so more brilliant. |
| Simple Minds – Today I Died Again Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Magnificent track with some indian sounds inbetween. Came across this when I found out that this was the Simple Minds songs from which the drumintro was taken by Tears For Fears to create Empire Building. A comment on the social situation back then, I guess. The singer 'dies' everyday from the things he sees around him. He can't stand/take it. |
| Simon and Garfunkel – Scarborough Fair/Canticle Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This gives me cold shivers every time. The way these songs are waved into each other is beyond normality. The way Garfunkel's and Simon's vocal fade into each other, and sound alike, is one of the things that makes it so powerfull. Not to mention the contradiction in lyrics. Yet, I still don't know what they want to say. Although some of the most genious songs ever tend to have that effect on me. |
| Simon and Garfunkel – 7 O'Clock News/Silent Night Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I can't explain what this song does to me... A song about how peacefull and calm the world is against the vile acts of Richard Speck... Damn. A masterpiece. |
| Paul Van Dyk – Time Of Our Lives (Feat. Vega 4) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Beautiful song, nearly made me cry. First the contradictions in the verses only to have them erased all with the final line. So powerfull. Those contradictions, to me, is to show that there is a time for everything. Although that there is war, ther will be peace someday, etcetera... |
| Fleetwood Mac – Oh Well (Part 1) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
A cheap, sleazy rock record (in the good way) that trademarks the era. Awesome. |
| Fleetwood Mac – Oh Well (Part 2) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Why hasn't anybody commented on this piece of musical poetry yet? John McVie's bass is one of the most intense I ever heard and the whole midieval piece is so enchanting... This proves Peter Greens diversity and creativity. A masterpiece. |
| Tears for Fears – The Prisoner Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Those lyrics are the ones found on the jacket, yet the eventual lyrics became the first verse repeated twice. Not only in music different from the rest of The Hurting, Curt also deliveres his most angry vocal ever. |
| Tears for Fears – Don't Drink The Water Lyrics | 15 years ago |
A song that advises to chill out. A very hippie-feel, wich makes me totally chill out whenever I hear it. |
| Tears for Fears – Head Over Heels Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| An unanswerd love that he decides to go after with all his hope (four leaf clover) after being closed for a while (With one foot in the past now just how long will it last?) | |
| Tears for Fears – The Hurting Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Their only true duet from the 80's Great album opening |
| Tears for Fears – The Big Chair Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is partially where TFF got their inspiration for the title 'Songs from the big chair'. Nice to see that they put in a little montage of the series that bore the album's namesake. Like Empire building an attempt at The Art of Noise. |
| Tears for Fears – Who Killed Tangerine? Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Brilliant song. I noticed the obvious Beatle-feel over the whole album (yes, I'm a fan of those guys too) and this is pretty much their equvalent of Hey Jude with the endless chanting. Too bad they made it so short... |
| Tears for Fears – Listen Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is an emotional trip to me, and the lyrics bear Rolands trademark: Saying a lot with so little words. Critics cite Two Tribes (Frankie goes to Hollywood) as one of the best anti-cold war songs, but this is way intenser and breathtaking. |
| Tears for Fears – Ideas As Opiates Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Sometimes you will tell yourself that everything is allright. It's all about the ego. One of their best from the Hurting |
| Tears for Fears – I Believe Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Being one of the biggest TFF-fans in our country, I often look differently to their lyrics. I think that in this case he is afraid for answers or the consequences of these answers. That why he believes. He beliefs that everything will work out eventually. TFF's first viewpoint can be found in 'Ideas as opiates' |
| Porcupine Tree – Glass Arm Shattering Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Nice ambience set in this song, the only thing that annoys me is the fact that Steven's vocals are processed in such a way that it kills the whole feel of the lyrics/song. The lala-break kinda reminds me of the coda from 'Hey jude' and the break in 'a day in the life' |
| Porcupine Tree – The Sky Moves Sideways (Phase One) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
What it means is totally up to you, whatever you hear/see in these lyrics, as is the case with almost every PT-song. To me, it's about tantrums: We lost the skyline (You lost sight of right and wrong) We stepped right off the map (You step out of your calm self) Drifted in to blank space (Many people say the world turns white in their anger) And let the clocks relapse (Everything goes extremely fast) And the best chorus EVER written, to me of course: Sometimes I feel like a fist (The anger) Sometimes I am the colour of air (Being one with your anger) Sometimes it's only afterwards I find that I'm not there (Realizing that your calm self was gone) But hey, make of it what you want. |
| The Chemical Brothers – Let Forever Be Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Amen. That drum beat says it all | |
| Porcupine Tree – The Sky Moves Sideways (Alternate Version) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Love Steven's vocals on this one: He directly takes me into those lyrics. But I think that 'raking' is 'making' as you hear the M clearly, and 'thunder' should be 'sunder', as he impossibly sings 'thunder'. But, that's just my hunble opinion. |
| Simply Red – Fake Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Beautiful song about everlasting love. Just singing along with the chorus makes me feel good. |
| The Beatles – Here Comes the Sun Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's about enlightment, after a dark period in life: 'Here comes the sun', and: 'it's all right.' Love the Love-version (But then again, wich song from that album isn't a lovely reworking?) with the random 'Inner light', festive ending |
| The Beatles – Because Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Just a simple song about how things that don't seem connected, are beautifully connected through a lovely pun: Because the sky is blue it makes me cry. This song is pure poetry and shows the genius of John Lennon. Love the a capella-version that can be found on Athology |
| U2 – City of Blinding Lights Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Love the theme, that simple guitar cry. Maybe U2's best song ever, (It should be noted that I'm not a real fan) I am still suprised with the whole 'Time won't let me as I am'-section, but hey... Love the closing lyrics: 'Blessings are not just for the ones who kneel', cold shivers, and then that final word that I commonly mishear as 'Look away', wich gives me even more cold shivers than 'Luckily', as the song is about looking at a city. |
| Dire Straits – Telegraph Road Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Best rock song ever. Period. The lyrics combined with the instrumental backing, wich really reflects the lyrics, needs no explanation. It's just a story that's being told. Just shut up and enjoy is my advice. The emotion that Knopfler puts in his singing is also mindblowing. But...the finale that takes one last look 'all the way down the telegraph road' is geniousty itself: Love the reprising of the main theme, wich occurs 3 times... Just: Wow |
| Porcupine Tree – Nine Cats Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I don't know what it means, I guess it's either very symbolic or a lil' bit the Lucy in the sky from PT, but this song has enchanted me. I can listen to this a thousand times and nearly cry over the last two lines, every single time. I didn't know what all this meant I didn't know why I'd been sent. It connects me to the whole song. |
| David Bowie – This Is Not America Lyrics | 16 years ago |
To me it's the theme of alienation, that Bowie feels his 'normal' envoirment changing for the negative. As he doesn't have a 'faint idea' how these changes came along (or are in progress) he feels that he no longer is in a place he knows. just the title says it all: 'This is not America' This is not the country I grew up in. Not how I know it. |
| Metallica – Orion Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Awesome song which makes me wanna headbang everytime every time I hear it. Just a great piece of work which showcases the genius of Cliff Burton |
| John Lennon – Working Class Hero Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Basically a song to tell to the people how the goverment, or a power which is run by the goverment, forms you into becoming a role model and make a diffence and how impossible it is to become that way. The lines: There's room at the top they are telling you still But first you must learn how to smile as you kill If you want to be like the folks on the hill still give me cold shivers, 'cause it's still accurate. These thing are still happening. Incredible how Lennon made these visionairy lyrics. |
| Green Day – Working Class Hero (John Lennon cover) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I know the original is from the dear John Lennon, yet Green Day give it a nearly angry twist that the song deserves. | |
| Porcupine Tree – This Long Silence Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Awesome song, yet the references are what make the song epic, to name a few: A systematic killer Returning from Madrid (The disease that killed Mozart spreads across the world) A Purple Haze crawled on the lawn (Jimi Hendrikx) Swinging from a length of rope Ruth Ellis blew a kiss (The last woman to be hanged to death in England) Merlin spoke to Norma Jean (Marylin Monroe) As Sergeant Pepper led the band Playing through the rain (Rain-song by the betales as well as Sergeant's pepper lonely hearts club band) Sorry if I pointed out some obvious points, but it's just so insane |
| Porcupine Tree – Voyage 34 (Phase I) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Thanx jenovia21, I always wondered where it was taken from. Not directly reconisable as PT, yet a nice experimental piece in wich the main person, this Brian, dies because he couldn't terminate the trip. |
| Porcupine Tree – How Is Your Life Today? Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The person singing is dead, possibly killed by a person who got away after, 'While the taxi was waiting like a getaway car' and is still waiting to be found. Now this corpse wonders how the killer is doing to today. Is this person happy, relieved? How is his life now that the person singing is dead? |
| Porcupine Tree – Arriving Somewhere But Not Here Lyrics | 17 years ago |
To me, it's about someone who died, and it's spirit is still wandering for a place to go: Arriving somewhere but not here basically means: You're passing through a place, yet, you don't stay (arrive) there. This spirit looks back on his life and concludes what the lyrics say. 'All my designs, simplified (Everything you think out won't be done exactly as you thought it out) And all of my plans, comprimised (You make compromises to excute plans) And all of my dreams, sacrificed' (Not all your will come true.) |
| Porcupine Tree – Dark Matter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Amazing song with an awesome outro on guitar and drums. Gun down a school or blow up a car The media circus will make you a star So true, one of just a few lines that showcase the brilliant songwriting of Steven Wilson. |
| Tears for Fears – Listen Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The word 'listen' is being whisperd on the verge of the transition from the quiet to the bombastic, around 3.40, after the tape loops. And that's Curt calm, beautiful voice singing. The whole song is epic, I dream away every single time. The lyrics are also perfect, yet very symbolic. (Think about war, which was a hot topic back then) In this way, the song symbolises a revolution to me. |
| Beatallica – I Want to Choke Your Band Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Genious, yet hilarious reworking a Beatle's classic. Everytime I play it I just yell the chorus along |
| Tears for Fears – Start Of The Breakdown Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Roland's father struggled multiple breakdowns in his life, yet one made him semi-bedridden. This really got to Roland and thus this song was made. I love the end, when Roland screams 'I can't understand you' before the outro. |
| Tears for Fears – Advice For The Young At Heart Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Again, one of those lovely feel-good songs of Roland and Curt. I recently found out that the lyrics: 'Love is a promise, Love is a souvenir. Once given, never forgotten, never let it disappear.' Is actually a quote from John Lennon. Also nice reference to 'The working hour', the best song ever, from Songs from... |
| Tears for Fears – Always In The Past Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I absolutely adore this song, but then again, I adore anything from Tears For Fears, because of the amazing, somewhat sad, lyrics and the lovely rhythem of the song. It just makes me wanna dance with a big smile. |
| Girls Aloud – Life got Cold Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song has a special place in my heart. It still gives me goosebumps and the lyrics still have a great impact on me. I'm not a Girls Aloud-fan, but this their best song, without a doubt. |
| The Beatles – Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
There are no drug references in this song, just allusions to it. John lifted the lyrics, as is well known, from a 19th century poster. This song is the poster in song. |
