What I have come up with is this song is about a guy who is deciding whether or not he likes this girl hence What is it Is this it This is it He obviously has hung out with this girl a few times maybe through a friend and does not know much about this girl just that he is starting to like her. | This is my own interpretation, but what I think is that Taupin if this is fact written about him although it could be about John is about moving on with life. If this was written about John then it could be the transition of John's career. Elton was huge in the 70's and 80's and is now just a man that is considered one of the greatest singers of all time. He is no longer living the fast life that he once was. This could also be in reference to his cocaine addiction meaning he no longer does it. If it is in fact about Taupin himself it could be about the fact his career slowed down since him an John are not writing as much as they were. There might be deeper meaning to this but this is all I can come up with. | |

| Well it is a pretty simple meaning. Robert Ford killed Jesse James and history has viewed Ford as a coward since he did shoot James with his back to him. Elton feels like a bullet in the gun of Robert Ford because he breaks up with this girls and he feels guilty for it or like he betryaed his spouse. Ford was James's partner and felt this same guilt that Elton feels for breaking up. He is so ashamed and distraught from it that he actually wants to get back together or in Fords case go back in time. | |

| Piano Man has such a simple meaning/story but yet seems to be misinterprated by so many people. Piano Man is indeed about a bar piano player and what he sees at the bar he works at. He seems to have a good repour with all the customers they all seem to like and respect him. The first clue that tells you what the song is about is when he talks to the old man sitting next to him. The man is making love to his tonic and gin he is presumably drunk and rambling on about his life. John at the bar is a bartender that seems to be stuck and wants to apparently be a movie star. The waitress is praticing politics while the buisness man slowly gets more and more drunk. Everyone at the bar has a problem and while they are there the Piano Man makes them "forget about life for a while." He does this for these people and the customers think he is such a good piano player. The Piano Man knows that he is a respectable player but is no different from anyother bar piano player. It's just that these people have problems for one and are drunk for two. He is so great because of these people needing an outlet he knows this and accepts this. I love this song and am also a bar piano player. Playing at a bar one night I began to play this song when it all hit me what it was about. I had never really thought about it in that much depth before but as I played it all unfolded infront of me. The really amazing thing about the song is that anyone who has worked in a bar/restaurant can relate to the people in the story, and even if you have never worked in this enviornment the song paints the picture so beautifully that you can see exactly what the Piano Man feels and sees. | |

I can't believe I'm the first to comment. Well the song seems to be what the movie revolves around, which is forgiveness and redemption. These streets are old They shine with the things I've known And breaks through the trees Their sparkling Your world Is nothing more Than all The tiny things You've left behind This is refering to the fact that everything changes in life accept for what you do not allow to change the Gran Torino his house these never change he is a prisoner to the Gran Torino and his way of life. He cherishes the car and it is the only thing that he has that gives him joy. Despite the atrocities of war and the things he confesses the Gran Torino is what keeps him sane almost and happy. When he confesses he no longer needs the car or anything he is at peace and he knows even if he is gone what he had done or had "the Gran Torino" will live on and be his legacy, a good memory or an accomplishment. |
