| Matthew Good Band – A Boy And His Machine Gun Lyrics | 10 years ago |

Even if it seems pretty obvious now giving what Matt said himself about the song, another meaning just hit me today while listening to it. It could be about our old parents and grandparents "parked" in hospice. With children barely visiting them... Just analyse the lyrics: Don't move, stay right where you are ...the old person just doesn't want the visitor to leave. talking can only give you away and there's so nothing to say ...the fear, after some long silence, of hearing "Ok, gotta go now mom! See ya in 6 months..." the voices say hello imprisoned, they're invisible ...They may hear other visitors arriving in some other room but never see the persons. but we look a lot alike ...all the elerdly, in the end, are alone this is boring, all we talk about is you come on give me a reason ...may be about the visitor talking about his job and all, or the old person talking about his loneliness a boy and his machine gun ...this part of the song is the most important... the "boy" hi the child of the old person, and the machine gun is the days passing by without visiting. You can, in fact, slowly kill a person, letting days simply pass by without visiting or calling, just like bullets. when you're finished struggling are you free tonight? ...The biggest excuse for not visiting "I'm too busy"... but when you will finally stop struggling, will you visit your parents? did they stick you in here cause you weren't working right? ..."not working right" = too old, not good anymore. don't move stay just like you are you look sane motionless like that so very flat ...old person lying on his bed all day it's amazingn what velocity can do when human beings are in season a boy and his machine gun ...same meaning of a child having the control of a "gun": all those days without calling or visiting. if you're quiet we might see some ...when parents are visiting the grandparents with their kids "please, be quiet and stay put" when you're finished stuggling are you free tonight? ...explained above did they stick you in here cause you weren't working right? ...explained already there's a TV in every room and it's free even pay-per-view ...TVs in hospice rooms. which you'll need if no one's going to visit you ...still pretty obvious meaning in itself Animal f---g animal ...not sure who is the worst: the old person left alone parked in an hospice or the kids never visiting... I know who you're waiting for no one's coming though ...powerful line when you think the meaning CAN be about the elderly so fuck you and your principles and fuck whatever made me perhaps you think i'm evil what does it matter if we're crazy ...not sure if it's the old or the young talking here. My two cents. This new meaning hit me like a train this morning. |

| The Courteeners – Take Over The World Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| To me, it's more like the story of a paperboy, falling in love with a virtual girl he saw on a glossy magasine. A love story he created to escape the dullness of the North West. | |

Yeah maybe, but I love to think lyrics are sometimes more than only the first level. I personnaly can't listen to that song without thinking it's about lady Death talking to a suicidal young man. The song has more impact that way to me. |

| Read carefully again. This is about suicide - the older woman is Death trying to convince a young man to stop living on the edge. | |
