When I first heard this song, I thought to myself "sounds like KMFDM .... but I am not used to a woman singing, so is it really them?" Long story short, I am really glad they had a woman sing, it breathes a breath of fresh air in the song. |

| I love the "sadomasochism" bit. It is possible, but not likely. Sadomasochists do what they do for the attention. Not necessarily "positive" attention, but attention. This song is not about getting attention. | |

| The song is about the shitstorm going on in the Middle East. More specifically, it is a pointed criticism of how America and the West have not changed their exploitative mentalities from the Imperial Era. | |

"You break my back You won't break me All is black But I still see Shut me down Knock me to the floor Shoot me up Fuck me like a whore" This is an artistic rendition of what it is like to be completely opressed. It simply serves as a mood setter, leading into the situation which the audience must grasp to understand the position of the narrative. "Trapped under ice Comfortably cold I've gone as low as you can go Feel no remorse No sense of shame Time's gonna wash away all pain" Similarly to Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb, this stanza is simply saying that we, as a society, have been so alienated and degenerated that we have become complacent and no longer question our roles. "I made a god out of blood Not superiority I killed the king of deceit Wake me up in anarchy" This stanza draws its meaning from the historical fact that Jesus of Nazareth was NOT the god, nor any central figure, of Christianity until AFTER the Council at Nicea (which occured several hundred years AFTER the "death of the savior.") To better understand this, consider the latter stanza. "Gospel of rage Faction of hate Deviate from the absolute Born of revenge Raised on cement Chaos created government" The Council at Nicea was created by Emperor Constantine to consolidate the power of the clergymen of the various Christian SECTS. At that time, there was no UNIFIED church. The Roman Emperor, alluded to in this song as the King of Deceit, created the above mentioned council to distribute the power among the clergymen in such a way that neither could single-handedly threaten Ceasar. Further, the Council at Nicea called for heavy censorship and prerequiste approval of all religious doctrine by the Roman government. After the collapse of the Roman Empire, Christianity, spearheaded by the Vatican, sought to gain the global power and influence which previously only Ceasar enjoyed. Thus, as in the song, Christianity was created out of vengeance / revenge, and a thirst for power, which naturally lead to bloodshed, and anarchy. The Dark Ages occured after the collapse of the Roman Empire, and after the Great Schism during Pope Gregory's time. I am aware that this post is a loose confederation of historical fact; that is generally all one can hope for on a bulletin board. |
