First, I can't stand how Rhianna sounds. She has such a whiny voice. Furthermore, I don't feel like she really adds anything worthwhile to the song; however, I do appreciate the fact Jay-Z didn't limit the song to men only. Second, Kanye shouldn't have dropped out of college. He's an arrogant buffoon who needs to grow up. Third, Jay-Z's sound has really matured a lot in the last decade. I'm glad to hear a song like this, and I'm glad to hear that he's drawing from more eclectic sources for inspiration. His use of allusion is also much appreciated. Still, he's just singing about being rich and famous in the rap scene. But, it's better than "Big Pimpin". |

| I think that her metaphor, i.e. gravity, is well used here. Her word play is also well done, especially when she sings, "I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity". The idea of falling has multiple connotations (weakness, love, being suppressed, coming back to reality) that give depth to the song. And, lastly, the fact that it's not directly about love makes it far more palattable than most pop songs. All of this shows a sense of maturity for someone so young. Bravo. | |

The line "she's singing 'Hey la, my boyfriend's back'" actually is a 60's song made popular by the Angels. For those who are not very familiar with the story of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo was part of a street gang, sorta. He wasn't afraid to get into a swordfight here or there...a trouble maker/heir to the Montague throne. At first, he was a ruffian, but eventually Juliet's love makes him a softy. In the play, Romeo dispenses of Tybalt after he kills Mercutio, one of Romeo's right hand men. The song "My Boyfriend's Back" is about a woman singing to those who were trash talking her while her boyfriend was away. Now that he's back, he's gonna take care of business, capisce?
