Elton John – I Want Love Lyrics 15 years ago
Beautiful song....so raw, and as always with Elton, it's all in the delivery. He really makes you believe it.
To the people who think this song is about being gay: grow up. We all know Elton's gay, if your only point in
commenting is to find a way to bring that up, find a more constructive hobby. The theme is so universal, it
transcends all that, anyway. I agree Boccalatti whole heartedly- I think it's about someone who is obviously
at heart very sensitive- and has been through the trenches, emotionally. This has left them- both scarred
and emotionally closed off, but also yearning-deeply- for something more real and lasting. He's a realist
in that he knows perfect love doesnt exist, and he knows how badly he's been hurt and the flaws that's left him
with. But at the same time- he can't completely give up the fight- and he's ready for something honest,
imperfect, flawed, devstatingly painful, if need be. And he's quite a paradox- both jaded and hardened,
but still searching, still believing it's out there.

Elton John – Someone Saved My Life Tonight Lyrics 15 years ago
Such a cool song....dark and lovely at the same time. The definance and relief in his voice when he sings
"Im sleeping with myself tonight"......ahhhh. Of course,
the story of Elton's near marriage and suicide attempt is both fascinating and well documented, but I like
how the song can sort of apply to anyone breaking out of a destructive relationship- or a bad phase of thier
life- or what have you. The bitterness of what you have allowed yourself to become enmeshed in, and also
the hope of finding your center again (Thank god my musics still alive....you're a butterfly, etc.) Thank
God Elton's music is still alive.

Elton John – I'm Still Standing Lyrics 15 years ago
Ooohh...love this song. He really thunders it out....the combination of his energy and the upbeat back ground
music is totally uplifting....what we all need after a life set back or romantic hurt. Sir Elton is such a
treasure. I agree Boaal, I also like the kind of scrappy underdog feel of the song...yes, I've made mistakes,
and some people probably never expected me to prevail, but I'm still strong, and I'm still fighting-
what doesnt kill you makes you stronger. My fave line- "If our love was just a circus, you'd be a clown
by now". Dont we all have someone in our past- who made us cry like a baby at one point- that we'd love
to snarl that in the face of? Also like how somehow- even with the cutdowns administered liberally to
the subject of the song- it manages not sound totally bitter. It's triumphant, he's done all the
mourning he can behind this persons garbage- and now he can not only take on world again, but
see what this person is really all about.

Chris Isaak – Wicked Game Lyrics 15 years ago
I've always found this song very haunting. There's something so searing about the opening moments-musically-
and his voice is such a lovely combination of sensuality and vulnerability. Although there is definately
a steamy quality to the song, I don't interpret it as describing an exclusively physical longing- I think it
describes well the struggle to not make yourself vulnerable to a person or situation that logically you know,
for whatever reason, will ultimately lead to hurt, no matter how alluring it seems at the time, while already
having emotionally landed in a place where you can't really back out without accruing some sort of damage.
It is a horrible, exhilarating place to be...you want to tell the person to go away, only to avoid the hurt, but
you can't, and you already know-somehow- you will regret it in the end. Theres something interesting about the
way the lyrics play with time frame- the chorus sounds very urgent, very "in the now"-in terms of his emotional
state, although the rest of the lyrics seem to be reflecting back on something in the past, kind of adds to the
overall theme of conflicting emotions, and the emotional tension they cause. The "nobody loves noone" or whatever
to that effect he says at the end is just the saddest- in the end, even the most vivid, urgent love can end up
feeling so hollow, so wrung dry of all it's mystery, compassion, and sexuality- and make you wonder if it's
ultimately just about what feels gratifying at the moment, reguardless of long term damage. So raw and sad.

Fleetwood Mac – Go Your Own Way Lyrics 15 years ago
Oh, god...this song is the best. Lindsey Buckingham is completely underrated....his vocal delivery on this song is as good as it gets. I guess the meaning is fairly self explanatory- the break down of a relationship (stevie plus lindsey= one of the great musical soap operas, forever recorded on these great tracks. I agree they play it up for drama now-and probably did then, too- but what great music).

I've always thought this song was a little underrated in his body of work....it's very simple and bittersweet.

James Taylor – Carolina In My Mind Lyrics 15 years ago
So gorgeous...very simple and sweet, but with a haunting sort of undertone. I always liked the "geese in flight and dogs that bite" part....great imagery. The song is comforting and a little sad at the same time.

Jackson Browne – The Fuse Lyrics 15 years ago
So beautifully written- to me, it's always been about keeping some part of yourself protected and untainted even during the difficult and draining times, that life and circumstance can pull you in unexpected and sometimes even harmful directions, but that there is goodness and strength that remains, longing to be reclaimed.

Jackson Browne – I'm Alive Lyrics 15 years ago
"I was dreaming of you/with my heart in your hands"- gives me chills. This is a great song- the heartbreak is genuine-yet it's really about trying to find yourself and your own idenity again after the demise of a relationship-and holding on to the knowledge that there are still good things ahead while not really being over the heartbreak. Maybe also that when we are thrown great hurts and dissapointments-we have a choice to move on-even when even the simplest things like driving down the highway can evoke hurtful memories.

Take That – Back For Good Lyrics 15 years ago
Oooh.... I loved this song in the 90's....so sweet and feel good, poppy in a good way. I always liked the imagery of "in the twist of seperation, you excelled at being free".

Oasis – Wonderwall Lyrics 15 years ago
Not sure why so much commentary is about Oasis Vs. The Beatles...anyway, one of the things that first struck me way back in 95 when I heard this song for the very first time was that it had a certain "Beatles-esque" quality to it...not mimicky, but evocative. And in a good way. It's one of those great, great songs where the lyrics are so vague, they could apply to just about situation, but there's something about it where even if you don't know exactly what it means, it hits you on some gut level. I've always kind of thought it was breaking up but still loving someone, and trying to figure out what happens next. At any rate, it's a really beautiful song and makes me nostaligic for those late 90's (and not many things do).

Lionel Richie – Hello Lyrics 15 years ago
Very haunting and evocative.....with a bittersweet kind of quality. The lyrics are pretty straightfoward..and the song is cool because in one way it's very simple but also kind of dreamy and mysterious. And no question his best.

Air Supply – Making Love Out Of Nothing At All Lyrics 15 years ago
I've always been perplexed by the title of this song, but now the way I hear it is sort of along the lines of that the person he's singing to is unable or unwilling to commit further, so what they have is "nothing at all" compared to what it could be. He doesn't understand why they're willing to compromise themselves or their happiness like that, whereas he's willing to put it on the line. And he can do all kinds fancy maneuvers in the relationship with aplomb, but in the end, he can't force them to take the risk if they don't want to or don't believe they deserve it. I don't know...I could be way off. I used to think he was saying he could go through the motions of a relationship like a pro, but in the end, he couldn't force himself to fall in love, but now I don't think so. Anyway, whatever it means, the lyrics are really cool and Jim Steinman sure can write and produce the hell out of a love ballad. Also, sort of a different sound for Air Supply, but it works. The song was originally written for Meat Loaf, who would have been powerhouse, but theres something really haunting about the Air Supply vocals that just makes the song.

Richard Marx – Hold On To The Nights Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this is one of those songs that has more substance to it than you realize at first. I'd heard as background noise on the radio for years before really listening to it, and I agree that "haunting" is a good way to describe it. The lyrics are so simple and concise, yet create such a vivid mood of yearning that it's almost painful to listen to, and his vocals are pitch perfect- pure and un-showy.
