| Ween – Captain Lyrics

The song is about feeling like you're not in control of your life and simultaneously not liking the direction it's going in. Instead of being in charge, he is simply a passenger -- imploring the "Captain" to turn around and take him home.
Very sad; comes from his despair upon realizing that he is headed for ruin (because of his own actions) and there is nothing he can do to save himself except hope and plead. |

It's just about anger: the immediate anger that strikes you after a break up -- you want to go out and just fuck shit up, kick somebody's ass. |

| Ween – Happy Colored Marbles Lyrics

You're not all wrong; you're all right.
It makes sense that Gener would say that Quebec is their darkest album, because it is. Unlike their previous work, it isn't about juvenility, satire, musical style, or getting high on Scotchguard; it's about despair -- the despair of drug addiction, lost love, loneliness, and the harshness of reality.
The lyrics of the album chronicle Gene's struggle with chronic drug abuse and the strain of constant touring -- two elements which eventually caused his wife to leave him (the incident that "I Don't Want It" alludes to). Firmly in the clutches of drug addiction and destitute after losing the love of his life, Gene was on the verge of a depressive mental breakdown; it was during this time he wrote Quebec.
Given this information, the claim that Gene said this song was about Hell is plausible. However, it is not about the mythical Hell with fire and demons -- rather, it's about the Hell of reality. As rufonz38 so astutely pointed out, the contrast in this song represents the destruction of the drug-induced happiness that Gene buries his depression in. When he comes down, the terror of reality is too much for him to bear and he "loses his marbles", so to speak. |

The previous comments you referred to were all posted before Perfect Pitch Black was released.
But you do make some good points about the nature of the term "emo" and what it means today. |

| Mudvayne – Do What You Do Lyrics

I am not a judgemental person, especially when it comes to bands and their music. I know a lot of times bands are chastized for changing their styles and whatnot, when it is just the band finding new dimensions of their music and progressing their style, etc. I completely believe in the right of every band to change their style and play the music that suits them and experiment with softer and sometimes more commercially appealing sounds. That being said, this IS THE MOST BLATENT SELL-OUT I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE.
I refuse to defend Mudvayne for this. They didnt even try to be coy about it, they blatently made their music into psuedo-pop. This makes me very sad, because i predict that many bands will go down this very same path soon. |

| Say Anything – Yellow Cat (Slash) Red Cat Lyrics

its about how he is watching his cats and he looks down and thinks how futile their quarrel is that he can just drive his foot between them but he wont even risk a scratch on something so unimportant. then he thinks about it and says "then again...." look at my cousin greg whose life is just as futile and unimportant as those cats and he continues to look and sees his neighbor and lou and his neighbor's son and finally, himself. He sees how in the big scheme of things everyone is just as unimportant as his cats fight and classifies himself with them, hence the "friends" remark. He ends the song on a depressed note, looking back on his life and remarking how he is still in the middle of the crossroads, on the beaten path to boredom. |
