i find the line, "celluloid love's got a john frusciante" to be the most intriguing. i think it's a nice little contrast, as 'celluloid' can not only refer to the plastic but also Hollywood in general (i.e. the film industry as celluloid was once used in actual film). This line could be criticizing the plastic fakeness/superficiality of Hollywood but at the same time this line is realizing john frusciante is a part of this place (LA) even if he isn't a part of the fake scene or attitudes of other celebrities (thus the contrast). Thus the 'celluloid love' has an awesome person like john frusciante, whether or not he desires to be associated with all that the 'celluloid love' represents you know? as for the rest of the song...haha i'll refrain from analyzing as i just went into great depth to explain one line! |

i'm not completely sure about the entire song, but these lines stick out to me: ...in the morning light must* clean you, in the morning light must clean you out... to me this is saying take on each day with a clean mind because taking in morning light can be truly refreshing and it is allowing yourself to realize that it is a new day and a new chance given to you *i hear 'must' in this line instead of 'might' ? correct me if i'm wrong |

no i don't believe john frusciante has a son, however there have been weirder things kept secret and hidden from the general public... but that lyric really intrigues me as well: "this kind of falling saved my son" to me it is almost an inversion of the christian belief, humans are fallen and the son saved them....i'm not sure though |

This song haunts my soul in a beautiful way. To me it is just John's reflection on his life, what it has meant to him, note all the references to life-like cycles-tide, wind, moon rising up, etc... I think he is just trying to figure out what may be missing in his life he feels a lot of pain about something that he can't quite place his finger on, and he therefore he asks why? All of these thoughts he has relate to the irrelevance of time, these matters in his life are far more important than the concept of time...I guess what I'm saying is he wants purpose in life and this purpose has no true relation to time. Just a man staying up all night forgetting about the time and feeling a little lonely. |
