Sting – Englishman In New York Lyrics 14 years ago
People are reading into this song the wrong way. It's about the atypical Englishman and his mannerisms and manners, and how they stand out in a foreign country - particularly one as brash as the USA.

Hence the mention to tea, toast done on one side, the walking cane, and the approach to manners. The song is about a quintessential englishman living in America - gay or not.

Deacon Blue – Your Town Lyrics 16 years ago
I just looked up Discogs, and this song was released in 1992. Lady T left office in 1990 two years before that. Why wait two years to write this song?

Prefab Sprout – When Love Breaks Down Lyrics 16 years ago
This is a great song, with an obvious meaning. May I recommend Deacon Blue to those who like Prefab Sprout - they drew a lot of influence from them.

Listen to Chocolate Girl and When Will You Make My Telephone Ring - and Town To Be Blamed. You'll hear the likeness.

Gordon Lightfoot – If You Could Read My Mind Lyrics 16 years ago
I think he is singing about being in love with a woman who was interested, but isn't anymore, and doesn't really want anything to do with him.

He seems to have so many thoughts and feelings to express to her but never got the chance to, and if he did get the chance to tell her, she may change her mind. (Hence "if you could read my mind")

He is hurt - "in chains" - and won't be free'd from these metaphorical chains until she acknowledges how he feels for her and reciprocates, but he feels invisible to her now - that's why he says he is a ghost.
