The Beta Band – Al Sharp Lyrics

lol not sure it's about him, they're just weird. listen to their song "shrek," i don't know wtf it's about but i don't think the green ogre was anything more than a passing, minimal influence on the piece... |

The Dandy Warhols – Mohammed Lyrics

i didn't say it materialized on 9/11... i just doubt that a band like the dandy warhols-- who have no connection to islam themselves-- would write a song about a muslim who feels persecuted before 9/11. like it or not, anti-muslim sentiment in the US didn't mean much to anybody but the muslims themselves until 9/11 brought the issue into the mainstream (read: self-centered and narrow-minded) american population's attention (actually i doubt that the dandy's would write a song about anti-muslim sentiment even AFTER 9/11, either, because they're not very political and courtney mostly just sings about himself if you pay attention to most dandys songs... the "mohammed" title was probably just used to be cryptic and "exotic" and keep with the album's religious/philosophical song title conventions.) |

Ratatat – Seventeen Years Lyrics

pretty sure it's "kick."
anyway i adore this tune, listened to it for the first time in a while the other night and it almost brought me to tears at the end... i don't know how these guys instill so much emotion into music that is essentially very simple and has no words... |

Mercury Rev – The Dark Is Rising Lyrics

this song is overpowering. i love how the music flares up at intervals into this glorious overblown instrumental kind of sound, and then it goes back to the wistful, low-key vocals... the lyrics are sad and lovely, too. |

The Dandy Warhols – Mohammed Lyrics

(actually i doubt it, deliciosa, since this album's from 2000 and modern anti-Islam sentiment in the U.S. is largely rooted in events from 9/11/01 ... before then your average, insular american never thought much about muslims of any sort ... but i dont know for sure)
the lyrics are brief and cryptic... it's a beautiful song |

The Beta Band – Life Lyrics

from http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/31356-interview-the-beta-band:
" Pitchfork: Yeah, there seems to be sort of an anti-corporation theme in the song "Life," when you say, "Sell to them the killing gem/ Attack to get it back." At least, that's my reading on it.
Steve: That was kind of about what you say, but it was more written about... for example, in the Gulf War, the Americans and the British were fighting the Iraqis with weapons that they sold to the Iraqis. So American and British soldiers were being attacked with weapons that they sold them. Which, to me, was a ridiculous concept. So the Iraqis have got British weapons that were sold to them. I suppose it's the idea that these wars that happen-- for example, the Gulf War-- are just a case of shifting money around. The Americans and the British sold all these weapons to Saddam Hussein. And they think, how the hell can we get some more money out of him; well, let's have a war. We'll get him to use all his weapons on us, then he'll have to buy a load more. So it's just kind of that idea, but it could be any kind of big business deal. " |

Spiritualized – Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space Lyrics

song is perfect. allusion to that novel always makes me smile..
"i don't understand... why does he says "I don't believe...
I could still fall in love with you." and in the line just below "I will love you till I die"?"
might be about the occasional perception of love as paradoxical |

i believe at the end "I think that I could be your man, oh
Probably just thinking, yeah" it's actually "probably just think you can."
anyway, this is one of the best songs about drugs ever recorded. |

Hinder – Get Stoned Lyrics

and yeah "just one thing, this song doesnt make much sense because it says go home get stoned because sex is better when your mad at me, well, doesnt getting stoned make fou relaxed?" the song is just illogical too. booze makes you more inclined to fuck, weed, if anything, does the opposite... |

Hinder – Get Stoned Lyrics

these are the lyrics? yecch, what a dumb reason to get stoned. there are so many better songs about a) rocky relationships and b) taking drugs in an attempt to solve your personal problems. this song doesn't do either of them well. |

very comforting indeed, especially in the context of the rest of the album, which is so much harsher... it makes this an important reprieve |
