| Laura Marling – The Beast Lyrics | 13 years ago |

'How did you get home, you will never know' and 'You know I've been running 'round for hours' both suggest to me that the man has come home drunk. They have aged and the relationship has become stale. I'd really love to know what other people think about this! |

| Florence + the Machine – What the Water Gave Me Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I saw the whole song as exploring death. 'Time it took us To where the water was That's what the water gave me' Thinking of the future and fearing death means you don't enjoy life when it happens. Florence clearly accepts death in this song, and even welcomes it. Accepting that death does happen and living in the present moment gives you the ability to appreciate the full beauty of life as it happens. I feel 'water' is used because it's both bringer of life and a bringer of death. Maybe it gave Florence the realisation! |

| Regina Spektor – Hero Lyrics | 16 years ago |

A thought just came to me This song merges into Bartender- a song that involves drinking too much! Maybe Regina's pointing out that we as people can't deal with the truths about life and man and perhaps some people turn to alcoholism for an escape. Just an idea. |

| He said in an interview that this song was about learning to love himself | |
| Patrick Wolf – Don't Say No Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
The beginning part seems to me about fitting in within society to me: the only way you fit in is not by following your heart or dreams, but by succumbing to conformism. It also seems to me to be Patrick saying that we'll never fully understand the ways of the universe and life ('a thousand miles above our heads') and that we should just go with it. |

Both Genius and Daniel Cowman mention ejaculation and drowning. Don't know if it's a coincidence or not. |

| Regina Spektor – Hero Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song seems to carry many of the themes of Lord Of The Flies: How it is in man's nature to sin etc. As well as that, the character Jack, in the book dismisses the need to keep the fire lit to be saved and becomes the 'hero'- to the other boys at least- by finding meat and shelter. There are also biblical references in both. |

| Regina Spektor – Music Box Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
To me, despite the obvious happy melody, there is no question that this song is about suicide. "Life inside the music box ain't easy The mallets hit The gears are always turning And everyone inside the mechanism Is yearning to get out And sing another melody completely" Shows wanting to escape, maybe to the after life? But, what made it defiante for me is "It tastes like soap but it doesn't really taste like soap And then I lower in my whole mouth and take a gulp And start to feel mortality surround me" I think this is some poisonous substance she has taken, especially as it says about feeling mortality surround her. |
