| Chris Pureka – Compass Rose Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I think it's pretty clear this is about a decision between chosing someone who did not support her career vs. doing what she loves. On a related this song has caused me to want to get a compass rose tattoo. |

| Moby – Natural Blues Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| If you listen to the lyrics and how they're being sung, you will notice a resemblance between this and songs that black slaves would sing in the fields as a way to communicate without the slave masters knowing what they're talking about. It seems like a brilliant recreation of such a song describing how someone was murdered. | |
| Blue October – Kangaroo Cry (New Version) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think it's pretty obvious what this song is about. It's sort of a tribute to those who serve, both as him wanting to "stand beside the ones who stood alone", but also wanting our troops out of harms way "How long will we have to sing until you finally bring our sons our daughters home?", referencing the numerous Anti-War songs that have been out there (knowing his influences I would have to say R.E.M. is among the ones he's hinting to). | |
| Collective Soul – Adored Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is clearly about a man who meets a woman when he's really not looking for a relationship. She makes him realize just how special he is. He describes her as a ray of light in a otherwise dark world, while she describes him as a great man who gives up everything for everyone else and never asks for anything in return, like Jesus. It's the differences between someone who is humble looking at themselves and seeing only a sepia picture, and a woman seeing a vibrant painting. It's a beautiful song, and when I get married I am definitely dancing to this song with whomever I marry, because it would be so accurate of our relationship. | |
| Vertical Horizon – Wash Away Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Yeah, Keith Kane's songs are pretty straight up. There's not a whole lot of meanings that can be derived from this song. I agree, this is one of the best. Keith Kane is a musical GOD! |
|
| Vertical Horizon – Inside Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Scannell and Kane are two of the best out there. It is definitely about how intertwined we are, and how we influence each other. One of my favorites from Go! | |
| Carbon Leaf – Desperation Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I don't think it's about a woman who has settled down, but a woman who keeps going from man-to-man (How many, many more until you lose?) I think the man in this song desperately loves the woman. He's wondering if she faked everything. | |
| Gavin Rossdale – This Place Is On Fire Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
To me the meaning of this song, the lyrics coupled with the techno-chant sound could have several meanings. On the traditional 'love' meaning, it could be about two people who love each other but everything else is going wrong. Personally, I think it's more political. I think it reflects more how that there is only us on this planet and it's going up in flames, literally and figuratively. |

| Carbon Leaf – A Girl and Her Horse Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think this song is about women who cheat: With no words to say A girl and her horse can communicate Cause motion's motion and nothing's up for debate Sounds a lot like sex to me. Especially in the context of the rest of the song. It seems like realizing that if she has guy friends that she frequently hangs around, you've already lost 'the race'. She'll continue to ride her horse and you'll get left at the starting gate. |

| Carbon Leaf – One Prairie Outpost Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| For me, it reminds me of moving across country as a kid, and now as an adult, finding myself in a place that I haven't been since I was a child, as I travel the same roads I did when I was young. If someone asks me "where have I been.", I would probably answer just as this song goes: I don't know because I don't know where to begin. | |
| Carbon Leaf – Texas Stars Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| To me it's about realizing one's own potential. How many times we focus on others, and their 'greatness', without seeing our own potential. | |
| Carbon Leaf – Block Of Wood Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think it is about a family going through self-destruction, and how the individual takes a piece to remember his past but starts a new life but remembers his past "the block of wood" and the glowing ember "the warm, happy times", and luckily has a friend that is there to help him through. | |
| Gary Jules – Mad World (Tears for Fears cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this song is about how sad it is that we're all interacting with each other every day but we never know anyone. We're disconnected, and we keep repeating the mistakes of yesterday. It's about someone who has realized this is the way the world is. | |
| OneRepublic – Apologize Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
There's a lot that I love about this song. Personally, the primary thing is that it's written from a mans perspective. There's always songs about someone cheating on someone, or a woman getting pissed of at a guy for something and ruining his truck or becoming 'free', what have you. This is really one of the few songs that I feel put into words and music exactly what most good men feel. The part about being on a rope 10 feet off the ground isn't a suicide reference at all. It's the concept of being strung along, and finally it's time to let go, but there's a long drop and a sudden stop at the end. It's going to hurt but it has to be done. Next, like I said this song is exactly what many men think when they've had enough. There's no anger, just disappointment. The song puts beautify into words how a man has basically given this woman his soul, done nothing but love her and cherish her. Yet, time and time again she plays with his heart thinking "Oh, I can just say I'm sorry and he'll take me back". Rather than get angry, or yell, the guy in this song simply says "It's too late to apologize." and leaves it at that. This song means a lot to me because this son is exactly what I've been going though. My ex-fiance apologizes, and we 'work on the relationship' awhile before she throws me aside again, and after two times I really did tell her enough was enough, it's too late to apologize, I'm gone, best wishes for you. Perfect song, perfect melody, perfect beat. I can't get it out of my head! |

| R.E.M. – Daysleeper Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is one of those songs you can't fully understand until you work the night shift anywhere. Social lives in America are based around the evening. People who work nights tend to have relatively no social life (I know I didn't), and depression can set in from this. The world relies on many companies to have 24 hour operations but few people appreciate the sacrifices made by people who work the night shift. | |
| R.E.M. – Shiny Happy People Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is one of my favorite songs and for me doesn't have any real underlying meaning. It is just a great song. | |
| Vertical Horizon – We Are Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's about existence, and there being no clear reason why we're here. | |
| R.E.M. – The Lifting Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I agree, the alternative version is far superior. I take it as just a series of dreams while on a business trip. |
|
| R.E.M. – Beat A Drum Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I always thought this was about being a parent. At least when I hear the chorus, I think about someone saying it while holding their baby. | |
| R.E.M. – Final Straw Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think this song is about Gay Marriage. Think about it? "Who died and lifted you up to perfection?" " If hatred makes a play on me tomorrow And forgiveness takes a back seat to revenge There's a hurt down deep that has not been corrected There's a voice in me that says you will not win" This song is probably the easiest to understand. He's asking the masses to stop this discrimination against homosexuals, and to "make it right". This is the main part of the song in my opinion: "Now love cannot be called into question Forgiveness is the only hope I hold And love - love will be my strongest weapon I do believe that I am not alone". This song just screams of equal rights for same-sex marriage. |

| R.E.M. – Around the Sun Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is simply about standing up for principles and change, and standing up for what is right and good. | |
| R.E.M. – Leaving New York Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| When I heard this song for the first time, it was shortly after I moved away from home right after high school from Wenatchee, WA to Phoenix, AZ, and it really hit home for me. To me, my New York was Wenatchee, and the reason I left was because the life was fading out... there were no jobs, no opportunity, but I love the city and I love Chelan County (where Wenatchee is located). It was hard to leave it, and I didn't want to go, but I needed to... I had to. | |
| R.E.M. – Saturn Return Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This is one of my favorite songs from REM. It's just amazing construction of lyric and sound. I think it's about being alone because you're different than the rest of society, constantly looking at the stars (celebs) and the 'better people' and feeling inferior, to the point where self-destruction has taken place. I also think it can also mean that you've left the popular mentality behind, but are now seen as more of an outsider and strange, much like Galileo's ideas went against the teachings of the church. |
