I guess I've got everything I need
I would't ask for more
And there's no one I'd rather be
But I just wish that I'd never been born

| Neil Young – Running Dry (Requiem For The Rockets) Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
The rockets was the group from which Crazy horse was formed...danny whitten, ralph molina and billy talbot were in the rockets along with Bobby notkoff who plays the violin on this song.
they released one album, which if you can find is definitely worth the listen....the other two members of the rockets leon and george whitsell later joined crazy horse for the Loose album (or is it "at crooked lake") |

this was put out by neil and graham nash in support of the Democrat presidential candidate George McGovern when he stood against Nixon.
He lost.
george wallace was a pro-segregationist governor of Alabama, he also stood for the democrats but failed to get the nomination, he was shot not for political reasons but his assassin wanted fame.
a belting tune. |

| The Kinks – Where Have All the Good Times Gone? Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
|
always thought it was the early effects of fame and all the trappings that come with it that he was singing about...ie when they were a young band just starting out, things were easier, once fame, money etc rolled in things become difficult and fractured. and when you consider the internal dynamics of the kinks it makes it more understandable...those guys were at each others throats for a long time. |

| Jethro Tull – Christmas Song Lyrics
|
its funny that a song written in 1970 still rings so true today as the true meaning of christmas gets lost further in commercialism, even if not a christian yourself the idea of giving/helping each other and wanting peace on earth not just christmas parties and getting hammered is a great sentiment.
one of my fave tull songs |

| Nirvana – Sliver Lyrics
|
jesus h...far too deep...abandonment issues aside, its simply about his mum and dad going out for the evening, him not wanting to go to his grandparents house but eventually having a good time hence:
after dinner, I had ice cream
Fell asleep, and watched TV
I woke up in my mother's arms
Even kurt himself said it was a happy song, just kids like to think they can look after themselves and dont need babysitters.
it does exactly what it says on the tin folks...like it or not...as for waking up in his mothers arm being allegorical...nonsense....hes asleep and being carried into his own house....i mean if his parents got divorced when he was 7, do you think his mum was still carrying him about? |

the main person with the shtik is courtney love though the other verses are about the hole guitarist Eric something, who went out with drew barrymore at the time hence the hollywood model thing, the next is about layne stanley the alice in chains singer who hung around with them, the last one is janet sue billig part of nirvana/hole management.
the whole song is mark arms disgust at what these people had become...
one of the finest angriest garage songs ever written |
