Van Canto – Last Night of the Kings Lyrics 12 years ago
Lyrically, this song (as well as The Mission) seem to have been inspired by the writings of Ayn Rand. Is there any chance that these guys have read her works? Because that would just make them that much more awesome than they already are...

3 Doors Down – Kryptonite Lyrics 14 years ago
ugh... look, i'm glad that you caught the obvious pink floyd reference with "Dark Side of the Moon", one of their most well-known albums. however, i'm quite sick of people who assume that everything pink floyd wrote was just about drugs... only the first 4 or 5 albums, and a smattering of songs here and there are about drugs...

the album DSotM is about being driven crazy by all of the pressures of the world. based on this fact, i tend to agree with the people who say this song is also about all the expectations the world places on him.

Def Leppard – Ring Of Fire Lyrics 14 years ago
yeah, these lyrics are wrong. i looked up the lyrics on def leppard's official website. so here they are, corrected.

"Thunder, you're tempting me
A feast of spice in the night is what I need
Ooh I'm a-ready to roar
And I'm a-ready for more
Well I'm a-ready to burn like the light into the dawn

Oh I gotta see the fire in me turning into ecstasy
So stick around and settle down, enjoy the mystery
A voice in the wilderness, there's somethin' in the air
A hidden love, forbidden pleasure, suffer secret pain

Thunder
Are you ready, ready for burnin'
Feels like fire
Are you ready, ready for burnin'
Ring of fire

Heartless, so indiscreet
You're stealing up from behind, a raging heat
I'm staring into the sun
I'm staring into a gun
I'm stirring up a storm
Turn it on and let it burn

Oh I gotta see the fire in me
Turning into ecstasy
So stick around and settle down
Enjoy the mystery
A voice in the wilderness
There's somethin' in the air
A hidden love, forbidden pleasure, suffer secret pain

Thunder
Are you ready, ready for burnin'
Feels like fire
Are you ready, ready for burnin'
Ring of fire
Are you ready, ready for burnin'
Oh, feels like fire
Are you ready, ready for burnin'
Ring of fire

Thunder, you tempted me
Ya cut me up, like a knife so tenderly

Oh I gotta see the fire in me
Burning up my ecstasy
A hidden love, forbidden pleasure, suffer secretly

Oh no
Are you ready, ready for burnin'
Feels like fire
Are you ready, ready for burnin'
Ring of fire
Are you ready, ready for burnin'
Feels like fire
Are you ready, ready for burnin'
Ring of fire"

i also noticed that the opening guitar riff of this song is almost straight off of ozzy osbourne's "crazy train". great song, though.

i highly doubt that it's about eating mexican (or indian) food and having bad gas, as the lyrics as a whole don't seem to support it. it seems to be about, as letmein says, a girl who just wants to have fun, but the singer wants something deeper.

well, there's my two cents. enjoy

Def Leppard – Two Steps Behind Lyrics 14 years ago
i agree with magicblue22's interpretation. eerily similar to how i feel towards my ex right now...

something i'm surprised no one has mentioned though, is the mistake in the lyrics. it's "from the shadow that's creeping beside you", not "see my shadow that's creeping up inside you"

Def Leppard – Rock Of Ages Lyrics 15 years ago
this song pretty much rocks.

the part at the beginning is actually "gunter, glieben, glauten, globen", which is reportedly pure nonsense b/c the producer got tired of shouting the usual "1-2-3-4" after doing a bagillion retakes of this song.

interestingly enough, though, "globen" is actually german for "globes", and if you drop the "g" 's off the words, you produce "unter, lieben, lauten, loben", which are actual german words meaning "under, to love, loud (rough translation on this one, not entirely sure), to praise", respectively.

Cheap Trick – I Want You To Want Me Lyrics 15 years ago
I love the way that, on the live version, he opens it by saying, slowly, "I want YOU to want... ME!!" It's quite amusing... I once heard someone jokingly comment that he said it slowly like that b/c they were in Japan & he wanted to make sure the people understood him.

Yeah, the original was definately by Cheap Trick.

Great song, you just gotta love it.

Robert Palmer – Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor) Lyrics 15 years ago
i can't figure out if he's saying he has a bad case of loving the doctor, or he's telling the person he loves that the doctor told him he has a bad case of loving her.

Great song, though.

Ozzy Osbourne – Over The Mountain Lyrics 15 years ago
i'm sure gerryLopez realizes that the album was written before the crash, he's just saying (and i agree with him) that the titles of the songs he mentioned seem to almost prophecy randy's death. this eerieness is increased when you take into account the fact that this was the last album he performed on before dying.

Black Sabbath – St. Vitus Dance Lyrics 15 years ago
Yeah, the meaning is pretty straightforward, but I can't figure out how the title relates at all.

St. Vitus' Dance is a nuerological disorder characterized by jerky, uncontrollable muscle spasms of the arms and/or legs that seem to flow along the limbs and cause it to look almost like one is dancing in place. If anyone can explain the relation between the title and the meaning of the song or the lyrics, I would be grateful.

Aerosmith – Kings And Queens Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is frickin' awesome... i'm not entirely sure what it's about, though i feel inclined to believe that steve was telling the truth when he said it was just kinda fantasizing about the medeieval ages.
Probably contains on of the greatest bass solos ever writen.

well cosidering all the sexual inuendoes about doing the "rag doll", i'd hope he's not talking about his daughter... no, i'm pretty sure it's aboutthe shadier, "red light district" part of towns, and just sorta prostitution in general.

Ozzy Osbourne – I Just Want You Lyrics 15 years ago
umm... did you really say that Ozzy was poor? This was well into his solo career, which had made him a good bit of money by itself, not evem counting the craploads of money he made with Black Sabbath and the royalties he was probaby still getting from the sale of the cd's they made with him.

Ozzy Osbourne – I Just Want You Lyrics 15 years ago
I think that, overall, this song was written as a tribute to his wife, Sharon. I know that at some point, Ozzy, while under the influence of drugs, told her, "we've come to a decision. we're going to have to kill you" and then proceeded to try to strangle her. It's possible that this song was n attempt to tell her, "Hey, I'm sorry. I'm not really sure of anything right now, but one thing: I want you." (if I'm wrong about the chronology, someone let me know".

When I first heard this song, I was like "WTF? A love song by Ozzy? That's not totally weird at all..."

After I heard about the incident with Sharon, I understood it more, though.
Great song, and I would have to agree that it's one of Ozzy's best.

Bon Jovi – You Give Love A Bad Name Lyrics 15 years ago
i kinda agree. a few months ago, i was seriously considering breaking up with my girlfriend. i finally called her to do so, and she said, "let's just take a break for a few days and then give me another chance." 3 days later, i broke up with her. oddly enough, 3 days after that, i realized that i was making a big deal out of stupid little things and we got back together. oh well...

Bon Jovi – You Give Love A Bad Name Lyrics 15 years ago
yeah, that problem comes up a lot with bands whose names sound like they could be the name of a person. kinda like pink floyd, where a representative from a record company, when he first met them, asked "by he way, which one's pink?"

Def Leppard – Foolin' Lyrics 15 years ago
wow, i always thought that part at the end went "i've got foolin' for sale", but that never really made sense, and now that i think about it, it does sound mre like "i'm not foolin' myself"

anyways, this song is definately one of def leppard's best songs.

btw, pikespice & classic rocker8 are both wrong. the solo in this song isn't really that great. if you want the best solo in the history of metal, listen to crazy train. Randy Rhoades was a true god when it comes to the guitar. RIP, Randy.

Tom Petty – Mary Jane's Last Dance Lyrics 15 years ago
of course he's going to say he doesn't have a clue. no remotely sane artist is going to admit they wrote a song about their struggle with a drug addiction. however, the song is definately about pot. the narrator is struggling to get over his addiction, but it's hard, so he's going to have one "last dance with mary jane", meaning he's goig to smoke pot one more time "to kill the pain" (something pot does a nice job of. when you're stoned, you don't feel anything.) caused by many problems going on in his life.

Styx – Man In The Wilderness Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is great, evn thought the guitar riff towards the end is almost straight out of the song immediatley before it on the album, "Miss America".

As to the meaning, i agree with charadeur.

Styx – Why Me Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is strange, but still petty good. One of the few styx songs to make use of the saxophone, interestingly enough.

Kevin forgot the part at the end where he says "chica-oom" over and over again until the end. not particularly important, but it's like the phrase "goo-goo-gachoob" in "I Am the Walrus" and the phrase "shoot me" in "Come Together".

I can't figure out what on earth "rubelator" means, so if anyone knows, let me know and 'd appreciate it a lot.

Not entirely sure what the meaning is, though...

submissions
Styx – Great White Hope Lyrics 15 years ago
Well, first of all, kevin left out some of the lyrics. At the beginning of the song, you hear someone shouting "Ladies and gentelemen! Ladies and gentlemen, your attention please! In this corner, wearing white, from the city of the big shoulders (not entirely sure about that part), the number one contender,in a ten round exhibition for your entertainment. So when the bell sounds, prepare yourselves for the main event"

As to the meaning, you could say it's about boxing, Oberheim345, but i think it goes deeper than that. It's about living out your dreams, despite what everyone else tries to tell you, and not listening to the people who want you to fail.

submissions
Styx – Lords Of The Ring Lyrics 15 years ago
i always thought this song was a tribute to Tolkein's Lord of the Rings books, set when Sauron convinced the elves to help him craft these rings, but, looking at the lyrics of that last verse, i guess lapofthegods' interpretation makes more sense

Styx – Pieces Of Eight Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm the first person to comment on this song? how on earth... This song is great. i love the keyboard/bass solo in the middle of the song.
anyways... a piece of 8 was the nickname for a piece of currency in the spanish empire used for several centuries around the world. i think the song is about how people shouldn't trust "get-rich quick" schemes, as they tend to fail, and instead should simply be content with what they have. i have a feeling that i'm wrong, so if anyone has an interpretation they're more sure about, feel free to correct me.

i always figured this song was about some election where the writer publicly supported a candidate that won, but then turned out to be no different from what had been going on before (hence "meet the new boss/same as the old boss lines).

the chorus kinda reminds me of how i feel after this election. i wanna just get on my knees and pray we don't get fooled again into electing this socialist RETARDnamed obama...

Styx – Castle Walls Lyrics 15 years ago
this song is amazing!!! easily the best song they ever did, and vastly underrated. i can't believe the only album it ever appeared on was the grand illusion. this should've been on either volume 1 or 2 of their greatest hits albums. i freakin' love the keyboard solo in the middle (which is saying something, because i'm not a big fan of keyboard solos, but this, the one in peter frampton's "do you feel like we do?" and the one in the doors' "when you're strange" are just great.)

Peter Frampton – Do You Feel Like We Do? Lyrics 15 years ago
i don't think this song actually means anything. it's just one of those songs that are awesome and great to just chill out and listen to. definately THE song that made the voice-box effect famous. bon jovi, aerosmith, and whoever wrote "now you'll mess with a son of a bitch" (or whatever it's called) owe him big for the inspiration. you just can't help but love it... and it's even better live... i guarantee that most people do realize that the guitar is NOT actually talking, and, though they may not know what the voice box is, they know it's some sort of special effect, but who cares? it's freakin' awesome and it sounds like his guitar is freakin' talkin'!!! why does it really matter how he's doin' it? and i love the geico commercial he did. anyways, this song is just ABSOLUTELY FREAKIN' GENIOUS!!!! anyone who can write a song 13 and a half minutes long with a 5 minute guitar solo using a crap load of voice box is a genius. they just don't write music like this anymore...

submissions
Ozzy Osbourne – Fire In The Sky Lyrics 15 years ago
don't get me wrong, this song is good, but the meaning of this song is a thematic rip-off of pink floyd's album "the wall". basically, about a guy who is emotionally wounded in his childhood ad so he shuts himself off behind a mental wall to protect his emotions from everyone else's prying eyes and protect himself from further pain, but over time it starts to fall apart, and he is exposed, whether he likes it or not.

oh, and although the original is generally better (case in point, pink floyd's goodbye blue sky vs. soad's cover), not always. eric clapton's "i shot the sherriff" is much better than bob marley's original. styx cover of i am the walrus is somewhat better than the beatles original (owing mostly to the heavier guitar).

i actually didn't realize this was a cover of a black sabbath song, though i knew black sabbath had a song with this name, i haven't heard it. (though, it has been on my to do list for a while...)

Pink Floyd – The Dogs of War Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is great. by far the best on the album, and one of the best songs the band produced after Rogers left. Richard Wright (RIP) has an awesome saxaphone solo in the middle of it that you can't help but love. One thing i can't figure out, though, is who does the bass line in the intro since Waters left before it was produced?

submissions
Pink Floyd – Money Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is one of the best songs to ever come out of Pink Floyd, between Roger's bass line, Richard's sax solo (RIP) and Gilmoure's guitar solo that follows it, you just can't help but love it.

Pink Floyd – Yet Another Movie Lyrics 15 years ago
1st of all, the lyrics are definately "the use of force", not "forge". As for the meaning, I think Kara D. has the closest interpretation. The song is definately about going to see a movie. The viewer (probably gilmoure) got bored because it wasn't very good, and instead started looking around at the other movie-goers. He is disgusted that they are so enraptured by such a crappy movie.
Now that that's out of the way, i've gotta say that this is one of the best songs Pinkk Floyd did after Waters left, right up there with Sorrow, The Dogs of War (by the way, that is the best song on the album, hands down), and High Hopes (off of The Division Bell).

Ozzy Osbourne – I Don't Wanna Stop Lyrics 15 years ago
Also, the instrumentation for this music sounds a lot like wyldes was trying to go back to the way Black Sabbath orignally sounded, which makes me happy, because for a while it seemed like most of Ozzy's music had gone soft...

Ozzy Osbourne – I Don't Wanna Stop Lyrics 15 years ago
this song is great. Ozzy might have been one of the most f*ed up drug users in music history, but he was a lyrical genius, and chose great guitarists - Tony Iommi during his Black Sabbath years, Randy Rhodes (RIP) and Wildes (not as good as the other two, but still pretty good). The singing doesn't sound like Ozzy at all, though... Anyways, as far as i can tell, all of the interpretations here (basically the same) sound right.

System of a Down – Aerials Lyrics 16 years ago
oh, and just b/c daron said that doesn't make it true. soad doesn't really give straightforward answers when asked what a song means b/c they like for their songs to mean whatever it happens to mean to the listener. it's like pink floyd (fav band), it can be interpreted so many different ways and was intended that way.
