somewhat obvious what it's about. i love that they reference themselves in the first few lines. "i've got two shoes but they've been walked too far" "two shoes" being the name of their last album. It's almost like a way to start the new album saying "hey, this will be a bit different than the last one" |

| what an amazing song and new cd. It's fairly obvious that it's about having a crush on a good friend who wants someone else. He's trying to move on to someone else quickly but it still pains him to see the original girl with someone else | |

Lyrics should be I don't know if this is right I know that it's not formulaic On another note, I feel like the title combined with the lyrics give the impression that the singer is expecting his life to be like a movie but it isn't. i spent seven hours waiting for a bus that comes and goes if i don't wait then i can't be late for something more says to me that he's waiting for his life to become the movie he sees it as. we were supposed to go on and to much bigger things than we've done with stitches and make-up you'll hold it together for me no one's feeling bad it's as honest as beliefs that anyone has it's officially been stated and my state is of distraction all the waves can't wash away what's way too strong This says he thought his life would be bigger because he perceives himself in the movies. He feels very adamant about this and "it's as honest as beliefs that anyone has" and his opinion wont change "all the waves can't wash away what's way too strong" I'm not completely sure on the whole song, but this is what sticks out most to me. Either way, an amazing song. One of my favorites |

| i've never been able to figure it out, but does he say "new sex position" or "news exposition"? | |
| Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Who Do You Love? Lyrics | 18 years ago |

i'd always suspected it was directed towards bush, and mdawg's suggestion that it's from a soldier makes it make so much more sense to me. "Who do you love?" likely refers to how republicans are often talking of how they support the troops. a few other lines to take note of "So the weight of your will will stave off decline And you won’t stop that war, but that don’t stop you trying" referring to troop levels not declining and how bush wants to end the war with a surge "And so goes the most of our freedom of speech" most likely about patriot act, bush criticizing people for criticizing his war "plan" "Your love’s a ghost, and that’s why we’re delayed here" referring to the longer tours of duty for soldiers |

I always suspected this song was about him going to meet a girl he loved, though my first interpretation was about an ex that the singer missed. I originally saw 505 either as their apartment number they used to live in or maybe a time frame (may 2005). lines like "I probably still adore you With your hands around my neck Or I did last time I checked" "The knife twists at the thought that I should fall short of the mark" "But I crumble completely when you cry It seems like once again you've had to greet me with goodbye" can all just show how completely in love with this girl he still is and it's like she doesnt accept or doesnt want him |
