i tend to agree with the latter assessments of this song. even though the christ connection could be easily made, i think it's too easy a connection. the singing, forsaken lover seems like he's saying that if he can't have his love, he's dead. also, the song feels like it hints at his former lover's less desirable side, a side that takes away her statuesque standing. maybe the singer set himself for doom.... |

sounds like he's going to come back and haunt the place. full of nothing but bad memories for him. also, he seems to be realizing his choices led him far from where he wanted, or what he thought he deserved. no friends, jealousy of the rich car owners...he definitely sees a giant dildo crushing the sun...

as good as this song is, it makes me sad. Seeing as how are society places a strong emphasis on possessions and things in general, these are stereotypical of the folk we entrust our stuff with. also, they make highways and interstates REAL fun. |

this song has always sounded like a bum's polluted dream. some down and out drunkard (the rotten oasis) getting the wrong kind of love from the wrong kind of people(stealing kisses...). Instead of a god complex, this voice sounds like it wants some kind of revenge or retribution. where god would probably be more forgiving, the devil loves getting even, especially for all the wrong reasons. i really love this song. always puts a wicked smirk on my face... |

for me,this song has always been about a search. the original humans had their ways of looking and found what they could. now it's time for a new vision. Old wisdom has turned just that: old, sick and weary. choose your path(like choosing band members). something YOU decide. you can even follow someone else's path if you want. More often than not, if you go with what gives you strong, but healthy, feelings, those emotions create a powerful tool for memory. Seems to me like toward the song's end, he's trying to emphasize his belief in instincts, even though jim himself could be very calculated. overall, I think the erie tone of the song sets the proper mood for looking and searching through dark, unknown areas of one's life. very powerful song. |
