Rihanna – Umbrella Lyrics 17 years ago
Honestly, not one person here got it right. Some of you certainly touched on some of the meaning, but for christ sake stop culling a deeper hidden meaning from the artist who brought us "Break it off boy, cause you got me feelin' naughty. I wanna know boy, If I could be your shawty."

She's using the umbrella as a metaphor for support, her sexuality, and more directly, her skirt. Basically, thats it. 'When you're down, come to me and i'll make you feel better by hooking up. We've been friends, and I want you anyways, so let's hook up because that'll make you feel better. I love you, so come on over so we can hook up. You'll feel better because of it.'

Jay-Z opens by explaining situations where you're running into problems (case in point, a falling stock market) and that he needs to hook up with Rihanna because she's a high point ("good girl gone bad"). The video is to emphasize this, its why looking slutty and provocative are in fact perfectly suited to the song.

She repeats ella and eh to subtly imply sex. Like rhythmic moaning. It also takes up space on a vocal track; is catchy albeit annoying; and characteristic of sexual innuendo. At this point, "Baby, come into me." should seem almost literal.

So to summarize, the following lines:

- Coming down with the Dow Jones
- Baby cause in the dark
You can't see shiny cars
And that's when you need me there
- You can stand under my umbrella
- When the war has took it's part
When the world has dealt it's cards
If the hand is hard, together we'll mend your heart
- Come into me
There's no distance in between our love

When life is down, I'll make you feel better and/when we have sex.

Don't believe me? Look at the video again. Then remember this is RIHANNA and not CUMMINGS and when you dance to this song you're GRINDING. I like the song. Really. But defining true love, deep meaning, strong bond: you all can shove it.

Fucking stupid people.
