Red Hot Chili Peppers – Police Station Lyrics 1 month ago
The one that got away didn’t lead a great life. She had high hopes but fell short of reaching goals.

Imagine having a close friend that you and have great chemistry with and want more with, but their dreams took them in a different direction, then you’re stuck watching them spiral and fail. I imagine it’s naturally inevitable to want to swoop in and save them.
Then you have to watch them getting married while still lamenting what you always believed you could have had together.
The story in my head when I listen to this song reads just that way

Sticky Fingers – Hyper Lyrics 9 months ago
You’ll know these lyrics if you’ve ever had a loved one dependent upon substance abuse, this song particularly noting Dylan’s alcohol abuse (my best guess)

You’ll have seen them turn into a different person altogether and you’ll have missed who they use to be, often with the dawning inevitability that you’ll never see the one you loved ever again due to the damage that their self abuse has inflicted upon their brain.

As much as I love the song itself, the lyrics help me cry when my need for a catharsis forces me to pay attention

Queens of the Stone Age – ...Like Clockwork Lyrics 1 year ago
You either know it by relativity or you’re yet to self destructive.
….like clockwork.
One thing that is clear: it’s all done hill from here.

Holding on too long is just a fear of letting go.

You know what’s it’s about and if you don’t, you’ve yet to put yourself through the torment of things like addiction, self destructive behaviours and self sabotage as response to non-ideal situations as a kind of overreaction to that which most would just call “life”. But (you who identifies) and I recognise effortlessly what’s being illuded to

The kind of aesthetically emotional tirade that could only be of a birth child of Elton John and Josh Homme. If you’re going to sit and enjoy the resentful energy of Fairweather friends you absolutely must folliw it up with I Appear Missing

Queens of the Stone Age – The Vampyre Of Time And Memory Lyrics 1 year ago
The most blissful separation between Josh and the general, unappreciating public is that his lyrics s em lazy, unimaginative and cocky to most… but to those who identify with his struggles, his analogies are perfect and incomparable to alternative options.
Even within this album, post operation and devoid of critical input, Josh convey’s his relatability to those of us in the public spectrum by comparing the simplicity of the fantasy of having a tail to that which we wish was far simpler, as it seems for others, to grasp what it is we DO strive toward vs what we OUGHT TO strive toward.
That’s my own projective take, anyway

Sarah Blasko – Perfect Now Lyrics 1 year ago
This strikes me as somebody she’s scared of, someone who tramples her to keep her in line, has her dote on him.

“Perfect beauty” laid before me…. Is he a narcissist?
“I’m too scared to breathe I might do something wrong”
“I feel every second is a lifetime long”

When I lay with someone I love, every hour is a minute long. This seems the opposite for her.

But then…
“ Living underneath this guilt
I can't leave a house that I have built
Though I feel it sinking further everytime
And the weight of my mistakes
Means that everything I touch breaks
I don't want to see you as the next in line”

Did she cheat on him?
Is she leaving him for someone else?
Has the lyrical focus switched to somebody else?

Maybe she cheated on this dude in the past and as a result he has become controlling and psychotic to the point where she’s afraid to leave him because of what his insecurities and trust issues turn him into.

Sadly, that last paragraph could just be projection, because that’s exactly how it was for me.
The problem is now whenever I hear this song I can’t help but relate to that last verse so heavily it’s hurts to think about

A Perfect Circle – The Doomed Lyrics 2 years ago
Jesus’ teachings were mostly of peace, love yada yada… but that’s not what you see from the majority of those who claim to follow him. They scream about abortion being murder but what are they doing to help those in need, donating to a church? Then going home to their privilege and security of having a roof over their head and a tv to sit in front of all day, listening to republicans tell them they’re being persecuted and undervalued….\n\nDoomed is about the fundamental moral hypocrisy of the bible; one can be truly faithful to their deity but be an arsehole to everyone else and still be forgiven but anyone not following or believing in the same deity while doing so much good for those around them are doomed for eternity

Ani DiFranco – Grey Lyrics 2 years ago
Grey is the symbiotic colour of numbness.\n\nThis is a level of depression that your brain recognises as dangerous territory, so the self defence mechanism that kicks in is shutting off both the receptors of serotonin and norepinephrine until something sparks the inspiration to pick one’s self up and start climbing the hill of life again, rather than just wallowing in the mud and struggling against the urge to lay face down and suffocate.\n\n“Wallow in you” hits me a bit because, in my mind, she’s either allowing herself to feel again which triggers the emotional areas of the brain and floods her head with the now overwhelming emotions she hasn’t felt in so long or she’s reached the point of security where she’s allowing herself to be bully era or for that pent up pressure to pour out all at once \n\nHaunting song

I think it’s as simple as “I accidentally revealed a secret and to be honest I’m not really sure I deserved that burden isn’t he first place but I’m sorry for the damage I’ve caused”.\n\nI always wanted to make a fan clip with various scenarios, like young man being caught cross dressing erotically and some people having an affair

Anastacia – Left Outside Alone Lyrics 2 years ago
I’d say it’s about her father.
-All my life I’ve been waiting.
-Careless, helpless little man.
The one man every girl should be able to count on is her father and it sounds like this guy was so emotionally distant and/or neglectful that the only other male role model she could reach out to was her concept of a deity (Heavenly Father please save me) to deal with her despair and emotional abandonment

Avenged Sevenfold – Buried Alive Lyrics 3 years ago
I’m pretty sure it’s about suicidal thoughts and the sadness that clouds one’s judgement in pressing times. Almost like he’s singing it to Rev...

“Take the time....(through to)...only if it’s real”

You’re overwhelmed, your heads telling you things, but what is it saying? Listen to your head. I think I might know what you’re feeling so hear me out and only agree with me if I’m on the money. Correct me where I’m wrong. I want to help you

submissions
A Perfect Circle – The Outsider Lyrics 4 years ago
I always thought it was about someone threatening suicide for attention. There are people who genuinely want to do die and plan to do so quietly, but there are others bringing drama and attention to themselves with these threats (I’ve known people to do this while I quietly wished suicide was an option for myself). It’s frustrating to no end to see some self destructive nancy begging for sympathy and attention by trivialising a legitimate threat to your own livelihood in this way.
After reading these 200 comments I better understand most people’s take on it

Robbie Williams – Feel Lyrics 6 years ago
This song spoke to me the first day it was released here in Australia, back before I was smart enough to actually listen to songs for their poetic value.
I was 19 and at a stage in my life where I hadn’t actually felt the heart warming joy of falling in love for a long time. I’d slept around and liked girls but hadn’t fallen head over heals for anyone in so long, so I questioned exactly what I was doing with all this pent up affection I yearned to pour onto someone i could fall in love with.

It’s exactly what this song means to me

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Catch My Death Lyrics 6 years ago
That chorus! Such moving melodies and commanding vocals. Anthony’s vocals are so soulful and strong, he could improve Shakespeare by covering Hamlet in a minor.

In regards of the song, I’ve only just discovered and am still deciphering the meanings.

I think he’s on a spiritual journey that he keeps finding is incomplete again and again throughout his life. Always in bloom but never fully harvested. He has so much to offer in the ways of creative thought and reflection (yeah drugs are good for that).

To me, “you” is death. The ultimate end is the final answer. Death is the time when all is done and you expect to see the results of your efforts.
Anthony seems to embrace death as the point at which he’ll know the ultimate truth about every unanswered question he currently asks.

Death: the end of life is the end of anxiety, the end of the anguish and torment, the end of the struggles and the tribulations. It’s easy to forget what good you’re losing when you have so much you want to get rid of. Every clean out a garage and just wish you could toss EVERYTHING because tell be so much easier?

Life’s like cleaning a garage, it’s so easy to toss out the good when you’re trying so hard get rid of the bad

Absolutely beautiful song

Change your heart and look around you because if you change your heart and look around it will astound you. Very simple idea.
Apply it to the ones you love and it can change relationships.
You’re not perfect, no one else is perfect, you’re all affecting each other in more ways than one and you don’t even know it.

System of a Down – Chop Suey! Lyrics 6 years ago
It's literally about Jesus and the bible being rewritten and translated into logical absurdity.
The overall moral of the song as that martyrdom is actually just self righteous suicide, the bible makes no sense of it but perpetuates worshiping a martyr anyway and goes in to add demands in threats of eternal punishment- ergo -clearly you're being brainwashed if you believe this shit.

The band members were brought up in the Armenian American societies but were atheists (im 99% sure)

Faith No More – Epic Lyrics 6 years ago
It's sounds like the nonsense of religious claims of the unknowable and ultimately unreachable.
"It" is that thing they all want but can't define, they can't demonstrate it, they can't hold it and show it to you, they can only pretend to know what it is and what its intentions are and it's motives for actions and lack thereof.

It in Christianity is salvation, in Buddhism it's enlightenment, in Hinduism it's the highest caste, in Islam it's just Islam; it's a total solution.
All religions have an It

Twelve Foot Ninja – Point of You Lyrics 6 years ago
The abrahamic deity known as God/Yahweh/Allah is so mighty and important that he's larger than the whole universe and we should worship him appropriately. So when the protagonist's efforts to live in this deity's image falls short despite his best efforts he asks "when will you see the things in you that you found in me?" Ofcourse it's impossible to please a deity by living in its image when this deity is so inconsistent with reality so he was actually living a life of organised mental abuse

I'll better understand the intended meaning in time, but the picture painted for me is of a person who recognises that they're stuck in a war. TFN do a great job simulating a life-or-death event from the point of view of this person.
"I didn't want to single you out" gets to me.

Twelve Foot Ninja – Invincible Lyrics 6 years ago
I love Twelve Foot Ninja, now so for the lyrics.

I get from a lot of their songs that one of the lyrical authors was once strongly involved with a deistic religion; more specifically of the abrahamic variety. Being Aussies, my guess is a sanction of Christianity.
Short of indoctrination, is call it passionate involvement. This person followed the example of Lucifer (the lucid one) by questioning the fundamental teachings, my guess is it started as a yearning to understand and graduated to a struggle for truth behind the most fundamental facts about their own perception of reality.

Unless you've been passionately religious and since then have reasoned yourself away from it, you're going to have trouble comprehending the torment this causes to one who has lost faith in their own understanding of reality.

Invincible demonstrates the nauseating contempt one feels when their trust has been betrayed.

Norman Greenbaum – Spirit In The Sky Lyrics 7 years ago
It's a great song, and whether or not it's religious mockery or mindless praise, it clearly displays the ridiculousness of Christianity's core belief. If it's mockey, it's funny and groovy. If it's legit goddy-goddy, even funnier

Twelve Foot Ninja – Deluge Lyrics 7 years ago
It seems he's seeking resolution by force, as though someone owes him an explanation or is being confronted with a demand to confess with that which has already been found out.

I actually think these guys are former indoctrinated theists, or at least one of them, or even that the religious stronghold has affected the life of one of the members of lyrical influence.

Muse – Thoughts of a Dying Atheist Lyrics 8 years ago
Yep it's another theist positing the demise of the unfaithful.
There's a sickening trend among theists of looking forward to an end, because for the deist, there is no end. In their minds, physical life is a test of faith, eternal divinity is the bees knees, and they seem to splendour in the idea of another suffering for a thought crime.

This has been in my head all day and I love it.
It essentially sounds as though it's about some broad who's either high maintenance or demanding or just plain full of her own shit. She seems to abuse him and take him for granted.

Green Day – Worry Rock Lyrics 9 years ago
Worry rock is my relationship with my fiance. We fight alot and tend to go nowhere.

A knocked down dragged out fight.
Fat lips and open wounds.
Another wasted night and no one will take the fall.

Actually, since i evaluated these lyrics, our fights havent been so bad, ive been alot more rationl with my words (i think, i hope).
Anyway...

Where do we go from here?
And what did you do with the directions?
Promise me no dead end streets
And I'll guarantee we'll have the road.

I've said this to her as a promise, and its something I want in my vows.
That might sound a bit dark for wedding vows but it makes perfect sense to me.
