| Britney Spears – 3 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
There's a few things that need to be addressed. 1. There are TONS of songs out there that are worse. How about Flo Rida's "You Spin Me"? It's been in a lot of movies, it's been on the stations and everything and that's about oral sex, something that's apparently a HUGE issue in the teenage population... 2. Half the children that even listen to this won't understand. Hell, I was 8 and singing "2 Become 1" by the Spice Girls and my mom was like "Holy crap, do you know what you're singing about?" and I really had no idea I was singing about people having sex. 3. There's a radio-edited version of the song where it goes "Living in this is the new thing" not the sin. And seriously people, face the reality and facts. Adultery is EVERYWHERE, sex is EVERYWHERE, pornography, sexually explicit lyrics and graphics are EVERYWHERE. It's not about sheltering your child from this anymore, it's about explaining to your child and taking the time to explain what's going on so they have a better handle on things. 4. Britney Spears is 28 and can write the music she wants. I didn't know, NashPSU, that a song had to have some extremely deep meaning to it. I thought music wasn't only an outlet for emotions, but to just let loose and have fun. I didn't know that music had to be written in dark solitude with such an intense meaning it changes life as we know it. You can't compare South Park to Pop music. They're entirely different things. I'm pretty sure the only crap I've "learned" through South Park is how to make fun of celebrities and all together act like a moron about the media and recent news. Real humanity? Truth in South Park? It's not truth, it's poking fun at every thing they can get their hands on. There isn't "truth" in Spears' song? I'm pretty sure threesomes do occur. I'm pretty sure people ask their partners if they want to. That's humanity for you. |

| Magneta Lane – Secrets Aren't So Bad Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I don't think it's necessarily how "girls think". There are just some things that the person you are with doesn't need to know. Unfortunately, you're caught with the fact you love and trust this person and want to tell them but knowing full well it could ruin much of what is there. For example, trust. Without trust, a relationship can't be built. Hence, nothing could be built from the relationship and it would diminish. It has nothing to do with being a "complicated girl". |

| Josh Groban – To Where You Are Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I feel sorry for Shark Bait XXX. Sadly, they don't understand the concept of talent. Talent doesn't mean doing all the work yourself. Sure, the person who wrote the song is talented. And yes, the person who sings the song is also talented. But when an artist can pick a song and sing it with the emotion I have heard in this song, that becomes art in itself. Is a painter less of a painter because they bought the paint itself and didn't make it themselves? I do realize this comment is four years later then the actual comment, though I wanted to address it. Josh Groban isn't my number one choice in music. Though I heard this song at a horrible time in my life. My father passed away August 2008 and when I heard this song I burst into tears. The emotion, the lyrics themselves, it was everything I was feeling and to hear that, to feel that, and to know that at least someone knew that, was extremely comforting and liberating. To this day, this song makes me cry but I hold it dear, whether or not Josh Groban wrote it. |

| The Meg And Dia Band – Fighting For Nothing Lyrics | 16 years ago |

There is some lines missing just before "I hope they cut you open"....etc. On the album there is anyway. The lyrics are missing: I've got my words, I hope they hurt you, I hope they scar you, I hope they heal you" |

| Stars – One More Night Lyrics | 17 years ago |
As someone said, this is a continuation of "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead". What happens in that song? They end up seeing each other again. What's happening in this song? They're having one more night together (obviously sex is involved). He was never really over it. The girl on the other hand was more than likely the one to break up to break up with him as the lyrics in this song are more about watching his "unmade life" instead of bed and how he's begging her for one more night. They do. And it's like his heart is breaking all over again because she's a tease in the sense of giving him something he'll never have again. He feels used and that everyone will think it's okay because he's a man and isn't supposed to feel so caught up in it. And it's why they can only spend one more night together. She doesn't feel it anymore, he knows that and if he did it again, he'd lose himself. |

| Pink – So What Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It appears only one other person has noticed this. Carey is actually in the video with her. It's obvious this song was made during the rough patch when she and Carey weren't talking. And yet it's blatantly obvious that they've fixed out the kinks and are on friendly terms again. I think that needs to be taken into account with you're looking at the song along with the video. |

| Bright Eyes – If Winter Ends Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Sure, he's singing about a break up. But he's in turn, intertwining that into Alaska. 6 months of sun 6 months without. He's praying for the sun. The darkness, the snow. Etc. |

| Gregory and the Hawk – The Point Sometimes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The ocean I'm assuming is the distance that's beginning to grow between the two of them. With or without a boat is meaning that even though there are things that are bringing them together, they still have a distance to themselves. She's basically asking him to make an effort in the relationship. Because she is a changer and by that she means that she'll break up with him if she really has to. It'd be a big change. Again, another metaphor of distance when it comes to the rock and the gull. The rock cannot do anything but be there. It can't offer the gull any emotional support, any physical support. All it can do is be there and when things start changing (her being a changer thus is subtly brought about) she'll need to leave for there'll be nothing there to make her stay; to let her stay. And yeah. It's basically the distance within a relationship. I feel it's more emotional, but the physicality of distance could be the factor also. |

| Placebo – Because I Want You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The one thing I keep seeing is, "Isn't it 'Because I want you too?'" It isn't. If you listen to Placebo, they aren't necessarily conventional when it comes to love songs. It also helps if you have a clear idea on alcoholism. The first verse is basically his drinking problem. The second verse is telling his partner to not give up on the dream of him stopping drinking and them being happy again. This is where everyone seems to get confused. "Because I want you to" is him saying, "Don't give up on the wanting because I want you to". He wants his partner to stop believing in it and to stop dreaming because he does have a drinking problem and he has no hope that it will go away. The guilt, however, makes him tell his partner to not give up on it because he also wants to be happy again. The rest of the song is pretty obvious after those few verses are discerned. |

| Mayday Parade – I'd Hate to Be You When People Find Out What This Song Is About Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I personally enjoyed Bagpipe_Barrinton42's opinion on the song about their first time. It seems everyone's saying it's about them both being in love, but the title definitely contradicts that theory, doesn't it? If anything, the girl did something either negative, or as posed, lost her virginity. ["and then we'd both go down together" almost made me think they were having sex and the line "And I'm sorry this wasn't easy when I asked you Believe me" implied maybe this was her first time? and then the line "But I'm tongue-tied and terrified of what I'll say" perhaps implies that after all of that, they broke up?] I agree with them wholly, but I do believe it was both of their first time. I think this simply because he seems oddly nervous and scared he might say or do something wrong. "Well, I'm thinking of the worst things That I could say to you But a promise doesn't mean a thing anymore And this never will be right with me And now you're trying to desperately But I'm tongue-tied and terrified of what I'll say" He's not feeling right about this at all, even though it seems he was the one that posed the action. He thinks a promise obviously won't mean a thing and it could be the worst thing to say because, well hey, everyone makes promises and hey, everyone breaks them. "I could only sing you sad songs And you could sing along And you could see the melody That's been calling out your wrongs And this never will be right with me And now you're trying to desperately But I'm tongue-tied and terrified of what I'll say But I never told you everything I'm losing hope and fading dreams And every single memory along the way" Thus continues his dilemma. He couldn't really give her much and she could only give a little less. He's trying to find flaws with her because he doesn't feel like being with her is right anymore. He's doubting the relationship and is losing hope in it. The memories aren't enough to be memories any longer. So, in the end, he lets her go. I believe he thought having sex would save the relationship but it didn't and he couldn't be with her. He didn't feel it. Thus, the title makes more sense. Though, hey, I could be totally wrong. Hehe. |

| Damien Rice – 9 Crimes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I agree with the fact that the, "Is that alright"s are sarcastic. The gun comments, by the way, this is how I've portrayed them to myself. i give my gun away when it's loaded [It's not a gun at all. Her crime, is that she's given her heart away to someone else when it's still beating for somebody else.] if you don't shoot it how am i supposed to hold it? [This, coincides with the first. If he doesn't love her, how is she supposed to give it away to someone else? If he still has her heart, how can she have it to give away?] Once those two lines are deciphered, the song is fairly self-explanitory. |

| Damien Rice – Cannonball Lyrics | 17 years ago |
For me, this song is very "take it as you see it". There isn't that many metaphors to me, it's just knowing what they mean. there's still a little bit of your taste in my mouth there's still a litle bit of you laced with my doubt it's still a little hard to say ..what's going on [They've kissed. He's confused, not sure what to think and that's why she's laced with his doubt. He doesn't know what's going on or if he wants it or if it'll work.] there's still a little bit of your ghost your weakness there's still a little bit of your face I haven't kissed you step a little closer each day and I can't say what's going on [They've gotten closer since. He's kissed her more, they've been together more often. He's remembering her and how she is, how she can be weak. She's becoming closer to him day by day and he still isn't sure how he feels about it. He just keeps going along with it.] stones taught me to fly love, it taught me to lie life, it taught me to die so it's not hard to fall when you float like a cannonball [Stones taught him to fly, so in other words, things that were completely opposite, teached him those things. In a sense, for example, unloving parents can teach their child to be loving, without meaning to. The next two lines are pretty self-explanitory and he's beginning to fall very hard for her. He doesn't believe that means much though, because he's already in the position where anything like what's happening could make him fall. Anyone like her could make him fall in love.] there's still a little bit of your song in my ear there's still a little bit of your words I long to hear you step a little closer to me so close that I cant see what's going on.. [Now she's so close to him, they've become so close he can't step back and look at what's happening. He's fallen too deep now and she's become to close.] love; it taught me to cry so come on courage teach me to be shy cause it's not hard to fall and i dont want to scare her it's not hard to fall and I dont want to lose it's not hard to grow when you know that you just..dont know [The next few lines are also pretty self explanitory. He doesn't want to scare her with how deeply he's fallen for her. Because of this, he's scared he's going to lose her and he knows that he'll grown and learn from this, because you always grow when submersed in something you don't know.] Beautiful song about falling in love without actually saying it. |

| A Fine Frenzy – Lifesize Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"All for love we become Larger than lifesize, wondersome Great in the eyes of someone Larger than lifesize we become Great in the eyes of someone" It's about her falling in love. When you fall in love you become larger than life-size because you end up being someone's world, the someone who sees you as great in their eyes. When you're in love, those people are your entire universe and that's what she means by "larger than lifesize". |

| Okkervil River – A Glow Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'm not sure it's about homicide, to be honest. Someone mentioned Black Sheep Boy, one of their more... prominent albums, it seems. In many of their songs, you hear of how a woman still loves a stone, especially in the Black Sheep Boy album. How she cannot be with the man (singing) because she's still in love with the man that died long ago. She's in love with a head stone and the guy singing just really wants to be with her. Because someone died and she has blood on her, doesn't necessarily mean she's the murderer. He's asking her to come into his arms because she's upset. I'm suspecting this might be the original place where the girl's love dies. But that's just my take. |

| Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I agree with sparkglitterbang. "Where are we? What the hell is going on? The dust has only Just begun to fall Crop circles in the carpet Sinking feeling" Obviously the furniture's been moved out and the furniture had made imprints in the carpet, hence the crop circles. They're wondering where they are because it doesn't look like home anymore. "Spin me 'round again And rub my eyes This can't be happening When busy streets a mess with people Would stop to hold their heads heavy" The child is upset and can't believe it's happening. "Hide and seek Trains and sewing machines All those years They were here first" This is how you know it's a child. Children play hide and seek, they play with trains and those training sewing machines. They're also mentioning how all of those memories, all of those things were there first, before any of this mess started; that's what should matter. "Oily marks appear on walls Where pleasure moments hung before The takeover The sweeping insensitivity Of this Still life" Oily marks are left from the pictures that were on the walls. Again, they mention that it's so insensitive that it can't be happening. "Hide and seek Trains and sewing machines (Oh you won't catch me around here) Blood and tears They were here first" Again, much like the previous chorus, except the "you won't catch me around here". I have two theories on this. One, it's the parent that's divorcing the other, and how the child doesn't believe they'll ever come back for them. Another is that the child has given up on that parent. "Mm what d'ya say? That you only meant well, well, of course you did This, it's all for the best, of course it is That it's just what we need, you decided this What did you say?" A lot of the time in divorce, the parents will always say, "It's for the best" and those sorts of things. What makes me think that the parent is leaving for another person is this part. It reminds me of my father when he divorced my mother and had been cheating on her. He felt no other way and "he only meant well" by trying not to hurt us. "Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth Mid-sweet talk newspaper word cut outs Speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you You don't care a bit" This part always gets me emotionally. The ransom note seems to confuse people, though it's about custody. It's hard for a child to hear parents fight about how much money you're worth a month. The child, in the end, has given up, really. They don't believe the parent leaving that it's better. I can see a lot of my past in this song. Sad. =( |

| Ten Second Epic – Point Blank, Victoria Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Oh. Also the first verse is: Hold on my dear, I thought that it would last the yeras but she is gone and you are here. My love, stay clear, slow down don't replace her, hold emotions back it's just physical. |

| Ten Second Epic – Point Blank, Victoria Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is.... wrong. Hold on my dear, it paces through the underground, but downtown sound is all the rage. My love, stay clear. Warm nights with a torrent flow, hold the floodgates back pierce emotional. The hardest times control the girl... The hardest times control the girl... Tonight, Tonight [you'll be the one tonight] Tonight, Tonight [you'll be the one tonight] [I've lost my love but for now yours is enough.] Tonight, Tonight [you'll be the one tonight] Tonight, Tonight [you'll be the one tonight] (We can't have it all) Honest, intentional. Hold on my dear, we never said that life was fair, [but one night might be all we have] My love, stay clear, [pinned against the wall with my hand in her hair.] The hardest times control the girl... The one [night:], the notion, the verdict, the scar. We hang guilt on our sleeves cause our hearts won't stretch that far. And I know, just how the worst will turn out. But sadly she's not here and sadly she's not present. The one who [left searching for a meaningless replacement] And when we know the truth that we never can admit, we run from our true self and create a lie that fits. You made it right, but you didn't make it better. You made it right, but you didn't make it better. You made it right, but you didn't make it better. You made it right, but you didn't make it better. You made it right, but you didn't make it better. You made it right, but you didn't make it better. [I won't pretend I'm happy with all of this so just let yourself go.] You might as well 'cause it gets worse from here. You made it right, but you didn't make it better. You made it right, but you didn't make it better. You know, you know. You know, you know. |

| The Dresden Dolls – Sing Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Reading, I don't remember quite what it was (it was so long ago), Amanda was once told that she couldn't sing. She obviously doesn't have vocals like all the other made up artists, but she has vocals. I really think this is her actually telling people that yes, she can damn well sing and so can anyone else. Singing doesn't have to have some pre-disposed, "If you can reach and keep this note, you can sing", but that anyone can sing and shouldn't be put down for it. "life is no cabaret we'd don't care what you say we're inviting you anyway" Amanda obviously doesn't care if people think she can't sing and she's still inviting them to listen to her and such. Different from their usual stuff. It's pretty inspirational, but amazing nonetheless. |
| The Dresden Dolls – Me and the Minibar Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I really don't think it's about her murdering someone, especially her lover. Really, it's a little too far-fetched, even for Amanda, I think. "I was so excited to do such normal things with you when you left last night with your toothbrush dry no such details will spoil my plan that is the kind of girl I am" I think it's pretty obvious in this part of the song. I really think it's about a lover that's in a band (or even a job that makes him travel?) and he had to leave, simply enough. She's continuing to say it won't ruin her plans. She'll continue to do what she had planned. As I'm sure, drinking and sex was on that list, they'd "vomit and run" to see such a state of a woman, drunk and more than likely masturbating. I really also don't think it's her birthday. I'd say more of an anniversary, considering the plural use in, "Happy Birthday us." |
| The Dresden Dolls – Mrs. O. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I really do think, Mrs. O is Virginia. "no winter and no santa clause and yes virginia all because." The entire song she's singing to Mrs. O, and then all of a sudden, she incorporates Virginia. I don't think that's just a mere interjection, but another one of Amanda's amazing play with words. |

| Aqualung – The Lake Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I love how the chorus is so slow. It really gives that "haunting" feeling. |

| Marilyn Manson – They Said That Hell's Not Hot Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I can't really get over the, "I’m waiting Like a glass balloon And I’m fading Into the void and then I’m gone, I’m gone, I’m gone…". The emotion put into it is... wow. I think it's hurt, by the way. I've noticed that the lyricsi n the booklets don't always match the songs sung. |
| The Dresden Dolls – Glass Slipper Lyrics | 18 years ago |
All very good points. I think it's about modern society. For instance, "no one's asking to go dancing its not like that anymore its romantic if they mean it when they shut your fingers in the door". It's hard to actually dechipher the entire song, and yes, it does sound like the Cinderella story. But it seems to me that one of the sister's got it. Weren't their feet too big for the previous slipper? Anyway, I was only mentioning that at a point of interest I have. For me, the entire song is her literally and metaphorically in parts, just pushing everyone away and as I read up in another comment, that she's been hurt so many times, she's just aniticipating him to realize she "isn't the right fit." |
| Stars – Time Can Never Kill the True Heart Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's about young love. Whether it be male or female (I prefer it more as the female singing this), they begin dating. The sea wall, I think, is just a metaphor for how it is in the beginning. "Hold my hand so you don't fall". They begin to get serious and she lets him take her home. The lines, "We'll touch 'til it feels right You won't say "love" but I might" simply tell that they have sex for the first time and she already has a feeling that he doesn't love her as much as she does, hence why she says she might say it, but he won't. The end, really, is the break up. He has her for sex and then he leaves her. There's still one heart, both of theirs but two different thoughts. One, of the innocent who was heart broken, and the other who hurt them. I also think the meadow is again, just a nice metaphor to end the song. It started with the sea, and ended in a meadow. "I hope I die in the arms of a child In a meadow where the thistles grow wild" I don't think it's any reference to some sort of religion or anything. I think it's kind of, a more beautiful way to say, "I just wish I could die". Obviously it's got to hurt. |

| Okkervil River – The Latest Toughs Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"We have lost, and if you’re crying to be tossed they’ll toss you down the oubliette with all the old things that you let yourself forget because you’d like to love a star who’d throw you down below the ground he thinks you are." It follows Okkervil River's themes in their albums. It kind of referrences "A Stone" with the emotions that are being shown through this song, especially in the last lines. |

| Pink – Who Knew Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Honestly, in the beginning, I thought this song was about a broken relationship, considering how it sounds in the beginning. But this last verse\bridge definitely makes me change my mind. "That last kiss I'll cherish Until we meet again And time makes It harder I wish I could remember But I keep Your memory You visit me in my sleep" He's dead. It's quite obvious considering the lines, "You visit me in my sleep." It could be argued that she dreams of him, but she's trying to keep his memory and is waiting to "meet him again." If he were still alive, I don't think it'd be worded the way it is. Regardless, it's a heart wrenching song. |
| Mayday Parade – One Man Drinking Games Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I agree that it's about his girlfriend dying. Though I think she has died by the end. It's because, "heres too for being unaware, that your gone because before too long you'll be a memory" He's unaware she's gone, because he's in shock. He's obviously drunk himself into a stupor and she's gone and so he's unaware she's gone because of the alcohol. Once he sobers up though, she'll just be a memory and he doesn't want that. |
| Hawthorne Heights – Decembers Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think poserboarder has got it right, a little. It's obviously a story. "You don't have to cover up how you feel when your in love" The covering up, I do believe, is from the parents who don't approve of their relationship. "I miss you so much, a self inflicted coma The days drag on I never thought of running with their feet" At this point, he's thinking of breaking it off with her, simply because of all the things coming between them, hence the "running with their feet". "Please slow down girl We're moving way to fast for their world We gotta make this last I know it hurts to feel so alone I'm by myself, more then you can know" At this point, I think the girl wants to do things that he simply isn't ready for. Sex, maybe? To, in the end, get back at her parents? Which is why he thinks they're moving too fast for "their" world. They got into a fight, I think, and thus, she's feeling more alone, and he's beside himself. He doesn't know what to do. To stay with her, or leave her. Anyway, that's my take on it. Regardless, it's a beautiful song. |

| Slipknot – Vermilion Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'm not a big Slipknot fan, I just love the song. I won't offer any interpretation, but just so you guys know. By Dahlia, I do believe he is referencing the Dalia murder in between the 40-60s. She was a woman that wanted to be an actress really bad and later, the cops found her disembodied and raped in a ditch. Just some food for thought. [You might know this from the adaption of the film, The Black Dahlia.] |
