| Neurosis – The Eye Of Every Storm Lyrics

I'm amazed nobody else has commented this amazing song; it is my favorite song of all time with some of the best lyrics ever. For me, it is about death, the "eye of every storm" being the peace we find in death, and the storm itself being the chaos and stress of life. When I die, I want "Time will bring me home to the eye of every storm" on my tombstone. |

I think this song is from the view of someone whose view of religion clouds a realistic view of the world, causing them to be judgmental and not seeing the value in certain people's great achievements, like Einstein, Shakespeare, Charlie Parker, etc. They miss the real glory and beauty of people on Earth in being so focused on the afterlife, and they take every blessing they receive on Earth for granted, not realizing that they are already in heaven. |

I know the lyrics aren't complete; I couldn't make out a lot of the heavier parts. I did the best I could with the rest, though. Enjoy. |

| Björk – Declare Independence Lyrics

I don't think anybody here is wrong... she probably meant it for both those things but I also think this song was written purposely with a very general spirit of independence and rebellion. Because of the generality of the song, I think Bjork meant it to have many meanings and be interpreted based on people's lives. Everyone's lives have conflict, and Bjork is saying, no matter who she's writing this for, "If you don't like it, get away and do something about it!" She is telling us to declare independence from those things in our lives which are giving us injustice, whether it be an abusive spouse, a tyrannical government, or whatever it may be. While the song may have been written for a particular instance of injustice and rebellion against it, I think it holds true to almost any form of this situation and is easily applicable. |

| KMFDM – Sucks Lyrics

In response to Alieno, this may not be the most intelligent song, but I don't think it's meant to be. I think it's meant to be kind of simplistic and even a little stupid. After all, they are poking a lot of fun at themselves in this song, and what better way to do it than by writing a song that's very easy to make fun of? You could spend all day wishing for intelligent lyrics, but if they had given you that, it wouldn't suck, and the whole point of the song was to suck and make a little fun of themselves. At the same time, though, they almost come off as arrogant in this song: "We're KMFDM and all other bands stink". That adds a whole new dimension of comedy to the whole thing, like they're proud of sucking or something. I respect a band that can laugh at themselves like KMFDM can, and Sucks is a hilarious song. The bottom line: without the simplicity and stupidity of the rhymes and lyrics, the song wouldn't be half as good. |

Why is this up here? It's not their song, and they don't cover it either. They just play it as an introduction to their shows. This is actually a theme to a movie of the same name. The song is actually by Ennio Morricone. I'll admit, though, I do think it's pretty awesome how they start all their shows with it... still it does not belong here. |

| Isis – Life Under The Swatter Lyrics
|
I think Isis here is using mosquitoes as a symbol for mankind and society. Just look at how he uses "mosquito control" and "population control" almost interchangeably. War, genocide, etc. are the "mosquito controls" in the human world. We live under the swatter, ready to be snuffed at any point by those who control our populations. It uses a lot of mosquito imagery but personifies mosquitoes by giving them a voice, skin, a tongue, furthering the comparison to people. The whole "Suck me dry/Bleed me dry" thing refers to man as a parasite, sucking the life out of one another for a survival-of-the-fittest lifestyle.
Then again, I could be wrong. |
