| Arg, people, please check before you write in that the lyrics are wrong. The lyrics are correct: "witchhunt for another girl" and "your trust." It's in the liner notes. | |

Oh, and I think the song is inspired by Shelley's ode "To a Skylark," which is quoted in the sleeve of the Wish album. The poem and the song are both about marveling at the beauty and carefree joy of another. The connection between the song and poem is more thematic than lyrical, but there are hints. The word "sky" in the first line of the song evokes the title of the poem, and the title of the song evokes the second stanza of Shelley's poem: Higher still and higher From the earth thou springest, Like a cloud of fire; The blue deep thou wingest, And singing still dost soar, and soaring ever singest. Google the poem and read it slowly; you will see how the sentiment of the poem inspired the song. |

| The lyrics are correct ("witchhunt" and "your trust"). | |

| This song is a perfect one-two punch with "Give Me It." The two sides of heroine addiction.... | |

| RS likes to point out the original is a rip-off of The Kinks. | |

| Not sure I follow you, Hello Image, but I remember reading that the music for this song was basically written by Simon. | |
| The Cure – I'm Cold Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| OP is referring to background vocals by Siouxsie. You can hear them at 1:07 and 2:07 and the very end of the track. You are confused because they do not sound like sounds from a human being. Scary! | |

| Yes, the version on The Walk is better. Not available anywhere on CD, as far as I know. | |
| The Cure – Lament Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This is one of my favorit Cure songs. So sad, concise. In Join the Dots, RS talks about recording the first (Flexipop) version, shortly after the band had come to blows and pasrted ways in the midst of the Pornography tour: "Convinced that they would never play again, Robert disappeared to the Lake District leaving no forwarding address. On his return, several weeks later, Flexipop magazine asked The Cure to write a track for its cover-mounted flexi-disk, and Robert was faced with the dilemma of of either doing it himslef or admitting publicly that the band was no more. Prudently, he chose option number one and put together a song called Lament, using his trusty old Top 20 guitar. Although credited to The Cure, the contributors are in fact Robert Smith and Steve Severin. To the best of Smith's recollection, "I wrote the guitar and bass parts, then we booked the Garden Studio, London. I phoned Severin up and said, 'Get some stuff, we're going to record a song.' I went along with my Top 20, a bass, a drum machine and two wooden flutes. Severin was nominally the producer, but but actually spent most of the session gripping the edge of the mixing desk and laughing as I staggered in and out of the control room asking, "What was that like?"The volume of the high-hat in the mix, the wild 'fish-panning' and the dubious coherence of the vocals are a bit of a give-away as to our states of mind...." RS goes to describe the re-worked Lament as his favorite track from the Steve Nye-produced The Walk / Japanese Whispers EP. (BTW, I've always suspected that the title Japanese Whispers a ref to the Davis Sylvian's band Japan--can anyone confirm/deny?) |

I'm with twilight 2007. This is simply about all the silly games and posing of people who want to sex with each other. "wait until three (or six)" is a boast. But these two have been together before, and perhaps they are afraid to admit there could be some more vulnerable, emotional aspect to their relationship. I don't know who played the bass, but it is certainly very odd. The bass line features more prominently on the Milk Mix (from the "Close to Me" remix single?)--worth checking out. |

| What was that, jancsibohoc? I couldn't quite hear you. Yes, growing old. | |
| The Cure – The Big Hand Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I always thought the "big hand" was fame (applause) and all that came with it. This was supposed to be on the Wish album--that's why there's a big hand on the cover--but Robert didn't like it as much as Porl and Simon did. Too bad. |

Dizzy dizzy dizzy As I speak Like a tumbling cat Last line ^ should be: Like the tumbling head I love the abstract lyrical style from this era. Several of the images from this b-side were recycled into later songs (eg. vampire bat in "Torture"). |

| I really miss this style of writing found on the earlier albums, and especially the b-sides. The lyrics on the last few albums have become more bloated, formulaic, and literal. | |

| The Cure – Labyrinth Lyrics | 18 years ago |

A song about change. The lyrics refer back to an image from the song "Push": Exactly the same clean room Exactly the same clean bed But I've stayed away too long this time And I've got too big to fit this time... |
