Sodom – Ausgebombt Lyrics 17 years ago
I love this song, so much. Excellent, fun, thrashing goodness! And yeah, it's basically about war (WWII in Germany, like Mortislegion said, makes sense), as the entire Agent Orange album is about was (Vietnam in particular). However, I could never work out what the hell "Ausgebombt" really was. :P

Exodus – Piranha Lyrics 17 years ago
This song rules. I wouldn't try and look very far into Exodus' lyrics, you're not going to find much. This song is simply about a school of piranhas eatin' some poor bastard. Thrash is largely based around violence and fury and bands would just write about stuff in that vein, because that's what the scene was calling for. So, don't really put that much thought into the lyrics; just sit back and enjoy the riffs.

Slayer – Mandatory Suicide Lyrics 18 years ago
I feel it is about conscription. Mandatory suicide. You have to go to war, you have to commit suicide. For those who don't know, conscription is where you have to sign up for war if your of a certain age, usually 18 or 21. So yeah, basically anti-war. That's my interpretation anyway.

Kalmah – Human Fates Lyrics 18 years ago
I think that the "Use of education" bit is about how we shouldn't rely completely on education for teaching people about the dangers of addiction (in this case alcohol) and how you can waste your life away at its hands. "Now it is time to look in the mirror" I feel means that we should, not so much look at ourselves personally, unless you are an alcoholic, but ourselves and those around us. We need to look at people in general and see that addiction is dangerous, not rely on other people telling us.

Rihanna – Umbrella Lyrics 18 years ago
A bit over a week ago, I made this comment,

"I'm sorry. I guess its ok if you listen to this and like it, but I would like to know what you people hear in this music. I'm not trying to come off like a jerk, but I am to some degree offended that people can get so far on so little. There are so many "musicians" today who, if they didn't look good, would get nowhere. Their voices are pretty much computer generated. They sing something no matter how bad and a computer will do the rest. I mean, Rhianna didn't even write this song. I was watching live earth and Rhianna come on. She had somebody sing most of her song for her, and when she did sing, it was terrible. If you can't sing a song the same that it was recorded, don't sing it at all. And pretty much every pop song I here are about relationships, or sex. Relationship songs are nice, but not for every song you sing. Why not sing something important, like an anti-war song, anti-drugs, some sort of social commentary or something that informs the audience. Songs like "candy man" absolutely disgust me. Children listen to that song, and I can only hope to God that they don't understand the lyrics. I could rant on for a while, so I'm going to stop myself, but please answer my question, "What is so appealing about music that is musically basic, vocally artificial and driven only by looks?". What I have said may be pretty harsh, but I would like answers. Go ahead, prove me wrong."

So far, nobody has answered me. I will say that it was Shakira I seen at Live Earth, with guest Gustavo Cerati. The "guest" did most of the singing, while Shakira just danced, which is kind of strange considering that a singer usually sings when they perform. Although, my mistake has just put more evidence on my side. Shakira can't sing and Rhianna can't write. It seems that all you have to do to write a good pop song is look good and repeat the title of the song as many times as needed to drive somebody insane.

Maybe you people can't be bothered reading my comments, so I'll shorten it;

WHY IS POP SO GREAT?

I heard that it was about talking to racists. Makes sense if you read through the lyrics.

Metallica – Damage, Inc. Lyrics 18 years ago
FRYEGUY, did all that really happen to you? If so, holy crap, seriously, that sucks something fierce. Well, you know what they say, shit happens. You just gotta learn how to deal with it, or you'll never get anywhere in life. Everyone should keep that in mind. As for the song, it reminds me in a way of the unforgiven. In the unforgiven its talking about some guy that conformed to trends and wasn't himself. He ends up regretting that and dubs himself unforgiven. This song is about how we should be ourselves and not conform even if people give you a hard time. The lines;
"Living on your knees, conformity
or dying on your feet for honesty" and
"Following our instinct not a trend
go against the grain until the end" best support my theory. Everyones entitled to their own opinion and that is mine. Overall, its a great song. Thats the important thing.

Metallica – Fade To Black Lyrics 18 years ago
Just want to make this clear. If my sources are correct (wikipedia) :P, which it usually is, the amp stolen was no ordinary amp. It was given to James by his mother shortly before she died. Besides it being special that way, it was also very rare. Also the song is obviously about someone who has decided to kill himself, and what he is thinking before he does it. I feel I have to say this; Metallica didn't sell out. To say so is insulting. Just because they changed their music style doesn't mean they sold out. Also if they did sell out, wouldn't they have recorded something that people would have liked and not something that apparently everybody hates, eg Load and Reload. Half of their albums are thrash metal, isn't that enough. Just because a lot of people can listen to thrash metal for years and years, and enjoy it, doesn't mean Metallica won't get bored with it after years of writing and recording it. I'm not saying that their new stuff is better than their old stuff but lay off em. Metallica rule and if you think they sold out, fine, but don't go round saying it and tarnishing their rep. They don't deserve it. I'm not trying to target or abuse anyone, everyones entitled to their own opinion, I'm just saying what I feel needs to be said. If you don't like their new stuff, just don't listen to it.

The Offspring – Come Out And Play Lyrics 18 years ago
Definitely about gang violence. There are possible references to racial gangs in the line "If one guy's colors and the other's don't mix", although this could be a reference to different gang colours like the bloods (red) and crips (blue). Great song with great lyrics. One off the offspring's best.

Metallica – Enter Sandman Lyrics 18 years ago
The songs about fear. How we create it ourselves and how we cope with it, "We're off to never never land".
"Grain of sand", I feel means that all fear comes from one small, piece of doubt or anxiety in th back of our minds. The sandman is a metaphor for fear. That's my opinion. I also don't think that it is about drugs. Master of Puppets is about drugs. I've heard that St. Anger is about alcohol, which interestingly enough was written about the same time James went to rehab for it. I can understand how some people think that some songs are about drugs when they aren't, eg, this one. I'm sure if you tried hard enough you could make a link between mary had a little lamb and drugs, eg, the lamb represents addiction and follows mary everywhere she goes. Fact of the matter is that Metallica rarely write about drugs. And capricorn and all those who share his opinion, there's no need for the hate. You don't have to like the band, but you don't have to say that about them or their fans (which includes me). This song rules. If you don't like it, just don't listen to it.

Metallica – Seek & Destroy Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with the whole defending metal theme.
Metal, overall is probably the least recognised and respected genre of music, but it damn well deserves some. Slow cheetah is an example of who this song is aimed at. People who are to closed minded to see metal for what it is. Metallica write great lyrics, that have some powerful meaning behind them. I mean, look at todays music. Someone give me a pop song that isn't about how good the singer looks or how their ex-lover dumped them. I'm sure that if Metallica wrote this song, than their is meaning behind it. This song rules, metal rules, and if you can't handle it, just don't listen to it.
