these aren't the right lyrics... for one thing it's "lost like ALICE", as in Alice in Wonderland.
and for another, this person completely skipped the beginning. |

well, "sOck ninja", i have a message that i would like to give you for saying that. i however, will refrain. i don't believe that you are reading the lyrics. it is hardly generic. i believe that this song is about a sort of Utopia.. "everybody's happy/everybody's free/if you don't get in line/we'll lock you away" or even a distopia because of that line; in a Utopia, it is wanted that everyone to be the same and have no diversity. but i think dave was trying to say that it's okay to break out of that.. you don't have to be the same. |

well, according to someone that i know, the candyman part is about a coke dealer. coke makes you lose weight and when you have a loose end on the end of a joint, you cut the end. "...cutting the corners, loose end, loose end, cut, cut." |

p.s. one more thing that i neglected to say: i absolutely LOVE this song. i adore dave matthews band! this is probably the best song ever written, and the band's best versions are live at central park, and dave solo w/ tim reynolds live at luther college. it would be awesome if the band and tim played this song together with tim's little solo. and, there is absolutely no comparison between their live and studio versions of songs. i love the way they just jam for several minutes at a time. :] |

even though i believe that songs can be interpreted in many ways, and mean DIFFERENT THINGS TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE, i, personally, believe that this song is describing how we as humans go through life so fast that we don't really notice the little things, like the "ants marching". He's pointing out that we keep our routines to "keep rolling thru life", thus, "he never changes a thing/ the week ends, the week begins." Do not be afraid to interpret it any way that you want!! it probably means something different to you. this is what it means to me. |
