ha when my mum first heard this she said: "oh, pearl jam has a new song??" and ever since i ican't halp but see how similar daniel's voice is..in this song ,anyway he was younger than 16 when he wrote this, it's not as deep as most of you seem to think. he even said himself that frogstomp was about giving the audience what they wanted to here; it was more about the sound than meaning behind...there was a great documentry on the whole life of the band, and as they describe what each albumn was about and their attitudes at the time, etc etc.. |

its a good first single of there new album, taking into account brand new singer Danny, so i guess the whole dynamics of the band have changed considering i was such a huge fan of Christian, the passion isnt really there in this one, but im sure it'll grow on me. |

yes its a pretty straight foward song, though the way the story is told is clever though the way he manipulated rhyme and structure so lyrics arent just a boring recount: "levitation ain't your only friend" - levitation being the high from the drug.. "my appetite ain't got no heart" - he's so deeply addicted that he doesn't know why he does it anymore, his appetite for the drug is a natural occurance.. etc etc |

i think thw whole devil vs boy thing is a good interpretation, but it might not be as deep as that. i always listen to a song a few times before i read the lyrics, and to me i think it sounds a little more light-hearted. the overall theme seems to me like someone is encouraging him to make the most out of his life, and go persue his dreams, because where he's at doesn't hold much promise and to hurry up and go see the world before its too late, i.e. "this town was meant for passing through" - you shouldn't plan to stay here "Run for the hills before they burn" - go while you have the chance "you always hold your head up high.. cause it's a long, long long way down.." - you're scared to face your future and possible setbacks. i dont know how well that fits into the rest of the song, but thats just what i got out of it. |
