| The King Blues – What If Punk Never Happened Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Epic Song. We need to wake up people because the life he is describing is happening now. It’s no alternative reality. Apathy, Adverts, CCTV, No Community, and a life that no one cares about. 'It's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas' We Must Unite. http://thezeitgeistmovement.com/ |
|
| Muse – United States of Eurasia/Collateral Damage Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Basically We Must Unite. As long as we have divided countries at war we will never progress so we must have a United States of Eurasia. | |
| A-Ha – Soft Rains Of April Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| A common theme on Scoundrel Days is the band writing about leaving loved ones when they left for England to progress the band. I think Pal had a girlfriend back in Norway and many of the songs are about leaving her. This is basically about phoning home, getting no answer and being homesick. | |
| The Rolling Stones – Let It Bleed Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Come on, read the lyrics. It's about Mick being high on coke and shagging his bird when she has her bad week. | |
| Jesus Jones – Move Mountains Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| About being in a taxi with loads of religious paraphernalia and realising you are never going to make your mark on the world like Jesus did. | |
| James – Bubbles Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this is about being in a relationship but being alcohol/drunk dependant and being rescued by your partner and realising that there is so much more –‘ showing signs of a life that is so much better’, the closing two verses about being redeemed and addiction free. | |
| Funeral for a Friend – Walk Away Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Jennyvean8 has it right when you take it in the concept of the album. I think this is from the point of the fisherman's wife while he is lost at sea. 'The waiting is the hardest thing to take' and he is telling her 'If you have to let it go' then do. Don't wait for me. Epic. | |
| Kids in Glass Houses – Shameless Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Probably about some skanky bird that he went out with. The lines about 'waited all night for you' probably refer to her parents. | |
| Alanis Morissette – Not All Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| suha has it bang on. | |
| Alanis Morissette – Narcissus Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I was like this once until finally my wife 'called me on it'. And finally woke up to myself. |
|
| U2 – Bad Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I've always thought the song could be about pain as well as heroin. | |
| James Blunt – 1973 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| 1973 is the name of the club. | |
| Paramore – Brighter Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The thing is when you are 16 you actually believe that this is the how you will feel forever more. Broken and in tatters from a teenage love. | |
| Paolo Nutini – Rewind Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
butterflies12345 It can also relate to the here and now of someone who may be with a partner and feel the same way. |
|
| Jesus Jones – Who? Where? Why? Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
The title says it all. Could be about real life or a drug induced trip. Ambiguous. Remember those moments when you were looking at your hands? Who am I? |
|
| Enter Shikari – Jonny Sniper Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Is this not about being too caught up in ourselves to realise the Planet is dying? Feckin’ great song. And better than the Album version. | |
| George Michael – Praying For Time Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is a great song. The lyrics are every bit as relevant today as they were nearly 20 years ago. | |
| U2 – Bad Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this song is about being a junkie and specifically about the Heroin which was rampant in the 80's and the pain it causes particularly for the users. It expresses the guilt and the despair for being an addict. It could also be about Pain in general. | |
| Billy Joel – Piano Man Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
alhsbm87 I was enjoying your post, which was put forward very eloquently, up until the point you referred to me as a dick. I don't deny that the song could be interpreted as you choose to. I just don't believe that Billy Joel, when he wrote the song, intended the undertones that you perceive within it regardless of whether you are gay or not. |
|
| Billy Joel – Piano Man Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
There’s a few folk on here got it right. This song is about unfulfilled potential. John, that could be a movie star Paul, the Real Estate agent, who wants to be a novelist Davy, who’s still in the navy, and will be for life The Waitress, who is practicing politics and the Piano Man. Man, you're great, what are you doing here? A song about all the people who could excel but are stuck in shit jobs but should be someplace better if only circumstance would come together for them. Great Song. Why is it that gay people always want to hijack songs and make them relate to gay people? |

| A-Ha – Scoundrel Days Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think sailorrepublica has it right, This song is about being totally screwed up with life and commiting suicide. 'I'm Heading out for those steep hills, There leaving me no choice'. One of A-ha's all time best tracks. |

| Damien Rice – Delicate Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think this song is about two people having an affair and one feels stronger about it than the other. "When nobody's watching I might take you home" suggests that they are sneaking off together. They're not "scared" because they are caught up in the situation but it's "delicate" as they have others in their lives so it's delicate situation. The one that feels more is asking the other why they continue to "fill my sorrow" by saying nice or flattering things to them and giving them hope when they probably won't leave their partner. I think the hallelujah bit refers to them having sex and the relief at the climax and the other is asking why do you keep doing this with me if it doesn't mean anything to you. "We might live like never before" is the one that feels more asking the other to give it a chance as to be together might be so much better than their lives at present but the other has made is clear that they can't give anymore than the way the relationship is so "how can we ask for more". How can one ask to get more commitment and how can the other keep asking for more physically without the commitment. But the one who feels more gives in and they make love again in a place that has become "sacred" to them. "The look on your face is delicate", delicate comes from the latin delicatus which means affording pleasure so their look says it all. Fantastic song!!!!!!!!! |

| The Killers – This River Is Wild Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| A Father's words to his son. | |
| The Smiths – Shoplifters of the World Unite Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Lilikoi has it right. This is about intellectual shoplifting and taking other people's ideas as your own. | |
| The Smiths – How Soon Is Now? Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I reckon this is a son's message to an alcoholic, critical father. ‘I am the Son and the Heir’.... to absolutely nothing and the next verse goes on to question how the Father has the right to criticise when they have done nothing in their life. ‘There's a club if you'd like to go’ ...... substitute pub for club. Sad song really. |

| James – Out to Get You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I used to listen to this a lot when I was stoned and paranoid and the lyrics would ring very true to me. | |
| Will Young – Leave Right Now Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this is about unrequited love and how you keep spending time in that someone’s company even though it causes you pain because they don’t want you. | |
| Will Young – Who Am I Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
On a purely personal level I relate to this song about my wife. I just feel like... And who am I to tell you that I would never let you down? That no-one else could love you half as much as I do now And who am I to tell you I'll always catch you when you fall? Well I, I wouldn't be myself at all I wouldn't be myself at all, at all. If I told her that then 'I wouldn't be myself at all.' but the lyrics express how I truly feel. |
|
| U2 – Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
It's about your Father and being estranged/unable to communicate with him. Unfortunately for Bono it was too late and his Father was dead before he got to say what he truly felt. A lesson for us all to say what we feel before it is too late. Such a great song. |
|
| U2 – Some Days Are Better Than Others Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think eirenightshade gets it right. Some days are BETTER than others BUT we also have control over each day and each of us indivdually can, each day, choose to make it better, | |
| U2 – Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is about walking home drunk. | |
| U2 – Mysterious Ways Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Where do you people get all these religious connections. "I have cursed thy rod and staff, they no longer comfort me." - Love Rescue Me |
