Mumford & Sons – Below My Feet Lyrics 13 years ago
I had been hearing "keep my eyes discerned, my hands to learn." though I fully accept the alternative as well.

The phrase in itself is rather confusing...

Ellie Goulding – Lights Lyrics 14 years ago
This is solid, love your heart for the Lord. I'm with you, but it is honestly hard to hear something that I emotionally connect w and not relate it with the most incredible connection I have which it to God though my King and Redeemer Jesus. Keep rocking.

Lights – Cactus In The Valley Lyrics 14 years ago
So I've only listened to this song a couple of times, but it came on when I was doing some reading, well prepping to do some reading and it really stuck out.

This song is clear and outstanding, first of all. And Lights is incredibly talented, I am grateful she is making music. She does an excellent job combining melody, a sweet tech sound, her smooth voice accents the hard/digital sounds she tends to so well and she is very transparent with her lyrics. And her writing doesn't suck. It a whole lot of awesome in a digital Canadian pixie. Secondly, and more to the point, I feel this song about her relationship with the God, there are a lot of Christian, new testament references. Pointing a lot to Christ saying he is the true vine, and those who are not connected wither and die. ("I never meant to wither" + "And watched my branches fall" + John 15:1-15). Also the recognition of something wrong and the hope that she is not forgotten because of what she has done (The Chorus) which lines with Jesus making everything new (2 Corinthians 5:17). She makes a reference to the storm finally coming (Matt 7:24-27). And finally she sings about unending tears (which is heartbreaking) (Isaiah 25:8 + Revelations 21:4).

I pray that I am wrong, because this song sounds like she is having a hard time. But given my finite-ness, only a bit of information and no perception of Lights motive/heart in writing, this is of course opinion. But it has encouraged me to pray for the broken hearted. Also, not to sound preachy, but if you are feeling broken hearted, you've had a tough relationship with God or you feel you're too dirty to come back to God...I just really want to encourage you to come home. Jesus cleans us of all sin, and he desperately wants to see you again. He remade my heart, he can do yours too. Love you guys.

U2 – I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For Lyrics 14 years ago
This is the tangible representation of sin in Proverbs, a man who's tempted by a whore (vulgar but true) who's husband is out of town.

[3] For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey,
and her speech is smoother than oil,
[4] but in the end she is bitter as wormwood,
sharp as a two-edged sword.
[5] Her feet go down to death;
her steps follow the path to Sheol;
[6] she does not ponder the path of life;
her ways wander, and she does not know it.
(Proverbs 5:3-6 ESV)

It presents the ever present difficulty of struggling with a tangible, but pleasurable sin and not turning to Christ. Bono does an awesome job of explain his satisfaction and belief in the freedom of the cross, but the intense pull and desire to love worldly things. In the end, it's also a good representation of his sanctification, in him coming so far since his own personal salvation, but still not finding what he (or his heart) is looking for. Which can only be filled by an eternal God.

[11] He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

I hope that helped.
(Ecclesiastes 3:11 ESV)

The Used – The Bird and the Worm Lyrics 18 years ago
The more I listen to it, the more I feel it is about domestic violence from the abusee's point of view. "The Stranger's looks" could possibly be the public seeing the abusee's bruises and marks. He hangs on to his backpack as a focus of escape (his heart). When he sings about someone being "out of their mind" and "terrified of what's inside" it may be of the abuser and how he never knows what to expect from him/her. "To save his life, he Crawls like a worm" reminds me of escaping to dark place, like a closet. "All alone," in the closet, "He turns to stone," holds as still as possible, "holding his breath half to death," trying not to breathe to not be found. When he arives at home, the abuser remind him he is all alone (the deep, terrifying voice in the background).

The Used – The Bird and the Worm Lyrics 18 years ago
I completely agree. This song made me very excited about the new album. The amount of growth makes me absolutly extatic. I feel like a child.
As for a meaning, I feel that the songs is about being afraid of life or one's self and trying to excape it. But how can you? It is overwhelming and omnificent, there is no escape. Like a bird to a worm...
