Angus and Julia Stone – Just A Boy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This is my favorite song by them. I totally agree with you guys, this band is awesome, and selfish as it is I don't want them to go mainstream either. This song sums up a crush so perfectly. |
Angus and Julia Stone – Just A Boy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
No way, I get it - right on dude I know that feeling |
Big D and the Kids Table – Fluent In Stroll Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Hells yeah, just do what you like and find connections! |
Big D and the Kids Table – Not Fucking Around Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Women! Haha. This is great. |
Big D and the Kids Table – Describing the Sky Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Boo Ya! Lift your partner up! |
Talking Heads – Genius of Love Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Talking heads does a version too. I have no idea what this song is about! |
Wilco – In a Future Age Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think thats right on couldBanyone. I also think the final stanza is telling us to rise above the b.s. of the American dream and the typical suburban life. Great album. |
Broken Social Scene – Swimmers Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Think about a guy with a swimming cap (like the ones racers wear), kind of phallic. Maybe it's a stretch but it does make sense! This might be my favorite BSS song (not because of the possibility of innuendo). |
Broken Social Scene – Love And Mathematics Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It's sweet that there are so many comments for an instrumental. I think the title, especially with no lyrics in the song, is cool. Love and mathematics are two things very prevalent in our lives that aren't often compared/contrasted. I really like the comments for this song. |
Supertramp – Take The Long Way Home Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Yeah! Taking the long way home is both literal and figurative. In the figurative sense, if you don't take the long way home and appreciate life, you'll end up with a dead end life like this guy. In the literal sense, this guy already has a dead end life, so he takes the long way home every night and just looks around at the world. Home is both an actual house and figuratively the point in life when you settle down. |
O.A.R. – Missing Pieces Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Exactly. At the same time you're still really drunk though haha. We've all been here I guess. |
Bedouin Soundclash – Santa Monica Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree with you guys. I wonder if it has to do with like the invasion of like british music or something. I guess that's pretty farfetched but I was just thinking the revolution line is reminiscent of the Beatles, plus the whole british army thing. Such an epic song, I wish we knew what it was about! |
Thievery Corporation – Un Simple Historie (A Simple Story) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Here's a google translation: Color of life, color of joy O are your tears, all your words And since thee sick of seeing All people suffer This concept too simple and nave Achieving overcome a law Law invisible, so unfair So unfair, so dark Live your life, it is so beautiful Live your life, it's yours Live your life without lies Live your life as you want Color of life, color of joy O is the philosophical fire Your mind condens, pulveris Subtil by all your tears Live your life, it is so beautiful Live your life, it's yours Live your life without lies Live your life as you want Live your life, it is so beautiful Live your life, it's yours Live your life without lies Live your life as you want |
Architecture in Helsinki – It'5! Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is very similar to The Great Gatsby. There's the two couples (4) + Gatsby who's trying to steal Daisy (make 2). Then Daisy decides to stay with Tom, and Gatsby laments since she decided Tom's her spouse. |
Fatboy Slim – Put It Back Together Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Hah I was thinking meth. I think any could be right. |
Frank Zappa – Cosmik Debris Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love this song. I think it's about the guru's but I don't think it couldn't be about drugs. I don't understand the meat joke though. I kind of get it but I don't think I really get it, especially the later butcher reference. |
Neil Young – The Painter Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I really like "I keep my friends eternally. We leave our tracks in the sound. Some of them are with me now. Some of them can't be found." Particularly the part about leaving tracks in sound - I think thats his way of saying that his songs are made of memories of friends. I think he's lamenting the loss of his friend, a painter, who died early overworked. |
Fatboy Slim – Put It Back Together Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I was thinking coke. "Every single line I gotta Clean it out to the side When we're not down and out" Great jam, I love the feel of this song. |
King Crimson – Cadence and Cascade Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Definitely my favorite king crimson. It's so beautiful and perfect! It seems to me to be about someone who thinks he's better than others, like some sort of king, but nobody else sees him that way. Hence the paper courtesan viewing him "just a man". Obviously there's more to it but thats a start. |
Jethro Tull – Thick as a Brick (Parts 1 & 2) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
inpraiseoffolly I thought that was a great analysis, and murphymurphy too. I think that by saying that the lyrics are all bull, Anderson is testing our ability to think for ourselves, instead of just looking to someone else to tell us what it means. Great song! |
Modest Mouse – Dark Center of the Universe Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think this song makes sense as a breakup song and about atheism. I don't think it can't be about both. It's fantastic. |
Yes – That, That Is Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Wow, no stabs at this yet... not surprising, it's daunting. I'll start small by saying it sounds to me like a call to give, and to love. And in a greater sense, to realize that you are a part of all that is, kind of like a strand of a tapestry (they didn't say that it's just an analogy i'm making). I'm sure there's a lot more to it than that, this song is awesome and obviously incredibly complex and deep. Just thought I'd get the ball rolling. |
Tool – The Pot Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's a reference to the pot calling the kettle black... it's an old expression about hypocrisy. |
Smash Mouth – Fallen Horses Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yeah this song is definitely a gem from astro lounge that most people bypass. I'd say it might even be best on the album. |
Neil Young – Razor Love Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think of it as a love song but maybe thats naive and wishful. I hate to think such a beautiful song is about coke. I can't say for sure, all i know is it's definitely a great great song. I think it's a love song. |
Pink Floyd – Sysyphus (Part 1) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
But surely the spelling difference must exist for a reason? Maybe? |
Neil Young – Horseshoe Man Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I LOVE this song! Why are there no comments?? Just take any line from this song, it's like full of aphorisms. So great. I wish there was a horseshoe man that came around and fixed people. Does anybody know what he's getting at with that? What's a horseshoe man? |
The Goo Goo Dolls – Iris Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I like to think it's cause Iris's are beautiful but very deadly poisonous - much like love (as can be seen from the many heartbreak and love stories listed above) |
Architecture in Helsinki – The Owls Go Lyrics | 16 years ago |
La Meilleure, I totally agree with you. |
Van Morrison – Burning Ground Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Jute is a fiber they use to make like burlap sacks and stuff. I think the burning ground is a place (in your head) where you can destroy things - old memories, things that are weighing you down, etc. I think this song is about struggling with a breakup. |
Beck – Ramshackle Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think this song is just about how people drift through life. We're going somewhere but we don't know where. I agree with what markgb said about wealth. This song is so mellow and great. "So take off your coat, Put a song in your throat, Let the dead-beats pound all around" -- This is my favorite part of the song. I think it's a two part thing - It's inviting you to just relax, sit back and listen to the song. It's also a recommendation, I think, about life. Relax, listen to some music, and let the "dead-beats," a.k.a. the "rats in the races," pound all around - do meaningless things that they think is living. Lastly, I like the image of "flypaper towns," towns that people stay in because they were just zooming around meaninglessly and got stuck. |
Spoon – Don't You Evah Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think eva, wake up has got it. This song is great! |
Josh Rouse – Rise Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is beautiful and fantastic. I really think he's talking to a girl that broke up with him - he's still in love with her, and she doesn't have time for him. I like your idea too though. The best songs are those that mean a lot in different ways to different people. |
Jefferson Airplane – Comin' Back to Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think he just ended a relationship with someone he loves. Great song, full of emotion. |
Neil Young – Big Green Country Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I couldn't believe this song hadn't been posted!! It's a good one. |
The Flaming Lips – You Got to Hold On Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I like this song. I think it's about gay rights. The repeated "man," and especially the part: "And with a lot of patience We'll see a lot of changes And the United Nations Will see our love is only love And there's nothing to be afraid of" |
Grateful Dead – Foolish Heart Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I love this song. Mostly the lyrics. Let me explain my interpretation, which I think is pretty accurate. As an overview, it's saying don't date someone who sucks (not literally haha). The first part is saying do something that won't last (carve your name in ice and wind), something that's impossible (finding the end or beginning of life (river) - the river is a metaphor for life because of the famous idea that (to quote led zeppelin) "though the course may change sometime, rivers always reach the sea" - an idea about fate. But I'm getting off track... just trust me) but don't give your love to a foolish heart. I could go through all of these, but I decided I'm not going to. If someone posts asking me to I will. I'm just going to say that they all give options of things to do, just as long as you don't give your love to a foolish heart. Because that is the only thing you shouldn't do, it's the worst thing you can do. They also describe what a foolish heart is: "A foolish heart will call on you To toss your dreams away. Turn around and blame you, For the way you went astray. A foolish heart will cause you grief, And often make you hurt. A selfish heart is trouble, But a foolish heart is worse." And lastly, they say that if you're with one you should break up: "Bite the hand, Bite the hand that bakes your bread. Dare to lead, Where the angels fear to tread, 'till you are torn apart, Start the fire of paradise, With coals from Hell to start." Paradise being a love thats better than what you have, and Hell being going through the breakup. |
Duran Duran – Save A Prayer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Check out the version by 56k on youtube or whatever. It's a trance version but it is sooo good. This version is great too of course. |
Architecture in Helsinki – It's Almost a Trap Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Song's mad good. I don't know what it means yet. I love it thought. I bet it means something. |
Architecture in Helsinki – Souvenirs Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think it bears mentioning that souvenir is french for memory. I think Deranged Hippo and gummy b have a pretty good interpretation. I love this song so much, and that mixed tape comment was brilliant. |
Fatboy Slim – Push and Shove Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I am pretty sure this song is about a girl cheating on him, but he loves her so he stays with her anyways. Great song. |
Peter Bjorn and John – Paris 2004 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is amazing. I love the part about the ring. It's great imagery. And it's such a damn good move... and I like how they took time off to comprehend the seriousness of their situation. My favorite part is how he doesn't say love in the whole song. It's such an over used word and I think it's so much better the way he showed it - it means so much more. I think this is about when they first fell in love. That moment... when you realize you're in love. Thats what this song is about, and the moment was his trip to Paris. They took the day off to contemplate their newfound love. Great song. |
Peter Bjorn and John – Up Against the Wall Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think you guys have it pretty right on. But at the end, when he says "It’s almost that I wish you had me up against the wall" I don't think he actually wants her back, hence the almost. It's just post-relationship 'withdrawal' so to speak that everyone goes through. Amazing song. |
Wilco – I Am Trying to Break Your Heart Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I understand it to mean she has made a quick fix in their relationship (bandaid) in the hopes to "score" (touchdown). This seems to fit in with the whole breakup, get back together theme of the song and how it was bad and didn't work. |
Nirvana – On a Plain Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is about "The Stranger" by Albert Camus. Read it. |
Islands – If Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is great. It does feel like daydreaming the way it drifts along. I also love what Tadpul said, that seems right. I don't think it can't be both. Like just daydreaming about how the world is heading downhill. The last part is sweet though :-) |
Islands – If Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is great. It does feel like daydreaming the way it drifts along. I also love what Tadpul said, that seems right. I don't think it can't be both. Like just daydreaming about how the world is heading downhill. The last part is sweet though :-) |
Peter Bjorn and John – The Chills Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Haha benjisan that hug comment was funny and good. This song is definitely a post-breakup song.. Sad :-( but very very good. |
Architecture in Helsinki – Where You've Been Hiding Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The song is so full of emotion, so so sad. I think it's absolutely amazing, very poetic. It's about two people in a relationship, and the guy all of a sudden just stopped talking to the girl and left. She is devastated. She tries to bring him pictures of them together, but he won't let her in so she breaks down crying on his veranda. So many tears that it turns the dry concrete into wet concrete. She can't find him anywhere. She writes him a letter but he doesn't answer. So sad :-( |
Architecture in Helsinki – In Case We Die (Parts 1-4) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I saw this a bit differently. I think this is about a crazy relationship where they're in love but they fight all the time and manipulate eachother. Let me explain. Person 1: "i've got problems i'm gonna use them i'm gonna keep them from you until you cry" --> Person 1 has issues... trust, etc. It's going to F up the relationship. Person 2:"got machine guns I never shoot them I only borrowed them in case we die" --> Person 2 knows some things, (machine guns) about person 1's past or whatever. Doesn't reveal this knowledge but keeps it as a weapon in case they break up (die) "late nights play fights i'm freezing and you're leaving me here blue and red, up i'm fed, you're upset, almost dead, tounge twisted" ---> They have some good times together, late nights. They start having play fights. They start having real fights. Next line, they're almost over (dead). "Blue and Red" = Sad and mad. "tongue twisted" = doesn't know what to say, how to fix it. His tongue is tied to fight anymore. "35 nightmares & 94 days since i got near you and your anxious ways hey darling, lets steal it i'm certain you're sure spell it to me love" --> He's having nightmares from jealousy, trust issues etc (like in the beginning when she had the issues but was going to give them to him). He's certain she's in love with him, and makes her explain her love so he can be sure. ex: why do you love me? "and as we planned, there's fireworks stage right swallowing the brains of all in sight it's 1am that's evening your time we're counting sheep sell it to me, yell it to me LOVE" --> the climax of the song (so epic!). The fireworks stage right is a seemingly scripted, unavoidable final blowout between the two. The emotions take over, neither are thinking rationally (with their brain). It's 1 am which is still early for her. They can't get to sleep, she's trying to tell him what love is (spell it to me) and convincing him that they're in it (sell it to me) despite all this mess of a relationship. "leave it while it still smoulders so I have to say I told you I carved our names in a tree there I meant the letters to be bolder around the angles there's a race where silver never gets golder maybe when we get older (baby when we get older) we don't have to get colder, colder"--> The relationship is over although there are still feelings of love (leave it while it still smolders). When he fell in love with her (carved their names in a tree) he meant it to mean more and last longer (meant the letters to be bolder). He may have physically done this as well but its still a metaphor. They had a silver (second rate, possibly tarnished) relationship they were just waiting and hoping would turn to gold, but he realized that doesn't happen. He hopes that they don't stop being close friends now that they have gone separate ways. I LOVE THIS SONG |
