I first heared this song right after my ex girlfriend decided to end a 2 year relationship and right away found all the meaning that it holds, for me. A turning tide > everything changed Lovers at a great divide > we broke up Why'd you lie > she told me she was better off without me When I know that you hurt inside? > however when we met and she told me this, she was pouring tears while i wasnt, cos i knew she was making stufff up just to leave me. Then there was the classic "lets be friends" she threw at me, but even then she wouldnt care bout me anymore, so i felt like "I don't wanna go, I don't wanna stay / ... / When you wanna die, when you hurt inside" Then: Don't know what you lie for anyway Now there's nothing left to say > she was pretending we could be friends but in fact we couldnt talk to eachother in a normal manner anymore. Then the last part, Well for a lonely soul, you're having such a nice time For a lonely soul, you're having such a nice time has a totally ironic or sarcastic tone to me, cos she used to tell me she wouldnt be able to forget me soon, she'd stay alone for a long time, while in fact one month after she left me she was already with someone else. I agree with you, and since something like that happened to me recently (one night i was chatting with my now ex gf, everything seemed like a normal night, till she said something wasnt allright). Before that time i thought 3 AM could be something metaphorical like some months ago, but now i see I can take it literally. Things can go wrong so suddenly and this is what this song means to me. And whatever I did to try to fix things i couldnt, that's also included in the song. I couldnt see things like the singer did, and she let them root and grow, and when things went wrong there was no chance to remove those "bad" things that tore us apart. |

To me, the song is obviously about a guy that sees that his girl is about to leave him, then he asks her what can he do to refrain her from breaking his heart... pretty easy content. There is another great cover by a Portuguese band called Silence 4, if you like this version please check it out, its great... They also did another "kind" of cover, on the same album, called "A (very) little respect" which is a slower version with voices and guitar only... sadder. Check it out |

Heyy ... lived in Portugal for 7 years, im Argentinean, how are ya? Uploaded the Silence 4 lyrics because they are awesome... i used to play these songs a lot in a time of my life i was pretty much down and they gave me comfort. I like breeders' fast pace and like desperation tone of the guy trying to reach immortality, but for some reason he seems sad about the fact, or desperate as i said. Any other suggestions? |

Well the song i think its straight forward (love it by the way) but the most "metaphorical" part is "Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones" To me this part means, theres hope in the end, and that hope will put you in motion (ignite as in an engine,not as in burn and be hurt) Well my 2 cents. |

Normally i cant stand Shakira's wannabe singer-unemployed-long-distance-trucker-dressed-in-drag voice, and now less than ever, since this song is playing in the radio over and over... i mean dont you get tired of that cheap trumpet which constitutes the whole music for the song, along with the stupid lyrics? And dont get me started with the video... looks like Shakira got an extra dose of speed, i man, i dont get turned on by a girl shaking like if she's handling a neumatic hammer... and before anyone starts talking i am straight and have a girlfriend. And about the spanish sung parts, the guy didnt even try to get a couple of lessons, and i would know because spanish is my mother language. And that mi casa, su casa part, thats the dumbest addition to the song... its like... "dude we're doing a song with shakira, do you know anything in spanish to add to it? huh wasnt there a show on people and arts called sumthing like meh casa, soo casa ? ooo soo casa, dat sounds great." Give me a break... |
