| Radiohead – Faust Arp Lyrics | 18 years ago |

lactose stop getting your "facts" from Pitchfork. The Jean Arp reference is more likely, but who knows. Also I like this song slightly more than first hearing it but I still think it's the weakest on the album. It reminds me of what Thom Yorke once said about the lyrics to "Fitter Happier"--that if he'd sung them himself it would have sounded like a pile of wank. To me this song is bordering on that. |

| I cannot believe how much better this is than the live version. The attention to detail is insane. Only bad thing is it dwarfs the rest of the album in its awesomeness. | |

| Man what the hell did they do to this song? It was totally the best thing they had going since The National Anthem and now it sounds like Lemon by U2. Awful awful awful. | |

It's sad when people add lyrics just so that they can say they posted them first...even when they don't know the full lyrics. Hopefully this person will come back later and update the lyrics properly. For some reason this song really annoys me and I've been skipping it every time it comes on. It reminds me a bit of "Lozenge of Love" except...crap. |

| I love how there is that sound of a door closing or whatever it is when she sings "your mind finally free". So subtle yet entirely appropriate. | |
| Unwound – We Invent You Lyrics | 18 years ago |

i've taken these lyrics from a version i found somewhere on the web years ago (searching for it it doesn't seem to exist anymore), but i've also made a couple of changes, which may or may not be correct. it's hard to pick a favourite from leaves turn inside you, let alone an overall favourite unwound song, but this comes pretty close... the lyrics however are among my favourite from any song by any band. |

| Nirvana – Radio Friendly Unit Shifter Lyrics | 18 years ago |

the title refers to the production of the album...basically the version albini engineered got messed around with by geffen after kurt's a&r guy freaked out about it not being the kind of sound that would make the label even more piles of money. having heard both versions (the original was accidentally pressed by universal in 2003 in very limited numbers) i find it hard to comprehend why cobain let his label get the better of him, since he was supposedly a huge fan of the sound albini gets out of the bands he records,,,he was either a hypocrite or just really vulnerable at the time to being manipulated by a bunch of record executives. |

A lot of that isn't right, This is a version I got from The Steve Albini Lyrics Project, which I've fixed up in a few parts; missing lines &c. Of course this is far from perfect, but maybe a bit closer to the real words. Or not. -------------------------------------------------------------- I started out drinking It stays that way Was not at all human And I killed another day On the wall is another earth At my neck is another knife Another wrinkle in my skin Another kick that I can't feel I start out hating myself And when I'm through I've gotta have someone to hate And I guess it's you Man's gotta have someone to hate Guess I'll do And when I'm through with myself I'll start on you Everything I do Makes me want to die I started out drinking I wonder why I started out drinking And it stays that way Was not at all human And I killed another day On the wall is another earth On my neck is the other knife Another wrinkle in my skin Another trip that I can't make Man's gotta hate someone And I guess I'll do And when I'm through with myself I'll start on you I start out hating myself And when I'm through I'm looking for someone to hate Guess you'll do -------------------------------------------------------------- |

| i love the manic street preachers remix of this song. | |
| Radiohead – Fog Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i think this song is about benny profane and that guy who preaches to rats | |
| Pavement – You Are A Light Lyrics | 19 years ago |

i think the last verse that's up there is more or less right...as for the ??????? bit, my guess is: "let's act like winners and--" |

| Low – Don't Understand Lyrics | 19 years ago |

i never really paid much attention to the lyrics in this song but its always been a favourite of mine. looking at them now they kind of make me think of someone who has to deal with raising a step child..or an adopted child who has gone back to its natural parents, and how they can only be seen as a burden. |

| Low – Lazy Lyrics | 19 years ago |

...a failing relationship...or a girl who only bakes enough chocolate brownies for herself? like most of low's songs its open to any kind of interpretation. probably my favourite song by the band, especially love the guitar at about 4:10, reminds me of the cure. |

| Shellac – My Black Ass Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Here's a version closer to the real lyrics, but still not perfect: Gonna eat what I pick And I hope you choke on it I'm proud to break a sweat Too late For Satchel Paige It's a Gary Cooper Story and it shines like Sammy's knee Gonna eat what I pick And I hope you choke on it When I dance I raise the dead Drop a nickel in my hat Take one look at your big smile Proud to break a sweat My Black ass ...as for the meaning, well I think its basically about black slavery and baseball. People like Satchel Paige overcoming the adversity of not being treated as an equal; ie. going from the Negro Leagues to play on in the Major Leagues (not sure but I think he might've been the first person to do this). I think Omnicide is right about the Gary Cooper reference though I'm not sure who Sammy is - maybe Sammy Davis Jr? |
