In addition to the numerous drug references in the lyrics, there is more in the video: Near the end of the video they come across a white horse, which makes no sense except as a heroin reference. Shortly thereafter, they come across a women on the ground hysterically searching through the spilled contents of her purse. She certainly looks like a junkie who is trying to find that one last hit she thought she still had. |

As stated previously, "horse" is slang for heroin. "Pony" is slang for crack cocaine: http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/streetterms/ByAlpha.asp?strTerm=P http://www.pride.org/slangdrugterms.HTM#P http://www.noslang.com/drugs/dictionary/p The song is saying, "Don't use heroin, crack is better." |

| America – A Horse With No Name Lyrics | 16 years ago |

What's great about this song are the vocal melody and harmonies, not the lyrics. That said, the lyrics are so obviously about heroin that it's no wonder the song was banned from the radio. "After three days in the desert fun I was looking at a river bed [VEIN ON HIS ARM] And the story it told of a river that flowed [PREVIOUS HEROIN TRIP] Made me sad to think it was dead" [HE'S OUT OF HEROIN] I think you have to be a heroin user to really "feel" the first verse. Lines like "the heat was hot" probably don't sound so silly to that select club. I'm glad to say I don't get it. |

Give me a break, this song is a fairly obvious allegory (metaphor). It is not about a girl, it is about a drug. "They got it early in the morning They got it late in the evening Well, I want that, need it Oh, I gotta gotta have it" Who's "they"? The dealers. |

My local rock station started playing this song in the wake of Coplumbine, pretty cool on their part. This song is '80s keyboards at their absolute finest. |

"Move yourself and glide like a 747 loose yourself in the sky among the clouds in the heavens" Well, obviously they were getting high. "slice it right " OK, so cocaine was the drug of choice. |

| The Outlaws – Green Grass and High Tides Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Marijuana is called "grass", it's green, and it makes you "high". Hence, "green grass and high tides". This song is not about psychedelics like LSD. The descriptions in this song are not hallucinations. They are a metaphor for how the singer feels when he gets high on marijuana - as if he is going to a heavenly paradise. Don't read too much into the lyrics, they are shallow. This is simply one of the best Southern guitar jams of the decade. |

| The Mamas & the Papas – California Dreamin' Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The bit about the preacher is obviously taking a shot at organized religion. The song is saying that the preacher is happy about cold weather because this draws people into his church for warmth. Metaphorically, it is saying that the preacher is happy that there is suffering in the world, because people who are suffering are more likely to succumb to his preaching. | |
