This song IS all about God, people. " Fall back into the arms of grace...", "Sit outside heaven's door....". Most obviously, he asks, " I'm trying to identify/ the voices in my head/ God, which one's you?". Jason Wade must be seriously schizo if he's hearing his girlfriend in his head, innit? But of course, if you want it to work on a romantic level, go ahead. You can even work it on a friendship level or parental level. Its about love, after all. Love for God, yes. But I do suppose that if you want to, eros could be contrasted with agape for poetic and dramatic effect. |

I love the line...' They know that they can't dance, at least, they know." Its a line referring to religious people who can't understand the concept of contemporary, relevant, funky Christians WHILE referring to their disastrous dance album at the same time. Classic! Basically, i think this song is about the whole CCM controversy and crossover projects by artists such as Sun Ho, Lifehouse and Switchfoot, while secondarily about Bono's own withstanding of temptation in the face of a sex and drugs rock and roll culture. Check out the entire myriad of allures presented in the verse after the first chorus and guilt-inducing image of "Jesus round her neck." The temptation theme continues in the bridge, basically paraphrasing Satan's last temptation of Jesus in the desert. Interestingly, the studio vid for this part just before the last chorus" your love is teaching me how/to kneel" features the Edge throwing Bono off after this "tempting" to blast his guitar. One more thing: Unos, Dos, Tres, Cartoce. 1, 2, 3, 14. First Testament, second book, 3rd chapter, 14th verse. That's the verse God announces Himself as I AM THAT I AM: Yahweh. Vertigo is the first song on the album. The last song? A track titled Yahweh. |

It's very obviously a spiritual song in the sense of meaning. "You heard me in my tune/When I just heard confusion.."..."All because of you...I am.". Very apparent lyrics about God's foreworking in our lives. The whole bridge is about the new birth. Compare it with the dialogue between Jesus and the Pharisees where Jesus is teaching about the rebirth through fire and water. In a musical sense, though, its a homage to the Who. The sharp guitar licks and tenor riffing is pure Who adoration. Add in the scream before the bridge and its a sheer connection. God and rock and roll...only Bono could pull it off. Lol. |

This is definitely about God, to some extent, though not necessarily Christian. "Back into the arms that care about The ones like me"-this is a very obvious reference to a singular person grammatically. Probably, its about sinking into depression and sin, how he knows God still cares for him and is reaching towards him, "Away from the sun/That shines to light the way for me/To find my way". Very obviously, though, 3 Doors Down are not a christian band in the Contemporary Christian Music vein, although they might have faith in the personal sense. |
