Look nobody is saying Bohemian Rhapsody doesn’t fit in with Freddy ‘s HIV status. I dare say there were times when he himself must have looked back, with sad irony, at songs like ‘Who wants’ to live for ever’, ‘Another one bites the dust’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and thought how prophetic. It couldn’t have been easy at times to sing such songs when they so fully express the turmoil he must have been feeling at times but didn’t want to show. But there is, perhaps, with the exception of ‘Who wants to live for ever’, no No, NO way they could have been about his ailment. It quite simple, while AIDS I’m sure was around in the 70’s it was unknown to our doctors so IT’S IMPOSSIBLE that Bohemian Rhapsody could have been about that issue. It really sad, actually, to think that Freddy is slowly being defined as much by that horrible disease as his music. Bohemian Rhapsody is classic opera, it’s got the hole thing; tragedy, insane rendering guilt, judgment of self, survival instinct, acceptance and resignation. It’s in every opera, stories vary but the theme is the same. You can bend it or shape to any tragedy. Unfortunately too many think Freddy and AIDS and their allowing the disease to kill him twice, spiritually as well as physically. Freddy Mercury was about so much more than what killed him. So lets hear no more about this song being about AIDS. CAUSE ITS NOT. |
