| Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Karn Evil 9: First Impression Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
The song Karn Evil 9 as a whole is about a future in which all of humanities imperfections are removed. First impressions is about a future in which everything evil, corrupt or dangerous, or which can cause wars, corruption and the like, are no longer existant except as a display in a carnival show. This includes sex, violence, religeon, death, sadness and so on. We also get our first hint as to what will happen in the end of 3rd impressions during the line "Just behind that glass is a real blade of grass, be carefull as you pass, move along, move along" You see, grass is natural. Nature is viewed as imperfect in this future and this is the only remaining piece of grass. And unlike the other displays, the blade of grass is viewed as dangerous rather than entertaining. All of this is reenforced at the end of First Impressions when he says "We would like it to be known the exhibits that were shown were exclusively our own, All our own. All our own. " which shows that none of these things exsist outside this carival. Now, this then leads into 3rd impressions. In third impressions, the final imperfection is destroyed: man. The computers that man made in the goal of perfection now view humans as imperfect. A war is fought and one man is spared. He thinks that he has won, and that, since all the other humans were recorded onto tape, that humanity can be restored. However, it is then revealed that the computer simply let him live, assumably to put on display in the carnival as a one of a kind example of the imperfections of man. Then, the final line the computer states "I'm perfect, are you?" and the rest fades out into computer noises as imperfection is whiped out. So, the song is about the dangers of reaching for perfection as in a world where everything imperfect has been removed, there is no place for humanity, who is flawed by nature. |

| The Alan Parsons Project – Don't Let It Show Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Well, I could be wrong, but I think this song is possibly based of one of the I, Robot stories called Evidence, where there is a politician suspected to be a robot, and it is strongly suggested throught the story that he is one. It's implied that he was built by an old man that he refers to as his "teacher." This could be a conversation between them where the teacher is saying to hide the fact that you are a robot. I'm not sure, but that seems the closest match to one of the I, Robot stories. I mean, it doesn't seem quite to fit to me so I'm probably way off on this one. |

| Yes – Siberian Khatru Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Multiplexman, I think you're right about this being about summer. I think the "Gold Stainless Nail" refers to the beams from the sun, which, during the summer time, go through all of us, or "tear through the distance of man". During the summer, there's birds and insects "Bluetail, tailfly", and rivers. The "Cold Reigning King" refers to winter, and that comes back to the title Siberian Khartu, or Siberian King. The song is saying that, even though Siberia is such a cold place, even it has a summer. |

| I think this song is about someone who doesn't take risks, but realizes that he now must make a risk. | |
| The Alan Parsons Project – Gemini Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is a great song. I love the vocal polyphony, especially at the end of the song. As for the meaning, I think it is about the bond between lovers. The constelation Gemini is "the twins" and represents two twins holding hands. So when he says "I don't know why you and I are gemeni", he's saying that he doesn't know why they have this connection or bond. "We are travelling a million worlds away". He is saying that this bond is so strong that he can still see her "shadow comming closer then watch" it "drifting away" even when they are seperated by a million worlds. | |
| Kansas – Paradox Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this song is about how, even if you saw everything in the world a hundred times over, there would still be those unexplained questions about life. | |

I think both sides are right in this case. The thing about The Alan Parsons Project, at least I think this is the case, is that the songs mean one thing when they are alone, but can mean another thing when taken in context of the album as a whole. For those of you who think this song means on thing, try listening to it in the mindset of the other oppinion (if you think about it as a relationship, now think of it as a big brother system) It will still make sense. In fact, some of the lines that seemed out of place in your first view will now make sense in this other context. |

| Kansas – The Pinnacle Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song is about a hero, who has now grown old, telling his story. The first part is him remenicing to a young person about his heroic journies. He is telling this youth becase he is the only one the hero can forgive. We find out why in the next section, which deals with the hero talking to one of his companions. In this section, we see that the hero's glorious journies were not so glorious and the hero has many regrets and much guilt over the tough moral decisions that he fears he made wrong. The last part of the song, as he hero approaches death, he sees what lies beyond. He sees what lies after death, and at the end, declares: "Life is ammusing; though we are loosing; drowned in tears of awe" |

| Rush – Cygnus X-1 Book I: The Voyage Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is an awsome song. Its about a guy who flies directly into a black hole in order to find out weather or not it brings him to another universe. The only way for him to know is for him to fly into it and risk death if it doesn't take him to another universe. | |

| Queen – Innuendo Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think alot of you are not looking in the right place for the meaning of the song. I think the key to this song lies in the line: "Through the Sorrow; All through the Splender; Don't take offence at my; Innuendo". I believe that this line is the key for a few reasons. The rest of the song is loud, powerfull and optemistic. This seems to be the songs one low note. It is like the song is showing a person's outside appearence, their large and monumentous actions, and this line shows the one simple thing, that one thought guiding them. The song is also titled innuendo, as is the album. If you look at this song, it is talking about the future, about possibilities, about goals. However, at this point, Freddie Mercury new that he was going to die, and probably soon, although he kept this fact hidden. I think that this song is about the facade that he is putting up and that this one line is the one line where he admits his fate. I think this line is in a way a farewell mesage saying I'm sorry I could not succeed in the goals layed in the rest of the song. I think in this case, the innuendo refers to the empty intentions, how he wanted to change the world, but now he is affraid that the goals that he set were nothing but innuendo: a suggenstion at something without the results to back it up. This is my interpretation of the song |

| David Bowie – Wild Eyed Boy from Freecloud Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This is an amazing song. The music itself nearly allows you to understand the song more than the lyrics themselves. This is what I can figure out about this song: First Verse: This sets up the basis of the song. There is a small village, and there is a "wild eyed boy" imprissoned awaiting hanging. Second verse: The boy had come with a message. The villagers, however, do not understand and fear the boy as he is from freecloud, a mysterious mountain. Central section: I have a feeling that the key to understanding the song lies here, however I can't quite understand what the meaning in this section is. In the next section, we see now the powerfull people of freecloud now notice the peril that the boy is in. Meanwhile, as the boy is about to be hung, the town becomes paniced as he does not seem to be afraid and appears to have a plan. Next, the people of freecloud save the boy, but, despite his cries, they destroy the village in the process. The boy returns home saddened that he could not save the people of the village |
