In the live version from the "Hands in Dirty Ground" EP Dekker's pronouncation is much more distinct.. Instead of: "there was a fear in it and all a great(?)" and ´"all your funniest(?) lines" I think it is: "there was a fear in it and all it brings" and "all your glorious lines" |

Beautiful song indeed. Don't know what I make of the song as whole, but there seems to be references to both life and death in the lyrics. Especially this part accounts for the death theme: Gathered and strewn From this altitude To some other moon Wearing false armour And useless shields Failed to exist It's described as if a body has been cremated and scattered (gathered and strewn) from a great height (from this altitude to some other moon) without any form of protection (wearing false armor and useless shields) to eventually disappear (failed to exist). This part seems to account for the life part: Loss and gain Fly into the mouth of the ground Six feet under Thanks to some failure Fly into the mouth of the ground Six feet under .. describing the dawn of man perhaps. How we started living on the planet out of nothing by coincidence (fly into the mouth of the ground, six feet under, thanks to some failure) |

What a great song! Recently heard this one from a radio session, and these should be the proper lyrics. See/listen for yourself here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GziH8s7ksMo So you're wishing that you never did All the embarrasing things you've done And you're wishing you could set it right And you're wishing you could stay tonight But then I go again, wishing never solved the problem If you wanna get it big time, go ahead and get it get it big time Ah,ah.. Ah,ah.. So you think you can solve all your problems by yourself Nevermind nevermind nevermind nevermiiind And I think I can solve all my problems by myself Nevermind, nevermind, nevermind, nevermind Ah,ah.. Ah,ah.. Oh, give it, give it, give it, give it, give it Until you just can't give no more Oh, give it, give it, give it, give it, give it Until you just can't give no more Oh, oh.. Oh, oh.. Oh, give it, give it, give it, give it, give it Until you just can't give no more Oh, give it, give it, give it, give it, give it Until you just can't give no more Oh, oh.. Oh, oh.. |

| Coldplay – 42 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I instantly regarded the first two lines as a philosophical aspect, in which the dead are remembered in the heads of their relatives and not by material goods and furthermore that they "live on" only in our heads and not in an alleged heaven.. | |

t4pyro: I think you're right. I've been wondering what the alien/god comment meant in terms of the protagonist's believe (or disbelieve). I can see how it would make sense that people told him that it was god, and that he didn't conclude that himself, but just added the "just" part. Couldn't agree more on this matter by the way.. Incredible song! |

| What a beautiful song. I like Stipe singing like this.. Can't believe the lack of comments on this one and on R.E.M. generally. They're the best :-) | |

| "Lev stærkt - dø dum" er et spil på titlen af en gammel bog af Willard Motley ved navn "Lev stærkt - dø ung" eller "Knock on any door". | |
| Band of Horses – Wicked Gil Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Definitely their best song.. Only a few of their other songs do as much for me as this. I'm hearing "I know evil people will save me" in the chorus btw.. I'm quite sure that these lyrics need to be corrected a bit.. | |

| The Shins – Split Needles Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| "Spilt Needles" is presumably the correct title, it's just a bit odd that Gracenote finds it as "Split Needles" when importing the album to iTunes. | |
| R.E.M. – Fretless Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Great song! I like the line: Don't talk to me about being alone.. It's so deep, and mysteriously contradictory (or maybe just ironic as the protagonist asks in a somewhat cocky way to be left alone in the very matters of being alone. Nice touch in my opinion. Typical REM lyrics btw. (in a good way!) | |

Definitely some tangled lyrics.. Am I the only one looking at this as the aftermath of an ended relationship? To me, the "Fond of Y-O-U" part is sort of beyond "I love you", due to the way Mercer sings it and due to the fact that it is repeated. Besides that I can totally relate to the mentioned "ridiculous, repulsive games", and to the mask of disdain in terms of an aftermath. As I see it the narrator is looking back on this relationship and especially on the way the other part reacts during the aftermath, so this is sort of an one-sided look on an ended relationship, filled with accusations and self-comforting allegatioins, and these allegations help the narrator realize that it's time to move on and "..get back on that horse and ride!" Anyway, what an incredible song and an amazing performance of it on Letterman the other night! |
