U2 – With or Without You Lyrics 16 years ago
I have to admit, I'm a little unimaginative, and have always interpreted this as a guy/girl song, though the drug/God interpretations are interesting and seem to fit as well.

Specifically, getting back to the guy/girl interpretation, I believe that the man is hoping for a fully commited, serious relationship, while the woman is holding him at arm's length, insisting on maintaining a casualness to the relationship.

"On a bed of nails she makes me wait."

He's waiting for her to get closer to him, to give more of herself, and the wait is tortuous.

"You give it all but I want more."

She's giving all that she has to give of herself at the moment, but it's not enough for him.

Although, one interesting thing about this song is the way that the singer switches between first and third person. This is either sloppy writing, (which I doubt Bono is guilty of,) or the song is referencing two different people. So perhaps the cheating interpretation has merit. He loves the woman he's with, but he just needs more sometimes. Something darker, more dangerous, more exciting;

"My hands are tied, my body's bruised"

This could be interpreted as some sort of sado-masochism.

Anyway, I've just always admired how this song in able to take a worn out cliche, ("women, can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em,) and imbue it with such profound meaning and poignancy.

Plain White T's – Hey There Delilah Lyrics 16 years ago
I have to hand it to the band; this is a well-written song. It reminds me of being young and idealistic about love. I'm thirty years old and jaded, and, when I hear this song, I can't help but think that none of his plans will come true; she'll probably meet some other guy in New York, or he'll meet someone else where he is, or things will just fall apart for some reason or another, but for a moment he can believe and bask in his feelings.

Iron Maiden – Different World Lyrics 17 years ago
The songs on AMOLAD tend to be about either war or religion; I'd say this one is about religion. Someone, (a priest, a guru, a rabbi, a shaolin monk,) is "leading" this person, "on the path," and "showing" him "the way," yet this person still feels, "a little lost," and "a little strange."

In other words, what works for one person and makes sense for one person may not make sense for another.

I'd say this song is pretty existentianal. It seems to be saying that life has no real clear meaning; that we each need to get out there and figure things out for ourselves.

The Cranberries – Linger Lyrics 17 years ago
I've always thought that this song was about a rebound relationship; the guy was only using her to get over some other girl, but she really fell for him. What he's letting "linger" is his attachment to his ex. It's always seemed to me as if she's telling him, "you've got someone here who really loves you, why can't you just let go of her and completely focus on me?"

I don't know why, but that's always been my take on the song, because I've been in a similar situation, just with the genders reversed.

Iron Maiden – Caught Somewhere In Time Lyrics 17 years ago
On the one hand, it sounds like a classic "deal with the Devil" song, but, then there's the time travel references. I think it's about how time travel could create parallel universes. If there's more than one version of you, does that mean that each version of you owns a soul? If not, then which version of you actually has a soul, and what if we are currently living in a parallel universe that temporal displacement has already created? Then you and I wouldn't even be the original versions of ourselves, so maybe we don't even have souls and, if we do, perhaps they're corrupted and the Devil owns them.

Anyway, I think the song is about something along those lines:)

Motörhead – Ace Of Spades Lyrics 17 years ago
The gambling references are a metaphor for a hard-living, wreckless lifestyle; biking, drinking, drugs, fighting, etc. He knows that it will do him in eventually, that he'll eventually be dealt the "Ace of Spades" (the death card,) but that's the way he likes it; die with your boots on and all that.

Iron Maiden – The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg Lyrics 17 years ago
I believe that this song may be about the Seventh Son. As another has pointed out, the line "I'm able to see things, things I don't want to see" is reminiscent of "The Clairvoyant." Also, part about the "thousand souls" makes me think of "The Prophecy."
