"Three Minute Warning" is a reference to the recording sessions where Levin wanted to improvise opposed to Petrucci and Portnoy wanting to carefully write songs. Levin eventually told the others that if they didn't start to jam in three minutes, he'd just go home. The song "Three Minute Warning" is a recording of what followed. The recording was so unexpectedly fluent that the recording tape ran out after about 27 minutes into the jam, but luckily Portnoy's DAT recorder archived the ending as well. The back cover of the CD says: "CAUTION: "Three Minute Warning" is not for the musically faint-hearted, impatient, or critics of extreme self-indulgence. If you fall into any of the above categories, please hit the stop button on your CD player after track # 8." - taken from the Wikipedia article. Just thought I'd share. B) |

For those interested, they performed this song live in '93 with Zach de la Rocha (of Rage Against the Machine) saying the spoken word piece in place of Maynard. It went as follows (at least on my copy): I've grown to know you. Cause you entangle within myself. And you held my head straight to face you. Though I twisted in widths to try to tear you away. "Screw the lyrics! Danny Carvey IS. GOD. No one, NO. ONE. Can best Danny Carvey on the drums! THIS SONG IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE!(Sploogeness)" I'm not entirely sure who Danny Carvey is, but Danny Carey is a pretty awesome drummer too. I've seen a video of them performing this live (one of the few, considering the strain on Maynard's voice), and the drumming was even better, if that's possible. |
