Puff Daddy – I'll Be Missing You Lyrics 4 years ago
Its the anniversary month of my daughters death. The chorus of this song hits home.....I miss her so much. She was only seven when she left this world. I think anyone who has lost someone close to them can relate to this song. Its one the the only remade songs that I prefer over the original.

Audioslave – I Am the Highway Lyrics 5 years ago
The lyrics for this song is very simple yet has a profoundly deep meaning. Its about a person telling someone he loves that he cannot be relied upon to be their rock/support. Although he loves the person dearly he is too damaged himself to be able to help anyone else.

The "rolling wheel," carpet ride," "blowing wind" and "autumn moon" are outlets for change or things progressing. They represent hope and he is saying "don't place your hope in me because I'm none of these things.

While the "highway," "sky," "lightening" and "night" are static objects/events that don't change or rarely change. He is someone without hope or the ability to change. So he uses these static events to describe the fact that he can barely help himself much less someone he loves.

Breaking Benjamin – Anthem Of The Angels Lyrics 6 years ago
As a few others have said, this song is about the terrible experience you go through on the final days of a loved one passing away. The lyrics make it obvious what this song is about. However, until you go through the experience of losing someone you truly and deeply love; you cannot understand the amazing depth of the lyrics.

Since the overall meaning has been described in great detail by others, I wanted to concentrate on just one part of the lyrics regarding what this song is about:

"We can chase the dark together,
If you go then so will I"

That pretty much sums up what you will feel if someone you truly love passes away slowly in front of your eyes. You feel like you cant live without them and feel as if it would be better to die with them then to go on living without them. You would give anything if it meant they would live. All the money you have, your house, job and if given a choice you would trade your life if it meant they would live. This is a truly dark and depressing song that is hauntingly beautiful.

Fwdvision: Your absolutely correct. I should have clarified what I meant in that other post. Mike did write the song about a friend of his. But when Chester heard the song it must have struck a chord with him because he couldn't sing the song without crying sometimes. I thought the song reminded him of past issues that he dealt with and those issues were already resolved by this point in his life. Sadly with his passing its clear that he was still dealing with his demons.

I agree with you 100%. I literally wrote the same interpretation back in 2012 but my synopsis seems really messy compared to yours. Its one of the only times I did not proofread something. I wish I could clean up my old post so it sounds as eloquent as yours.

When I first wrote my interpretation for this song I figured this song was inspired by some past events that was resolved. However, I remember an interview with LP in which Chester stated he always felt like breaking down and crying when he sang this song. Now with his passing it makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, what I thought this song meant makes perfect sense with Chester's passing. Almost every word from the lyrics describes what the poor guy must have been dealing with everyday of his life. Therefore, when he sung the song it made him more emotional then normal.

The lyrics literally must have mirrored the struggle he had internally everyday trying to fight to not "break the habit" through suicide. Sadly, he lost that battle in the end. RIP Chester, you will be deeply missed. I hope you find the peace in the next world that you never had in this world.

Oilblackstar: Based on the lyrics of this song I think there is only one meaning that makes sense when you look at every line in the song. I didn't want to make my meaning post overly long so I left some things out. The only meanings to a song that works are ones that make sense when you can tie that meaning to every line in the song.

Your meaning of "he is going to start doing what he wants and stop trying to be normal" does make sense when you look at the refrain by itself. However, when you look at the second verse then the positive meaning doesn't work. In the second verse he is talking about "clutching his cure" and "I hurt much more then anytime before I have no options left again." So that tells you that he is breaking the habit by doing something physical. "Breaking the habit by trying to stop being normal" doesn't make sense when you look at that verse. Especially when you look at the rest of the verse "I have no options left again." Breaking the habit in the sense your talking about only requires a mental change. He is obviously talking about a physical change in "breaking the habit."

So we can establish that whatever his situation may be, its causing him unbearable pain and he has no options left but to break the habit. "Trying to stop being normal" can't take the pain he is describing away. Because its not being abnormal that's causing his pain, its whatever his problem is that's causing the pain. The only way he can stop that pain is through suicide.

Wow I just heard this song for the first time today. One of the saddest and emotional songs I have ever heard. It’s up there with other AX7 classics. The meaning is very straightforward. Besides beings about The Rev; in general its about losing someone very close to you. It could be your grandparent, father/mother, brother/sister, husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend etc. This is a song literally anyone can relate to because everyone has lost someone who was extremely close to them.

Now to the exact meaning: The cause of death in the song is very vague. It could literally be anything; a natural or unnatural death. What is clear is the person that died was not a very happy person. He/she was unhappy with their life for whatever reason. This is made clear by the line: “I tried to heal your broken heart With all that I could.”

Now the signer of the song is extremely depressed over the death of their loved one. He’s even more upset knowing that his loved one died unhappy and not peacefully. The signer is not suicidal nor does he actually want to die but he feels like it would be amazing if he was dead just so he can see his loved one again. He’s in extreme pain over his loved one’s death and he feels like the only thing that would make him feel better is if he could talk to his dead loved one. The feelings in this song are unfortunately something we all will experience at one time or another.

Linkin Park – By Myself Lyrics 11 years ago
Of of LP's songs mean different things to different people but they usually have a main theme. For this song its "fate" and "failure." The song basically describes feelings of someone who completely cannot control something that is very impotent to him or something that greatly affects his life. This could be social anxiety, bullying, career, relationship, friendships or a combination of things etc.

He feels that he is always fated to to fail or have things go wrong in life when it comes to anything important to him. This is strengthened by his past where he has seen everything he has cared about fall to ruin. So much so that now he expects everything that he wants in the future is destined to go wrong. This is regardless of his ability or talents. He feels no matter how skilled he is or how much effort he puts in things will always go wrong. He has become an eternal pessimist and his world has lost all color and excitement.

This is an amazing song that I can completely relate to.

This is one of my favorite songs of all time. The song describes the thoughts/emotions of someone who is about to commit suicide. It also refers to what may have caused the person to become that way. The lyrics are very general and vague so almost can relate to it. They can refer to almost any great emotional/physical struggle life gives us. Lost love, unrequited love, abusive relationship, cheating spouse, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, sexual abuse, bullying, PTSD, war trauma, self-harm, self-image issue etc. The list goes on and on.

It’s such a beautiful song. It brings out the thoughts that someone who is suicidal more accurately, clearly and emotionally than any other song I have heard. If you want just a small idea of how horrible a person going through those experiences goes through, just listen to this song.

By the way, anyone who has previously post that this song is about “breaking the habit” of drug addiction or whatever someone’s problem might be should have a closer look at the lyrics. This is clearly NOT an inspirational song about getting over your problems. This is made clear towards the end with the lines:

“I will never fight again and this is how it ends” and “I don’t know how I got this way I’ll never be alright so I’m breaking the habit tonight” This is clearly saying that the person stopped fighting to fix their problem and has given up. He knows he will never get over his experience. It has made him so suicidal that he is going to kill himself tonight.

Linkin Park – Castle Of Glass Lyrics 11 years ago
This song seems pretty straightforward as far as a general meaning. The song is about someone who has been through a traumatic experience(s) that has changed him as a person. He is definitely extremely depressed "wash the sorrow from off my skin" and can’t get past the experiences he’s been through "wash the poison from off my skin."

He is a shell of the man he used to be; almost to his breaking point. So the "crack" is referring to his barely there self and "castle of glass" is referring to him being almost at his breaking point. That’s why it’s a castle of glass, it’s very easily broken.

But the "castle" also refers to his desire/hope to want to be back to his old self again. The castle is defending the last of himself that he has left and he is desperately searching for someone/something that will make him his old self/happy again.
