Counting Crows – Daylight Fading Lyrics 18 years ago
I always kind of thought this sounded like a pre-Hotel California Eagles song sung by Glen Frey. It just has that vibe to it that I always associated with them.
The lyrics themselves fit the theme of Recovering the Satellites very well in that there's a conflict of pushing people away and wanting to be loved simultaneously. It's a good representation of that conflict, though I don't think it's one of the best on the album.

Counting Crows – Accidentally In Love Lyrics 18 years ago
It's about an ogre, people. The song is written for use in a soundtrack to represent the film via radio. Not that I condemn them for doing it, but let's face it, how many songs have Counting Crows ever done that even sound like they'd be on the same planet with this? While it's a good tune, when an artist does a song for a soundtrack they're basically whoring themselves to an extent.
Like I said, Not that there's anything wrong with it, I suppose. But it is a reason why a lot of artists won't do soundtracks. It's like a painter doing a commissioned work for someone else's pleasure.

Counting Crows – Anna Begins Lyrics 18 years ago
I've always taken this as the protagonist's refusal to admit he loves Anna, until it comes to a point where he can no longer deny that he does, only that when he comes to his senses, she's already ceased to be an option, due to his refusal to act before he does.
The whole, "I'm not ready for the sort of thing" refrain changes meaning through the song. For most of the time it seems to be, of course, about his not being ready to commit to this girl. Finally, though, the thing he's not ready for is to deal with the pain of a lost opportunity.
Brilliant song.

Counting Crows – Sullivan Street Lyrics 18 years ago
I got married for the first time in 1993, less than a year before this came out. I was living in Pittsburgh, and there was this little pizza joint/bar we used to hang out in downtown. There was one night it was getting late and this song came on the jukebox, and I've always associated it with those nights hanging out in the city, wandering through it to bus stops half-drunk with my wife.
It just makes me think of the frailty of those times, and though I know it's not what the song's about or anything, it just brings back one of the better memories of my early 20s.

Counting Crows – Perfect Blue Buildings Lyrics 18 years ago
Since I first heard it when the album came out I always associated it with drug addiction, really. But over time, I came to think it's a bit broader, and mainly about self-destructive behavior in general. The visuals Duritz used in writing this song are among his best, and I think it's one of the best songs to listen to with a hangover. It's the perfect rainy, Sunday morning song.
