| Wow, I'm genuinely surprised there aren't more comments for this song. Out of the entire Stooges catalogue, I think this track in particular marks them as gods and progenitors of proto-punk/early punk rock. I mean, "1970" ranks right up there with "Kick Out The Jams" by MC5. There really isn't anything you can say about this song except that it is pure, raw, insane, reckless, hedonistic and high-voltage rock. It just doesn't get better. The Stooges were amazing, one of my favorite bands. | |

Does anybody remember that old Saturday Night Live skit "The Continental" that they did whenever Christopher Walken hosted? He played an aging pretty boy, and in each installment he was luring a different woman up to his penthouse and trying to seduce her in a very pathetic (but hilarious!) way... That's totally what this song reminds me of. It's full of ridiculous innuendo, and yet it manages not to come off cheesy because behind the lame come-ons, the music IS incredibly seductive in the atmosphere it creates. All of Interpol's songs are somehow hypnotic in that way, that's why I love them. |
