| Blue October – Hate Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This, from the phone call in the beginning, sounds like he's trying to start over and tell his mother that he isn't worth all the trouble, but she won't accept that, as no good mother would. Let's analyze: I have to block out thoughts of you So I don't lose my head They crawl in like a cockroach Leaving babies in my bed Dropping little reels of tape To remind me that I'm alone Playing movies in my head That make a porno feel like home He's trying to justify his existence for the movement he must do to save his mother's pain. There's a burning in my pride A nervous bleeding in my brain An ounce of peace is all I want for you Will you never call again? And will you never say that you love me Just to put it in my face? And will you never try to reach me it is I that wanted this He is telling himself that she is innocent and this is what he wanted. He wants her to make him feel like he did once, but knows she won't. Maybe she will, but in his mind, he's checked out and will not accept if she does. Hate me today Hate me tomorrow Hate me for all the things I didn't do for you Hate me and wait, yeah wait for it to swallow Hate me so you can finally see whats good for you This is him telling her that it's not her fight and, in order to get on with her life and leave him behind, he's giving Mom reasons to hate him for the rest of his life, something he wants her to do in order to deal with his guilt. I'm sober now for 3 whole months It's one accomplishment that you helped me with The one thing that always tore us apart Is the one thing that I won't touch again Self explanatory. He's sober and clean because of Mom. In a sick way I want to thank you For holding my head up late at night While I was busy waging wars on myself You were trying to stop the fight Self explanatory. He's thanking Mom for everything she did to get him over his addiction. You never doubted my warped opinions On things like suicidal hate You made me compliment myself When it was way too hard to take So I'll drive so fucking far away That I'll never cross your mind And do whatever it takes in your heart To leave me behind He's accepting that all the problems that occurred were his fault and, in his mind, the best solution for everyone is for him to leave and be forgotten. It will help Mom heal. And when the sad hard eyes say bye to you and wave Kicking shadows on the street For every mistake that I have made He doesn't want to leave, but he thinks it's best for all parties. And like a baby boy I never was a man Until I saw your blue eyes cry And I held your face in my hand And then I found out I can't make it go away Just make it stop Come back and shine just like it used to be He truly loves his mother, and seeing her falling apart because he's giving up and leaving kills him. He doesn't want to leave and be forgotten and the reaction Mom gives him destroys him emotionally. And then she whispered: "How could you did this to me?" Mom finally speaks! After everything she's done to show how much he matters to her, he still wants to leave and be forgotten, which KILLS her inside. He truly hurt her in the worst way by thinking that is what she wants. Hate me today Hate me tomorrow Hate me for all the things I didn't do for you Hate me and wait, yeah wait for it to swallow Hate me so you can finally see What's good for you, for you, for you, for you... But it doesn't change anything. He's made up his mind that his is the course of action that benefits everyone around him. This is a song of hopelessness that speaks to me in so many ways. I've had problems with alcohol that I am now on my fifth attempt at sobriety. In my 29 years, I have been drinking 12 of them. I have told my family the same thing the front man is saying. I don't see him breaking up with a woman, but with THE woman: His mother. Something I painfully did earlier this year when I moved, changed my number and never told anyone. I felt and still feel it was for the best, even if his put a huge hole in my life, it forced everyone else to get on with theirs. I would love to see Blue October do a follow up to this song. |

| Amy Winehouse – Back To Black Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song is woefully editted. It isn't "It's not enough your love goes and my love grows." It goes "It's not enough you love blow and I love puff." Which leads me to believe her man is probably relapsing back to drug addiction, since blow is cocaine and puff is British slang for pot. Cocaine is also known as "she" and "her," so I am assuming the dude's going back to is addiction and leaving Amy behind. "You only said goodbye with words, I cried a thousand times" means, to me, that there is still hope because words can change. He left no time to regret/Kept his dick wet/With his same old safe bet/Me and my head high/And my tears dry/Get on without my guy/You went back to what you knew/So far removed from all that we went through And I tread a troubled track/My odds are stacked I'll go back to black We only said good-bye with words/I died a hundred times/You go back to her/And I go back to..... I go back to us I love you much/It's not enough/You love blow and I love puff/And life is like a pipe/And I'm a tiny penny rolling up the walls inside We only said goodbye with words/I died a hundred times/You go back to her/And I go back to We only said good-bye with words/I died a hundred times/You go back to her/And I go back to Black, black, black, black, black, black, black, I go back to/I go back to We only said good-bye with words/I died a hundred times/You go back to her/And I go back to We only said good-bye with words/I died a hundred times/You go back to her/And I go back to black |

| Seether – Remedy Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This seems to be an interaction between an addict and his drug of choice (probably heroin). Let's disect. -- "Throw your dollar bills and leave your thrills all here with me" The drug is saying to buy it. The addict does and throws all attempt at happiness down the drain to get loaded. -- "Speak but don't pretend I won't defend you anymore you see" The drug has taken over the addict's body and isn't working to shield the pain the addict is avoiding. -- "It aches in every bone," Heroin shuts down the brain's ability to feel pain. Take it away and the pain is unbelievable. -- "I'll die alone, but not for you" The addict is telling the drug he knows he's doomed, but he's doing it to himself, not for the drug. -- "My eyes don't need to see that ugly thing, I know it's me you fear" The addict has run away from his pain. As a result, he fears himself. -- "If you want me hold me back" The drug is telling the addict to draw the drug into the needle. -- "Frail, the skin is dry and pale, the pain will never fail" This is an hardcore addict's life, body and well-being. Look at Layne Staley before he died and what he said in Adriana Rubio's book. -- "And so we go back to the remedy" To deal with the life the addict has, he uses the drug as a remedy. -- "Clip the wings that get you high, just leave them where they lie" The addict's knows that the drug is doing no good for him, so he's trying to convince himself to stop. --"And tell yourself, 'You'll be the death of me'" The drug is too powerful -- "I don't need a friend, I need to mend so far away" Heroin addicts tend to live in isolation, consumed by the drugs that overtake them. -- "So come sit by the fire and play a while, but you can't stay too long" The cooking fire. His only friend in the heroin but it won't be heroin for long. -- "It aches in every bone, I'll die alone, but not for pleasure" Dying of a heroin addiction is not a pleasurable experience. The effects of long term, hardcore use take away from the supposed good effects. -- "I see my heart explode, it's been eroded by the weather here" This is the addict's desperation. Weather is usually a metaphor for emotions. -- "Hold your eyes closed, take me in Hold your eyes closed, take me in" The addict gives into the addiction and finally mainlines the heroin into the bloodstream. I really see this as a drug song. Not as direct as Alice in Chains' work, but good none the less. |

Because no one will care! | |

Game of life, where the losers lose their life, in a figurative sense. Using a roulette wheel and a time for giving (Christmas) to show the plight of the poor. This song details a down on his luck man near Hoover Dam who went west looking for his life and failed. At the point in the song, he is standing with a sign in his hand hitchhiking back to his home in Milwaukee. This song brings hitchhiking from the POV of the hitchhiker. It details the hopelessness felt has everything passes you by and you're stuck standing still, hopes and dreams deferred and the only thing you feel is the icy chill of failure and neglect. |
