Supertramp – Hide In Your Shell Lyrics 19 years ago
Don't believe it is about true love- but compassion. Here is a guy or girl who has been severely wounded and therefore Hides in their shell. They go through amazing efforts to conceal their pain from the world- but feel it just the same. In the very act of concealing, they prevent others from ever warming to them. The fact is- they don't love themselves- and therefore no one else is permitted to love them. And then they blame others for not loving them. I think this feels too familiar. I have loved this song for about 25 years. I never realized it was written to me. And now I am about to cry.

Peter Gabriel – In Your Eyes Lyrics 19 years ago
These added lyrics help me enjoy the song more. (On Secret World Live)

Accepting all I've done and said
I want to stand and stare again
Til there's nothing left out, oh
It remains there in your eyes
Whatever comes and goes
I will hear your silent call
I will touch this tender wall
Til I know I'm home again

I believe it is about both mortal and immortal love - of a woman & of God. No point in separating the two, right? Like most good poets, Gabriel fires on all cylinders and gives us many layers simultaneously.

Peter Gabriel – Lay Your Hands On Me Lyrics 19 years ago
Here are men and women languishing in the fragmented & false "perfectionism" of suburbia. They lack the connection and contact they need so desperately; and they seek ministry of others- often only found in dark places underground. See last comment on Secret World. Dead on. They are willing to take dark risks to find that contact. They know there are no accidents in their choices. And they are willing. Like so many! And once they find each other- they certainly do know each other well.
