Mellowdrone – It All Makes Sense Now Lyrics 15 years ago
The saddest thing is that I'm the only one to comment on this musical masterpiece!

I compare this song to something Radiohead would create with the help of a band like Mogwai. There's such a melancholy sadness in the song that allows your mind to seamlessly float between the Bitter and the Sweet. It slowly builds until it finally soars into an epic climax of sound taking your soul and mind through a space of emotional release until it fades into a void of haunting emotion. The music and lyrics flow together so well that this picture is so clearly seen and felt every time you listen to it.

Obviously this song is about giving up and failing. As if something continues to become bottled up inside. With lyrics like "Today I learned my lesson, I'll never step out of line. I'll close my eyes and whisper, and everything will be just fine." suggests that no more will they attempt to live or have any sense of self. As life has brought them to their knees and they will quit fighting in hopes that it will have enough pity to leave them be.

Right when they think they have almost fixed everything, as they bottle up everything as best they can, everyone gives up on them and leaves. Whether this is a relationship or something else is unclear but the feeling is still the same. After the lyrics end the music takes care of the rest as you can almost feel that emotional breakdown when the climax kicks in. They embody the numb feeling after the breakdown slowly fades out and you are left to your thoughts to reflect. Such a sad song but its so true to the emotions it portrays...

Couldn't help but ramble, this song is so PERFECTLY done that it astounds me with every repeated listen...

Blitzen Trapper – Black River Killer Lyrics 16 years ago
At the beginning of the song the narrator starts off with talk sbout a random death of a girl and goes on to say that they booked him on a whim; i think instead of him being wrongfully sentenced i think it ties into the dead girl being his lover and all he could think about was how he loved her but he couldn't help but kill her. (Possibly his lover was his first murder)So when they let him go because of the lack of evidence all he did was continue on with his wicked ways no matter how many times he says he is going to change. As he goes in and out of prison for the rest of his life.

*All of this supports the Frog and The Scorpion story that walkinjingle was talking about.*

Gorillaz – Hong Kong Lyrics 16 years ago
THESE ARE THE ACTUAL LYRICS!!! YOU SCREWED UP THERE PADRE!!

Lord, hear me now
Junk boats and English boys
Crashing out into the mouths
Electric fences and guns
You swallow me
I'm a pill on your tongue
Here on the nineteenth floor
The neon lights make me numb

And late in a star's life
It begins to explode
And all the people in a dream
Wait for the machine
to Pick the shit up leave it clean

Kid hang over here-
What you learning in school?
Is the rise of an eastern sun
Gonna be good for everyone?

The radio station disappears
Music turned into thin air
The DJ was the last to leave
She had well conditioned hair
Was beautiful, but nothing really was there

I believe this song to be about how depressingly beautiful Hong Kong is. It's not about some battle or anything but simply about how gorgeous the city is yet so depressing b/c it seems as if Hong Kong is slowly dying. As if it's a farewell song to Hong Kong.

The first stanza suggests that the main character of the story (Damon I guess) kicks off with his plea to god as he see's such beauty being laid to waste slowly from all the tourists and trash that fills the once respectful and powerful city. Now it just seems like everyone is fenced in by guns and electric fences. Than referring to himself as a pill on the tongue of Hong Kong being swallowed by the culture and beauty that surrounds him while looking out on Hing Kong from the nineteenth floor of a hotel. He is so overwhelmed by the culture that he feels numb.

He then resumes in singing about how Hong Kong is like a star on the verge of exploding (Burning out) and everyone can see the destruction of Hong Kong coming so they are just waiting on the downfall of Hong Kong for it to finish exploding and some machine (person or force) to come and sweep it all away as if it never happened, as if it was all a nostalgic dream upon waking. The people being depressed as they know that they have to accept the truth; that their beloved icon of happiness, hope and respect is dying and will some day soon, be gone.

He then begins a conversation with a child near by and tries to gently let him know after some small talk about school that Hong Kong is dying and that it will soon be gone. (Kind of how a father would let his son/daughter know about someone/something that is dying) He asks the child if he thinks Hong Kong will be good enough to still remain or will it be gone forever soon, hinting at the negative being the most reasonable answer.

He then begins to talk about the radio station and the music in Hong Kong as a way of describing the spirit or soul of Hong Kong. Talks about how everything else is gone except for the last thing that breathes life into Hong Kong, the spirit being the last to leave and the most important. That it's not just leaving either...that it's dead. A ghost. Something that you think is there but nothing is really there. The woman representing the last bit of life and beauty that Hong Kong still reatains.

...simply beautiful...yet tragic at the same time... The death of something truly beautiful is what Damon is trying to tell us about...what a genius of words...

Wilco – Hell Is Chrome Lyrics 16 years ago
I find this song to mean that despite what everyone in the world tells you, the devil is a god in his own light. That those who aren't "accepted" by society and are shunned and told to look, act and live like they do or you will go to hell should do just that and not fight the truth of them being different. That you shouldn't try to be something that you aren't just to be "accepted" by people who don't even love or like you for the way you truly are.

In this scenario the main character is approached by the devil who looks not only clean cut but is also generous and welcoming and is asked to follow him to hell. The main character follows knowing that he has nothing to lose and everything to gain. So in doing so the devil takes him to hell but it's a beautiful place where people understand, help and accept him. As if to see the devil as, not necessarily evil, but, dark (as an opposite of God and heaven rather than good vs. evil)

It's a bittersweet feeling. Knowing that the world hates those who surround you and where you are but at least it is a place that you can call home and feel comfortable. How eerie the feeling is that you should feel "at home" in hell.

Which leads me to my next idea of what this song could be about...

That sometimes the best things come out of the worst situations. The journey through hell was a growing experience and that it helped him in so many ways. That even though it was "evil", it helped you in ways that "good" could never do for you. It's analyzing the idea of sin and how it can help you to become a better person. To make the idea clearer Wilco used the ultimate form of sin...the devil.

That's the best i can come up with b/c i don't see it at all making the devil out to be evil in any way towards the main character. If he was to be chrome and be a representation of temptation to get you to do something sinful just to bring about your downfall and such (b/c he's the devil and is "supposed" to do that kind of stuff) than why didn't he? B/c Hell turned out to be a wonderful place where people helped and understood the main character. It just doesn't fit in.

That's my take on the song.

Nick Drake – Things Behind the Sun Lyrics 17 years ago
This song, to me, is about life in general. Nick sings about how people who are percieved and portrayed as heros and idols are, at a closer look, terrible, corrupt and tortured people. The truth in everything is exposed within such things as idols, heros, religions, saviors, etc. A realization that they are just as tortured as all the people who try to escape their little tragedies by looking up to those who give them hope are. The hypocrisies, contradictions and lies in the world. You see the truth and then watch as peoples idols (aka hopes for a better life) is exposed for what they are truly like and/or die so society clings to the next best thing. That you want to help and save the world but no one listens or they shun you. You become so fed up with trying to save everyone and only getting criticized and hated for your efforts. You decide to just pray and hope that they will be okay and maybe one day gain your knowledge while you keep your truth to yourself. Eventually it puts you at a depressed state while you watchthe world die and lose themselves. You then begin to lose and doubt yourself and the truth but then realize that you ARE right and see the world that is so grounded (has lost their dreams and hate their lives) that they are so close minded making them lost and confused. So you gain happiness in knowing how creaative, beautiful, strong and intelligent you actually are no matter what the world says. You try to help them and learn to take their resentment towards you and just speak the truth wearing your heart on your sleave spreading your knowledge into the world. Telling them all about what the truth is whether they like it or not and maybe one day they will realize you are right.

Nick singing things like "please beware of them that stare, who will only smile to see you while your time away.", Means that people will only be nice and friendly to get what they want out of you such as being with them in sharing their beliefs/hopes and shun you if you are not and upon seeing what they have done and who they are you are not with them. The rest of what i said above can be connected to the song if you keep this theory in mind while listening/reading the lyrics to it.

Enjoy.

Beck – Missing Lyrics 17 years ago
Catcher In The Rye???
Are you SERIOUS RIGHT NOW!!!!???

Wow, no offense dude but you are WAY OFF! lol. I can kinda, sorta, not really see where you are coming from with Holden obviously beeing depressed while he lies to himself but that's just a VERY small piece of this song. (It is stupid book anyways, read The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls and then you can meet a REAL person with some REAL PROBLEMS. Instead of feeling sorry for herself, like Holden does CONSTANTLY.) -Besides that small rant.

It's about a man who was completely used as well as heart-broken by a heart breaker. It obviously takes place in an Arizona, New Mexico type setting. This woman has no remorse for what she did and is perfectly fine while this man is broken and he doesn't see why b/c he HATES her SO much. So he is doing whatever he can to find her so he can get over her and move on with his life. The hole in the roof can refer to his broken heart and how he can't let anyone into his "home" (heart) b/c he's not complete and he has realized that he can't move on until he confronts her and retrieves what he has lost (Love). So over this journey to find her, he is still being attacked by the void left over from what she has taken from him. The sun is hot, rocks in his shoes among other set backs and he can only think about her and how she has taken the beauty out of the earth and he perceives her as an inhuman, heartless, evil, manipulating creature of hate. (He has placed hate where love used to be and now he hates everything)

So there. That's basically the entire song. Depression is the only thing that bring this protagonist and that rich, ungrateful, punk Holden together.

-Sorry everybody, but i SEVERELY hated that book.

In conclusion, this is one of the greatest songs i have ever heard. Not lying. Beck is a musical and lyrical genius. I just wish i could find the Guitar Tabs for this song. Anyways, this is my all-time favorite Beck song. Guero is an awesome song as well as a GREAT CD.

Seriously???
No one has posted any comment on this song yet??
Shocking.

A simple song about a man who isn't a good person and despite how many people who have tried to get him not to be he never changed. So he gets down to what i am guessing is death from old age (referring to when he was young)and he realizes that he needs to fix everything he has done wrong in his life and is begging god/death to let him live a little bit longer to fix the things/people he has wronged.

Absolutely one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE songs. The New Frontiers are AMAZING!!!!!

Ben Harper – Another Lonely Day Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about the different sides of emotions you go through after/during a breakup. "Its either love or hate i cant find in between." And the talk of witches and queens (Shes the greatest person in the world, then the worst.) So to help him get through it he just says it wouldnt work out anyway as if to get rid of any hope and to try and move on. And he just wastes away in another lonely day trying to get a little better with each passing day.

Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek Lyrics 18 years ago
This song can relate to my situation very well. To me its about a break-up. DUH! The person being left finally gets hit with the fact that its over right when the other is leaving. Its hitting them hard and they go over everything they had together and pleading with he/she to stay using old memories and the yearning for that love agian. (leaving reffering to the relationship and the home they lived in together) He/she notices that their history together is coming to a conclusion and theres nothing he/she can do about it. The other person is leaving and will never come back and doesn't really care how the other feels and the reason for the split is that its just time to move on and he/she is doing it for the both of them. So the one being left is trying to get over it and seperate themselves from the relationship to try and feel better. Hiding the old relationship in the back of their mind/heart and trying to get over it and then seeking strength to move on and knowing no matter how hard they plead its still over for good.

Tool – Sober Lyrics 19 years ago
Ok to me this song is about drinking / Drugs. But this entry is all based around my perception of the song. If you watch the music video it helps alot. And to me the character is addicted to what ever is in the box. Even though he's trying to break the addiction he feels empty and useless without it. So when he opens the box he feels whole and happy though it's making him feel worse when he's sober so he just wishes to not be sober without the consequences of reliving his horrible past that haunts him and he still lives in without finding a way to move on. And his way out is through the addiction and also prays for god to help him to move on.
Reminds me of The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe.
