Spitfire was the British plane that helped win the war, to us Brits it's a symbol of defiance and fighting against the odds.
To say if I were in world war 2 they'd call me spitfire is like saying "if I were a golfer i'd be tiger woods" - it's about being top of your game |

It's quite funny to hear people say how beautiful this song is considering it's about the stalker who sent her a letter bomb then shot himself. |

this song owns.
I believe it was written just after the infamous name change. His record label said he could use his own name, so first song on his next album? My name is Prince! Sock it to em daddy. |

the meaning of this song has been established already, by Erasercuts... although I agree that through this tale the deeper themes of zeroglitter are explored. Contrary to what many in the media suggest I do not think this song shows S& the B to be racist, the narration is self depricating |

I think severance's interpretation is way too literal. This song seems to be pretty clearly about the depression denial and terror of staring down the barrell of a life without a former lover, and resolving to find the strength to carry on, though he does tie in other sentiments too |

I think the train in this song signifies an escape from the pain of his heartbreak that is not forthcoming - it could be interpretted as suicide, literally travel, a new lover or even just a sense of closure. |

Maybe it was just the way it was juxtaposed with images of neo-nazi's marching in 24 hour party people (where I first heard it), but I always took the chorus as meaning to turn a blind eye to all the bad stuff in the world;
all this terrible stuff is going on, but instead of addressing it he is just escaping from it, hiding in a shallow, plastic, commercial world divorced from reality - dance to the radio. |

Yea, it's about Smith looking in the mirror, and realisng he's been hammering the drugs a bit too hard - hence his eyes are bloodshot.
I think on a deeper level its a reflection on his lifestyle, and the dammage he was doing himself at the time.
Its got that ambiguos, perky delivery that makes the dark content of the Cure's lyrics all the more resonant. |

This song is actually about Margerat Thatcher's legacy as prime minister in Britain: it's a comment on the lassaiz faire politics of the 1980s under Margaret Thatcher, and how everyone suddenly had to compete and struggle just to make a living: "I'm in love with the coming race"... "I take all I can get".
Killing joke have always had political undercurrents to their music, and been critical of right wing leaders.
Its one of my favorite songs by Killing Joke, the main guitar riff still sends shivers up my spine |
