Fishbone – Black Flowers Lyrics 13 years ago
OK, I know no one probably cares, but I've figured out what's said at the end, the "imagination heart glasses bit."

"Bet ya bottom dollar that the end will come, judgement passed on every one (repeat)... and I betcha."

Jennifer Paige – Crush Lyrics 14 years ago
Absolutely. That's just how I hear it. She's trying to convince herself she doesn't feel something when actually it's a lot. She sees her true feelings reflected in her crush and that make sher uncomfortable. Good song.

That's possibly the stupidest thing I've ever read, and I've been to 4Chan. Or a pretty weak troll. I hope it's the latter.

Chris Cornell – Can't Change Me Lyrics 17 years ago
I've been thinking about this. First up, in parts it sounds a little like a bond theme. I know CC just did the theme for Casino Royale, but I can see after listening to this, whythey might have picked him to do it.

On to the meaning.

I can see two meanings. First going out with a girl who always gets her way, and tries to change the guy she's going out with. But he's strong, and won't give into her pressure. I'm less convinced by this interpretation.

The second, which i favour is that he meets an amazing fabulous girl who can do whatever she wants, and is perfect for him, but even she can't make him happy. He's still miserable, despite this girl's best efforts. He can see everything that's wrong with him, because she can too, and he sees these faults through her. But she can't help him. And that's a sad thing.
Good song.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Breaking the Girl Lyrics 17 years ago
Many good points here, but people need to watch the Funky monks video a little more closely. In this, AK, Flea and a guest who i don't know the name of, are discussing songs on BSSM (he;s the guyt who says "there's a boner coming between the groove". Anyway, this guy says Breaking the girl is a pyschadelic song and about "de-virginising" a girl and AK looks interestingly and says quizically "see that's how he would take it". It's sort of clear that he was presenting a new interpretation to the song that AK hadn't thought of.

As such, we can see that AK did not right it as a song about taking a girl's virginity even though some people might see that message int here - particularly the title. Finally, as has been said before, Ak explains in his book what the song is about, there's no need for me to repeat it. Brilliant song.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Transcending Lyrics 17 years ago
Other intersting River and RHCP connections, well Frusciante really. River played guitar and sang on a couple of songs on Frusciante's solo album - Smile from the streets you hold. He was also one of the people to encourage John to start writing music again after he left the Peppers in 1992.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – My Lovely Man Lyrics 17 years ago
Torrance is right. Not all songs of sorrow have to be quiet ballads. I can think of no better way for them to express their love their friend than in this passionate powerful rock masterpiece. When he comes in with "Just in case you never knew..." it's absolutely heartbreaking. Such powerful emotion. An overlooked song in many ways, but proof of Frusciante's gift. Oh and slim was one of Hillel's nicknames ("Take it hickleberry Slim bob take it")

John Frusciante – The Real Lyrics 17 years ago
"It's no good saying you'll always be mine. These jokes life's playing they make me so tired"

"This constant longing for what's gone"

Frusciante can't be touched. This is such a beautiful song, i think it's about regret and confusion and just the strain of getting through life. But he sees a purpose to it. He may not know the real from what e thought he saw, but he's "moving towards a point in time" and "i'll get where i'm going in the next life."

God bless John Frusciante.

Nirvana – School Lyrics 17 years ago
I hear this song in my head sometimes when life kicks me in the balls. Life's a bitch and then you die. No recess. That's what the song's about. School was a constant struggle against shit you can't control and even when you're out, nothing changes.

Audioslave – Shadow On The Sun Lyrics 17 years ago
It's about a relationship. He meet a girl and they fall inlove, he thinks he can make her happy "lay your burden down" The depth o their relationship is indicatd by the referecnes to telepathy.

Buit it goes wrong and he fallls in to depression "nothing but a hole to live without a soul".

the last verse, he's abroken man, perhaps he has become what the girl was before he met her. i don't know what the flame is but it's clear that he's an empty shell after the breakup, but something occassionaly reminds him of the man he used to be "memoery of the one who lived inside my skin."

Great song.

Robbie Williams – Rudebox Lyrics 17 years ago
Terrible song. Rotten lyrics.

He bites the BEastie Boys with the lyrics "
I’ll ride with you if you can get me to the border
Cause the sheriff’s after me for what I did to his daughter
I did it like this (he did it like that)"

It's from their first album - license to ill" the song is called Paul Revere.

Once more - Terrible song. Rotten lyrics.

The Beach Boys – God Only Knows Lyrics 17 years ago
Lot's of talk about the wonder years, not much about the song. So, here we go. It's a plain and simple love song - the title says it all. But the reason it's so good is the first line of each verse. How many love songs do you know that start with a sentiment - "I may not always love you"? This is to throw you off course, because he later reveals that actually he'll love her forever "as long as there are stars above you, you never need to doubt it. it's a little lovers joke.

Same in the second verse. So many songs say how you can't go on without the other person, but Wilson sings "life would still go on". But again, it's a ruse. He says life would go on, but that it would not be worth living. Again, he flips it round. That's why this is one of the best love songs ever. Plus, let's not forget that the music itself is unfathomably touching.

Roots Manuva – Witness (1 Hope) Lyrics 17 years ago
Brilliant song. Any club in the UK, any night, this song gets the crowd moving. The video is one fo the funniest i've ever seen too. Hell of a base line, rodney's flow really well but in a recognisably british way, not just the words - "down ten pints of bitter" but the cadence and the style. Great tune.

Stone Temple Pilots – Creep Lyrics 18 years ago
When I listen to this, I think it's about growing up and getting past adolescence. When you're a teenager, you're in a state of heightened emotion, you feel so passionately about things, but as you get older, in to your twenties, life grinds you down, and somehow, the music, films, books, girls, etc that made you feel so strongly when you were fifteen, don't have quite the same effect. You're half the man you used to be. The disillusionment and indifference that comes with age. Brilliant song. It's one of the most enjoyable to play on the guitar, because the chorus is such a change and so unexpected. Love it.

Fishbone – Black Flowers Lyrics 18 years ago
Why no comments on this amazing record? Possibly my favourite song of all time, I've read that it's about the band getting down about racism in the music industry. They are the black flowers and because they don't play traditional "black music" whatever that means they have been hindered by executives, companies and radio stations who don't know where to place them. However, i think it's actually a much deeper song. For me it's actually about how the world in general just breaks you down, particularly sensitive or artistic people. You can get so wrapped up in beautiful art and music but the reality of everyday existence drags all that out of you "cursed for their will to dream, raped by mankind again". There you have it. The final verse - "no i won't give in to hatred..." might out of context seem a little cheesy or clichéd, but in this song, I find it tremendously uplifting. A triumphant note of defiant hope.
I love this song.

One last thing - when i listen to this song, a scene plays out in my head really clearly -something that has never happened with any other song - I won't say what it is, but I wonder if anyone else has a visual association with this music.

John Frusciante – Anne Lyrics 18 years ago
Beautiful song. I think it's about Frusciante taking his work seriously, he feels that he has a responsibility to make music. he has spoken many times about being guided by spirits. i think the careless angels keep him on track when he wants to wander off. "pay us the cost and we'll be gone" - the cost is the music he produces. I could well be wrong though.
