Well no one's got it exactly right. It is about a suicide, but it's a dialogue between the victim and God. Strong Christian overtones in this one. |

Agreed. It's very sad that there aren't more comments and most people haven't even heard of Canned Heat nowadays. These guys were awesome. |

The song was recorded in a closet, which is why it doesn't sound too good. Also, John wrote the song as a parody of British blues, but as one can see from the posts here most people take it seriously. Still, it's better than anything Blind Willie Mctell ever did. :) |

Dude, Return of the Living Dead kicked ass, its sequels sucked, but the first was good. Not to mention 2004 Dawn of the Dead had nothing to do with Romero or his movie, it just had the same name. Oh and there's Land of the Dead to add to that list now too. Good song by the way. =p Gotta love The Misfits. (with Danzig) |

John wrote the song himself, he and Tommy Smothers played guitar, and besides John I think the people singing were a bunch of people who were there, including Yoko. |

He sure was. The quality of this song sucks, but it's a good song. Very honest and original. |

RealMusicIsDead, I'm not saying Kurt didn't kill himself, but Courtney Love was the only person who claimed the overdose incident was a suicide attempt, so that doesn't really prove anything.
As for the song, Jesus?
Awesome song, haven't been able to find Leadbelly's version though. |

"This is a song about innocence lost," is what it sounds like he's saying at the start. |

Great song. At about 2:58 into the song you hear John Lennon yell "Fucking 'ell!" after he apparently played the wrong chord. Kind of interesting.
And anyone who says it's about heroin is wrong. Sorry. |
