| Phil Collins – In The Air Tonight Lyrics

All this stuff about drowning and such.. It's all been a pack of lies!!!!
About 3:13 into the song, I have to do a little air-drum solo. Every time I hear it, I have to. Oh Lord. Oh Lord. |

| Seether – Walk Away From The Sun Lyrics

I agree w/ black rose.. It all sounds like the trials one goes through when going through a drug treatment program. The first half of the song seems to deal with the withdrawal phase and the latter half is a reflection of the past and the struggle to maintain sobriety.
'Theres so much left to defend, but I am no fun'
This line strikes me as him saying he could go back to drugs and make excuses about it, but instead he's just going to take the sober road.. In the eyes of other users he's not being 'fun'. |

Sounds like its about a woman, or women, who seek to beautify themselves aesthetically and not let 'nature run its course'. It's a telltale sign of insecurity. The chorus serves as an ode to those who act like themselves and not as something they're not. |

Best song on the new CD.. It's all about an ostentatious woman and the false judgments she likes to place upon those she views as inferior. |

The song sounds too much like Fuel's "Hemorrhage (In my Hands)".. Strange, Chris turned down an offer to join the band only to make his first single sound strikingly similar to one of Fuel's biggest hits. WTG loser. |

I think the Bush/Gideon comparison is there because Gideon was supposedly ordered by God to go to war.

I just think he could have done better than a bottle of Milwaukee's Best.... Go buy some Blue Moon or Guinness.. something w/ real alcohol content, not piss-water.. Beast won't take you home, it'll take you to the bathroom 30 times in one night, because you had to drink an entire case just to catch a faint buzz..

definitely a standout track on the CD.. I don't have lyrics on hand, but i'm almost certain he's saying "like GOD's FIRE", not "gunfire".. I think the song is about alcohol addiction (something chino knows all too well) and it's effect on relationships.. |

I honestly feel that this album has some of the deftones best songs to date, but this particular tune is utter crap.. i like their ambient tunes, but ffs, this shit gets annoying after the first 45 secs.. the intermittent narratives are complete drivel. They should have barred AnnieHardlyCanSing from the studio, and used their talent to create a much better song, which they are most certainly capable of doing..
The ending isn't shocking or offensive. It's just stupid. |

| My Morning Jacket – Gideon Lyrics

|
The bulk of this song has got to be referencing the Iraq war and Dubya.. "animal.. come on..what does this.. remind you of.." Bush is the animal, and this war has been frequently compared to Vietnam. "most of us believe that this is wrong.." The majority of Americans, and better yet, the majority of all countries around the globe, feel this war was totally unnecessary and wrong. "listen.. listen.." Bush & Co. are absolutely stubborn and in denial when it comes to criticism regarding their choices. "religion should appeal to the hearts of the young.." This war was religiously charged, particularly by the likes of Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and many other key figures in the religious right.. Their incessant ramblings of a nearing Armageddon, and suggesting this war is a precursor, most certainly will discourage young people from embracing religion. |

they did a nice acoustic version of this song for the local radio station the day of one of their shows.. it was much more sad without the electric guitar and growling vocals. The album version is still great though.
i think the song is about not being able to get ahead in life, namely because of a broken relationship. |

No clue what it means either, but the beats and eerie vocals are top notch. I love the freaky "You think you know" vocals especially. I picture a very old grandmother wagging her finger at her grandchildren every time I hear that part. |

| Taylor Hicks – Do I Make You Proud Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
Another talented musician tainted by the long arm of Simon Cowell. He sang some wonderful soul numbers during the show, and now he is FORCED to sing trash.
Oh well, Taylor probably knew it was going to be like this, so I can't take too much pity on the guy. Just look at ol' Bo Bice, he went from singing a brilliant rendition of the Allman Brother's "Whipping Post" during the show, to singing some boring pop song on his debut album that Simon probably gleefully masturbates to. I just hope Taylor isn't brainwashed too much over the next couple of years, and manages to hang on to his roots, so that he can release an album that will take full advantage of his soulful pipes and instrumental talent.
It would be pretty sweet if ALL the artists signed to deals post-idol could make music that reflects the music that they were influenced by (i.e. Underwood, who has scored big with her country tunes). Their musical preferences is obviously one reason they were voted for, so why not follow a similar formula? Why put their music through a bubblegum pop grinder, killing all hints of what qualities the singer possessed on the show? Why do I have to let a DJ of a radio station clarify that what I just heard was the same person who won the American Idol competition?
I understand that their is going to be millions made on the man, just like previous winners and runners-up, but don't you think there's more bank to be made if the singers continued to sing songs in the vein of those they previously performed on the show?
I dunno, just a thought (or 5). At any rate, congrats to Taylor, who was very deserving of the win. |

It's funny... I read page 1 of these 1100+ comments, and read nothing but lavish reviews of this supposedly brilliant little tune.. I skip to the end, expecting to see opposite reviews, and sure enough... lol.
If you are 10, this is probably a great song to you. However, if you've reached post-adolescence, then the first 4 lines of this shit they call a 'song', should make you want to vomit profusely.
As for this dumb Canadian asshat being some sort of musical 'icon' for future generations, hell, even the CURRENT generation, then you are huffing WAAAY too much gas. This is throw-away pop shit that I haven't heard on the radio in a coon's age, and for that I am thoroughly thankful.
And for those who think she exudes the slightest hint of 'punk', you need a thick switch to your backside, and a crash course on what qualities make up a punk artist/band. Having some producer with dollar signs in his eyes, controlling every aspect of her music, totally exempts this clueless bitch from punk music. People like her and her equally-as-moronic supporters, pre-teens who tote around skateboards and have a Black Flag patch on their backpacks, are nothing but poseurs making feeble attempts to revolutionize a genre of music that is simply unchangeable. You can call it punk all day long, but it isn't. It isn't even remotely close. |

| Son Volt – Loose String Lyrics

I think this song is about shedding responsibilities, and straying from the straight and narrow. Now I can't figure out whether or not he's encouraging or discouraging that notion (i.e., "Too may rules, it'll bleed you dry" -- "Too much living is no way to day"). Perhaps he is suggesting finding the perfect balance between the two.
At any rate, this is my favorite song on "Trace". I love how the tempo and Farrar's vocals soften up on the chorus, diverting from the toe-tapping verses and even more upbeat pre-chorus. It's a brilliantly built song. |

i agree danooo, Jay Farrar is a very good songwriter, and his songs are very moving and meaningful. It's strange that so few people have commented on any of these songs.
This is the perfect road trip song. Just hearing it has me visualizing truckers and grannies driving up and down the interstate, flat farmland, and cows chilling in pastures. It makes me think of all aspects of a southern road trip, in a very happy way. |

| Hurt – Rapture Lyrics

I got some info on these guys before seeing them a couple of months ago, and aparrently, the lead singer had quite a closeted childhood. His parents were extremely religous and rock music was strictly prohibited. I think this song goes back to that time. His mother is the girl mentioned in the song, and he is the baby. The death of the baby (Wince, the singer) marks the event of him defying his family's strict doctrine and moving on into his own way of thinking (being "reborn"). Obviously he's pissed at his family, but parts of the song hints that he still loves them, and maybe there is still a part of him that thinks he'll burn in hell for what he's doing now. |

This song is about a sweet-assed ride from the 60's or 70's, participating in a race. Just about every Fu song has some correlation with old muscle cars.. this is my favorite on "The Action is Go". The guitars are nice and fuzzy, a la Black Sabbath. It's a very good CD for road trips, especially if you've got a fat sack of that sticky shit. |

This is Staind's official sellout song. With the unexpected popularity of the live version of "Outside", Staind felt it necessary to start making pussified power ballads. There last 3 CD's have been loaded with these sappy, shitty songs, w/ only a faint shimmer of their original sound on the harder songs. Dysfunction is and always will be their best album, and the only one worthy of repeated listenings. |

A huge hit for Eric Clapton, this song was originally penned, recorded, and performed by JJ Cale. The tempo is slowed down in comparison to Clapton's version. The folky sound is what makes this song so great. I wish Cale's version got more recognition and more airplay. |

| Taproot – Lost In The Woods Lyrics

This song was originally written by Billy Corgan.. Corgan handed the song off to Taproot (He co-wrote two other songs on BSR, "Violent Seas", and "Promise"). Apparently the original was performed by Corgan a few times live, and there's an mp3 of it you can d/l on either an SP or Taproot forum.. Corgan's version is a bit different melodicaly and lyrically, but there's many similarities as well. This is the best song on BSR, and Violent Seas isn't far behind.. Taproot needs to continue this collaboration w/ Corgan imo. |
