Beautiful song but it's all wrong. That is I think I disagree. I feel J.J. is currently one of the greatest lyricists on the radio but, in reflecting on "If I had Eyes", I wonder if the enriching environment in which J.J. grew up so far removed from the sufferings experienced with basic survival has left him a bit naiive in some matters. Like a child in the youth of our species women are not destined to be dependant on another for their survival. Women will fall and get back up until they can stand on their own. Time does heal. Further, less judging and blaming and more compassion, respect, acceptance and forgiveness will make a difference. Holding on can make us feel strong but often the true strength is in letting go. |

Champagne is for celebrating. This song is about celebrating life. The special people are the ones who change, who find new ways to celebrate life and are considered strange to the majority of people who merely exist. Because most people basically do the same thing day to day telling themselves one day they will change and start living and believe this could possibly happen during a pathetic two weeks vacation every summer. The special people are the ones who don't need to be woken up but rather wake up the dawn and ask it why. Why should I have this day? What am I going to do to celebrate it? Getting High is not necessarily a drug reference but generally living it up. |

Like most Jimmy Buffet songs this is about escaping reality. When life gets tough Parrotheads get going to the islands or just migrate to the nearest tiki bar if they don't have the vacation time. This song with its painfully inane and sadistically sophmoric lyrics is about Jimmy Buffet's inabilty to cope with life's obstacles which would require looking within himself and facing his fears. Rather than grow and learn to adapt to ones environment, Buffet suggests it is better to change the environment. For those of us who don't have our own jet and millions of dollars of spending cash, the bottle of rum will have to do. |

This is a pro-life song. We search for reasons to explain everything in life. It is a very difficult thing to understand why a person should go through life with what we feel is such a curse. Seeing a handicapped person is uncomfortable for most of us. It reminds us of our own burdens and our lack of control over our world. This song suggests that when science fails us we can accept the wonders of life through faith and in God we can even believe that such a helpless being can actually have a wonderful life. |
